2014-2015 Mayo Medical School Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received this the other day:

"Mayo Medical School has recently received your application from the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Thank you for choosing Mayo as one of the schools you are interested in attending. We sincerely appreciate your application and your interest in our school.

A non-refundable $120 fee payable in United States currency is required to initiate the review process of your AMCAS application. Electronic payment should be submitted at your earliest convenience."

It seems I made it through the first screen? This second portion just needs a fee, but does anyone know if I will get an opportunity to provide updates about what I will be doing in my time off? (recent graduate)
No everyone pays the fee. And they generally do not accept updates.

I think a couple people earlier on the thread reported being rejected pre-fee request, in fact.
I don't think so; I believe Mayo's process is: Pay Fee --> Mayo Looks at your EC's, if they like what they see they request LOR's, if not you get a pre-LOR rejection.

I was complete on the 10th, and in my complete email there is no mention of the 4-6 weeks. They must have added that to the emails of people who were complete later.
I was complete on the 9th and they had the 4-6 week clause.

It appears that the 4-6 week clause was only in emails sent out on the 9th; hence my earlier speculation that they realized it'd take longer than 4-6 weeks to arrive at interview decisions so they removed it from all subsequent emails.

Maybe Mayo monitors this thread and are going to decide who gets interviews based on our levels of patience :scared:

No, no, people were in fact rejected pre-fee request. Please refer to previous posts.

Congrats everyone! Can everyone please post the day they day they submitted the fee/LOR request/LOR received... etc?

Congrats to the people who got II's. Can you please let us know when you were complete?

That is the initial fee request, before any screening occurs- "required to initiate the review process of your AMCAS"

Mayo does things a little differently, as there is no secondary application. Instead, the first screen is a LOR request which would occur after you pay the fee.

As for providing updates, I'm not exactly sure but whenever I've emailed the admissions office they've been very nice so maybe they'd take updates. Never hurts to call and ask.

Looks like the first batch of IIs FINALLY was released. They interview on Mondays and Fridays.
I creeped upon you a little. Looks like you are having a big II feast going on. Congrats!

What ever you've been doing, you are doing it correctly. 🙂 Congrats!

Last year they sent them about approx once every 7 days. But at this point, we probably shouldn't count on what they did last year.

Cryptic indeed. I smiled.

Thanks for letting us know! And also, I am super siked for you both! Good luck on your interviews, I heard they are really low-stress and enjoyable!

That's my kind of interview! Thanks 🙂

It looks like if you use GO Rochester Direct shuttle services and fly into Minneapolis/Saint Paul airport you can save a few bucks for those looking to be as economic as possible with travel plans.

haha... shortest II email ever...

man i'll prob have to wait till september to hear back

Congratulations! Thank goodness news is starting to come..man the wait was rough. But to be clear...only those who were complete (LOR's received) on the 10th or before are currently receiving II's? I am guessing this will be an all day email roll out so those who haven't received II's yet chillax.

Congrats to everyone who got IIs today - you guys rock!

For the rest of us, it's not over until it's over! Keep in mind that for all the SDN prognostication, the selection process is shrouded in mystery. I trust that when everything shakes out, we'll all end up where we belong and will go on to make great contributions to the world and our future patients.

Now, please excuse me as I have to go cry :arghh:

😉

Really hope I don't have to wait 7 days ( or more) to hear back ....

So more interviews getting sent out tonight at 2 AM? 😉

Just added an additional LoR that was submitted. /fingers crossed! 😉
