2014-2015 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sent in my secondary on 9/25 (after nearly 2 months of waiting for it) and after checking the portal nonstop Friday and today, my status has changed to complete and will be reviewed. Hoping for a quick turnaround!
+2

Primary submitted: 7/28
Secondary received (and submitted): 9/15
Noticed "hold until spring": 9/29

🙁

Official wording of the hold status via site (I didn't get this as an email):
" Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed by a member of our Admissions Committee. While we have decided not to invite you for an interview at this time, we would like to re-evaluate your application again in the spring should interview spots remain. We have many completed applications to review and wish to hold on a final decision on your application until later in the cycle. Again, thank you for your interest in Drexel College of Medicine. "
Stats? IS or OOS?

Just got secondary today. Thought this was a silent rejection. Primary verified late July.

not to beat a dead horse, but... has anyone completed ~8/20 had ANY status change besides "complete and will be reviewed"????
Complete 8/29 and I have that message. (So I guess they haven't taken a look at our apps yet.)

Me too! Complete around 8/25. I think they're reviewing applications and sending secondaries on a lottery system or something...

So the mystical Drexel secondary does exist! I finally received it today after waiting almost 2 months for it.

At this point, should I still bother applying or am I so late that it's basically pointless?

Got a secondary last week after being verified mid-July, moved on to "will be reviewed" today. Just when I had calmed down and stopped neurotically checking my email/portals this comes and sucks me right back in. Thanks, Drexel.

*update* within seconds of posting this I got a complete email saying "please allow up to three months for an update". Why do you do this to us? Why???

The late lord Drexel. They made me, Lord Stannis Baratheon, First of his name, King of the Andals and the First Men, wait two months before sending me a secondary. For this crime, I shall make them wait two months before I complete their secondary.

Apply. Take what is rightfully yours, however late.

Just got mine today as well! Are they typically very quick at reviewing your app after you submit the secondary?

I think they're quick at marking you complete. I got marked complete within 3 days and then got the email about it today (6 days later).

Received a secondary on 9/2
Submitted the secondary on 9/11
Application "complete" notice on 9/13
Interview offer on 9/18
Interview on 10/9

If there are any current students lurking on here----can you tell me if your interview actually ended at 2:30pm? I'm trying to book Amtrak tickets but I don't want to cut it too close.

Some interviews end early, some interviews end a little later. Some of my student interviews start at 11 and end at around 11:40 so they can catch the shuttle to Center City for a 12:30 interview. I think you can technically leave if you've already done your student interview at that point and you don't need to take the shuttle back to Queen Lane, but make sure to ask in the morning if you get an early time like that. Although there are a few times where you'll end up coming back a bit late and having to interview with a student after going to Center City.

Some people have early faculty interviews at around 11-12, and have their student interviews during lunch at around 12-12:30. I saw someone with a 1:30 faculty interview today. I'd say most students end up finishing by 2, but you might have unexpected delays depending on who you get as your interviewer. There is a Q&A later as well.

I've had a few student interviews that start around 1 so we finish before 2 and I see them leave at 2ish. My own experience two years ago: I had a late interview down in Center City that lasted a little more than an hour. I got back pretty late and I got back to QL at around 3-3:30.

It does say to allow up to 3 months for an update... Lol, I'm pretty much gonna forgot I even applied here by the time a decision is made.

I have been sitting on complete since 8/29--so I think many of us are in this boat. I'm not really understanding how some people don't have secondaries, some folks turn in and get II right away--just a lesson in acceptance!

I had my interview already and was out by 2:00pm, and I think almost everyone else was as well. Hope that helps!

Why are some people getting interviewed/put on hold that were complete on like, 9/13 and yet others who were verified back like, in July not getting status updates? I wish a Drexel ADCOM was a member of this forum lol

How do you know they're not?

Trying to make rhyme or reason out of this process is just going to make you have a psychotic episode. I say that now, dealing with residency applications, so I know what you're going through. We all have to make like boats and go with the flow, whatever stage we're at. Call if you are truly concerned your app is too lost/stalled, but there are lots of other people in your situation and it will unfortunately continue to be this way down the line with post-interview decisions. People who interview the first day are accepted and rejected, people who interview the last day are accepted and rejected, and there will be waitlists throughout the year, and a few people won't hear anything for months for some reason or other. I know it doesn't make you feel any better, but it's what I've observed over the past four interview seasons.

For anyone who has interviewed, is there a place to store your luggage or backpack because I will catching a flight afterward.

This is a stupid question, but I will ask anyways b/c the internet is no place for shame. Just uncovered my secondary from Drexel in my E-mail (got categorized weirdly) from 8/19. Is it worth it to submit it at this point?

Some people still do not have their Drexel secondaries yet. I would still submit it if I were in your situation.

The student tour that starts at 2 pm is pretty much optional, so most people left around 2 pm.
It really depends on your interview time. Those with later interview times left closer to 2:30 pm - 3 pm.
Unfortunately, you won't know the time you will be interviewing until the day of the interview.

Sorry to hear about the hold; keep your head up, you're a great candidate. Thanks for letting me know!

Been waiting forever and just got the supplemental application and filled it out today.

Am I too late as a lower stat applicant?

Still waiting .........

And does anyone's status say "Your file is and complete and will be reviewed. " It's been like this since I've been complete. The typos man .... lol...................................
HAHAHA. Yes. I cannot believe I have never noticed that during the mean times I have looked at it.

Well maybe if you looked nicely 😉

But yeah, I've had this same status for a while now, hopefully we will all get some news soon...

If you submitted your secondary and all your files, it does take quite a bit of time to sift through every single applicant and give interviews to. Drexel had 14000 applicants last year so you can imagine the time it takes for a handful of people to go through each AMCAS file and decide if they want to grant an interview to someone.

All I can say is that you should refresh the portal once a day in the afternoon to see if you've been given an interview. It probably comes in batches, so you'll see someone on SDN write "I got my interview" - and you can check it then too. My friend and I got our interview invites on the same day years ago. Sometimes the mail from Dr. DePace will be a little late but you'll be able to schedule it earilier. But they definitely have not lost your file under the cabinet or had multiple hard drives failed. If it has been like 3 months, maybe you should call and check, but unfortunately a month is not that long of a time to wait because of the sheer volume of applicants we get.

Our school is also in the middle of Discovery Day and a few other big events right now, so the few people that are reviewing applicants for interviews are probably really busy. Ie - Dr. DePace is also course director for Gross Anatomy as well as the Dean of Admissions - he's working really hard! At the same time he is super friendly, always seems to have time to talk and seems to always have delicious brownies. So a lot of faculty have multiple roles and really get involved, unfortunately it does mean that things go a little slower - but they definitely have a better idea of everything that goes on in the school. They really care about the success of our school and students.

It seems like all the interview slots have been full the past few weeks minus or two people who have had to reschedule, so I think they are doing a great job of reviewing a ton of applicants and scheduling interviews. But don't be discouraged - a LOT of the people who interview after December get into Drexel. And to the people who were on hold for interviews - I don't know the chances, but I am pretty sure some people told me they got off "Hold", but I don't want to get your hopes up high because that is probably a very small fraction of students who were put on hold.

Be patient, work on yourself (relax and have a little fun!) and help out the community. Before you know it, you'll be in med school without the "free time". So enjoy it while you can.

Does Drexel send rejections throughout the whole cycle? Or basically puts everyone "On Hold till the Spring" that hasn't been offered an interview?
