To those accepted--I'm interviewing soon and I'd really appreciate any advice! Did you practice interviewing with your school's career center or anything like that?
 
For those accepted: do you mail in the signed paperwork or can we scan it and email it?
 
Question for those who interviewed:
How long did it take to hear back that the interview date and session you chose was still available? I assume they're taking a bit longer due to the holiday season but it's been over a week and I haven't heard back yet. Thanks!
 
And I got a response about the available interview date within the same day if I remember correctly. Maybe they are out of the office, but I would all to verify because interview dates fill up very fast!
 
Does anybody know of any good apartment complexes or townhouses around FSU? Thank you!

When did you mail it? I think administration is out of the office until 01/06.
 
I mailed mine on 12/23, but I haven't heard anything back. If they aren't back in the office until Tuesday, I'm guessing the time that they are away from the office doesn't count in the 2 week period that they want the paperwork.
 
I was complete September 30, and haven't heard anything yet. Is this a silent rejection? I'm trying to stay hopeful!
 
Stay hopeful WishingandWaiting, I was complete 8/21, and got an II on 12/15 🙂

You wouldn't know if you were interviewed for the bridge program. They consider you when they interview you for the regular MD program. In some cases your interviewer may bring the bridge program up into conversation.

I don't really have a price range in mind right now. But I'm mostly looking for a studio or 1BR/1BA apts.

I know they're going through a lot of apps and I heard FSU does take a while with their admissions process, but I'm still anxious and I frantically check my email every hour haha. Four months is a looooooong time to not hear anything, AT ALL.

I applied as in-state because my parents moved from Maryland to Florida (specifically Cantonment, which is about three hours away from Tallahassee) over a year ago and I'm still dependent. I went to UMBC for undergrad where my cGPA was 3.61 and sGPA was 3.53. I also did a one year postbacc at Hopkins where my cGPA was 3.83 and sGPA was 3.76. I got a 29 on my MCAT (PS: 9; VR; 10; BS; 10).

Any info would be much appreciated!

You should definitely email them to express your interest and let them know that they are your top choice. Also mention if you have any updates to add. But regardless of updates, do email them and express you continued interest. It worked for me last year! I think they like when they're applicants' first choice and they take kindly to it.

Hi everyone! I just got my invite today and was wondering if anyone could talk about their experience (e.g. interview structure, questions asked, main focus, any other tips). ?? I would greatly appreciate it.

Well if you are looking for apts that are walking distance, seminole flats is the only one that I can vouch for. It is really nice inside and there are quite a few medical students that live there and love it. It's a bit pricey though. Approx $765 unfurnished and $825 furnished. Stadium 35, 302, and cheiftan greens are directly across the street from the med school but I can't vouch for them although several medical students live there as well. If you find somewhere that you're not sure of, feel free to PM me the name and I'll let you know what I know about it

Unfortunately most of the area around campus is pretty ghetto or else just downtown. I would look in the area east of Monroe and north of Tennessee - 'Midtown' - where a lot of young single people or grad/professional students etc end up living.

I've lived here most of my life but never in apartments so I can't give you great advice about that. There are several decent-seeming apartment complexes on Meridian around Bradford which I would consider. If you can find a roommate and split a small house or duplex in (e.g.) the areas around Leon High School or Lafayette Park that's pretty ideal. I was doing that a few years ago paying $400 a month to split a 1000 sf house with a roommate.

FYI parking is terrible at FSU. Those areas I listed are easy bike distance tho if you're into that.

I don't know tallahassee that well myself to tell you what areas are good or bad unless it's close by campus but as I said if you tell me the name of a complex you're looking into I can ask around and Report back. There are a good amount of places off of Lipona and white drive but they are smaller properties so I'm not sure of their names. I'm looking for a 1bdrm for next semester too so I'll keep you posted . Oh check out villa San Carlo, polos, and maybe legacy suites.

Congrats! You are done already, just have to sit and wait. I have mine at the end of the month. Can you please elaborate on the type of questions you were asked during the interview? Were you asked any ethical/ health-cared related questions? If so, how were they? I'm really stressing about these types of questions because you don't know what to expect. Please your help would be much appreciated.

Oli, yeah I went into the interview kinda dreading any ethical/health-care related questions. I can't speak to what others may have experienced, but neither of my interviewers asked these types of questions. I interviewed with Dr. Van Durme who leads the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health. That one was great because it was very conversational in the sense that he asked me a few questions and then allowed me to ask him questions throughout. My second interview was with Dr. Ellen Berkowitz who is a psychiatrist. Definitely be prepared to answer Why medicine and Why FSU as that was asked in both interviews. Apart from that the interview was open and both interviewers were intimately acquainted with your application, so most other questions asked you to clarify and elaborate on things discussed in your application. This has been my first interview this cycle (I interviewed at USF last year but got waitlisted) but overall I would say that FSU does a very good job at making you feel comfortable so that your true self can shine. I hope this helps to assuage any fears/worries. Best of luck!

For those interviewing:

My interviewers knew every minute detail about my file, even those that had no relevance to medicine, healthcare, science, etc. You have two open-file interviews which are about an hour long each. My interviews were very conversational and the interviews gave their input about the topics discussed (favorite sports teams, working in rural areas, etc). I was asked a question regarding health-care reform, but the interviewer simply asked how I saw it impacting how medicine will be practiced in the future. Both of my interviewers loved discussing my community service projects and experiences with me, so I would recommend having those known.

In summation, know everything about your life, as your interviewer will know it and can question you about anything from it. Good luck!

Congrats on the II !! My interview was in the morning and I'm actually really glad it was in the AM! When we first got there they took us to a conference room. First and second year med students talked to us and then they showed us an informative video about the college! Then ,students took us to our interviews! Both of my interviewers were very nice! It was not intimidating at all! Their questions were mainly focused on my application ( both primary and secondary). I wasn't asked any ethical questions but i have a friend that was asked about ethical stuff! Honestly I really believe that they Just want to get to know you better and make sure you're a good fit for their school! We then had a tour of the school, talked to the dean, and then had lunch!
I can easily say everyone on my interview day was so nice and friendly ! So Just be yourself, don't be nervous and make sure to smile !!!

Took the advice of @hippocampus503 and wrote FSU an email. Been about a week since I emailed FSU and nothing back yet.:dead: Anyone know how long it typically takes to get a response?

Can someone please tell me why some of us haven't heard anything at all? 🙁 Im either at or above their average matriculating stats and I've been complete since september... Is it because I'm a gator?? Kind of freaking out here...
