2014-2015 New York University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So safe to say no post-interview rejections?

Great... now I've convinced myself that I occupy the very last spot on the waitlist hahah
Not necessarily. It could be that there were a few rejections sent and nobody wanted to post them, or that rejection e-mails will arrive another day. (Only 3 or 4 people said they were accepted today, so it looks like today was "send waitlist notification day.")

Waitlisted today. Very much expected that. Withdrew in favor of a school a little ways up town. 😉

Congratulations to everyone who ends up accepted!👍👍
And good luck to those waiting it out! :luck:

Last year January thirty first: 21 reported wait list, 3 rejections (couple acceptance). A ton of movement on wait list last year with >10 reported acceptances on SDN. If you assume 9 people for every SDN lunatic that is >100 off wait list.

Thanks for going through last year's thread for this detailed analysis, it's pretty helpful.

do people think that applying for the 3-year MD program when waitlisted will give you an edge in getting off the waitlist for regular MD?

EDIT: also, the 3-year MD portal invitation thing is now gone, at least for me (it was there a couple hours ago)

I don't think it will make a difference. You should only do it if you're sure about what specialty you want. My invitation is gone too. Maybe it was some sort of glitch?

My tertiary application tab has been there forever, and it is still there since being waitlisted.

Hey fellow waitlister friends, do you think it's best to mail/email or upload to the applicant portal a letter of interest?

I kind of feel like mailing it.. I fear that it won't get read otherwise.

As a current Manhattanite I was already kind of imagining my life at NYU, as I've really set down roots in the city.... well I won't give up and at least give this waitlist thing a shot.

Definitely upload it. It creates lots more work for them if you mail it. They have to scan it and put it into your digital file. I'd say it's less likely to be read by someone that can actually influence the process if you mail it.

Does anyone know the dates for second look or have they not announced them yet?

Quick question regarding wait lists since some of us are in this position.

What happens if you hear back from a school, lets say NYU, after the April 30th deadline where you've already chosen a different school? How does that work?

You can drop the other acceptance and take the NYU one.
Edit: see also, @gyngyn's quote below

Students may maintain a position on any waitlist until orientation starts at the school where they hold an acceptance.
A poaching school must notify the potential donor school of their intention to offer an acceptance off the waitlist in June. Early in poaching season (April and May) it is customary to give up to two weeks for the applicant to consider their alternative (and financial aid package) and the poacher is not obligated to notify the donor. After May the time for consideration shortens considerably.

Does anyone know how many people they put on the waitlist and/or what the chances of getting off the waitlist have been in recent years?

I don't think they have these listed anywhere, but I would guess 1/4 to 1/3 of the entering class. Basing these numbers off of what I've been told about Mount Sinai, which I think tends to accept a lot of the same types of students. Maybe this is completely off base :/

Does anyone know where you can find the most recent NYU match list?

Ha sorry to break the string of innuendo going on above , but do you guys know if NYU uses a unit/base loan financial aid system? Can't find anything on the site about that.

Of those accepted last week, has anyone received their acceptance packet in the mail yet that the acceptance email mentioned?

Has anyone received the three year webinar email yet?

For those on the WL, did you just upload any letter of interest to the NYU additional documents portal?

When do we typically see movement on the wait list? Im assuming after April 30th?

When people start getting in to higher end schools with non-rolling admissions, they will begin to drop acceptances at schools like NYU

I checked last year's thread and people started getting off the waitlist in the end of February.

So late feb early march makes sense

Well, to be honest there aren't a whole lot that are higher than NYU!

Hey, I am a long time lurker but never posted. Can anyone who interviewed on November 19 send me a private message. There is something i need to ask. If this is against the terms of service, let me know and i will remove this post.

looks like last year there was some initial waitlist movement at the end of february/beginning of March... then a whole lot happened in May. Maybe some of us will get lucky in the coming weeks!

Did anyone get confirmation their FAFSA or need access form was received?
