2014-2015 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone know how Ohio State feels about In the are emails? I'm just asking because I know a few people last year who got a bunch of interview invites right after sending emails like that. I'm interviewing in Ohio elsewhere already and would really like to limit travel costs.

submitted secondary 7/26 and received II 8/8

Did you find out anymore about this? I am in a similar situation..

So I got both an II and an email from Ohio admissions this morning saying that my "in the area" email was perfectly timed. The Interview was scheduled to fit right in the week when I am there. So I would say that they are indeed responsive to those emails.

How do we view whether or not our letters have been received by OSU? I can't figure it out on the portal but maybe I'm just missing something.

Well, my letters never really showed up as received on the portal, but the II came nevertheless. I think you just can't really tell if the letters are received.

Ok thanks! Congrats on the II!!

II a few hours ago! OOS. Never got a status change for complete but submitted my letters early this week, secondary was in a few weeks ago. LizzyM ~73. Really excited about this one!! Seems like an awesome school.

Did anyone else receive an email from OSUCOM Women in Medicine?

The admissions committee has informed me that you have been granted an interview at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. On behalf of Women in Medicine I would like to congratulate you on this great accomplishment!

Women in Medicine is a student organization within the College of Medicine dedicated to addressing issues that arise both personally and professionally. The mission of WIM is to highlight issues that are relevant to both genders that are not typically discussed in other settings. WIM hopes to be a valuable resource for medical students as they plan their careers and personal lives. We hope to offer an educational experience for both men and women, and we strive for cohesiveness between genders.

If you would like for us to arrange to have a representative from WIM to meet with you on the date of your interview during the lunch session, we would be glad to connect with you and give you more information about WIM and the initiatives that OSUCOM and WIM have taken to foster a supportive environment for future female physicians. If you’d like more information about the type of events we put on, please see the attached document. If you have any questions leading up to your interview, or would like to meet with one of the WIM officers, please feel free to contact our admissions coordinator (listed below).

Sounds like a great mentorship program -- but if we meet with a rep during lunch, that means we aren't doing whatever is normally done at lunch (talking to current students? Don't know) ?

I got that email too! I'm not sure about how it will affect our lunch schedule, but when I responded it seemed like an informal meeting. She just said a representative will be present during lunch.

Hmm I emailed the coordinator back and asked her what we would be missing from the regular program, but my guess is that it would just be talking to different students. Will update when she replies 🙂

II this morning! Very excited, this seems like a great school. They seem to have selected the date for me. Is it possible to reschedule if necessary?

Yes, please update! Thanks

Lunch is done as a big group where you just mingle, chances are they will simply have somebody from WiM there and introduce them beforehand so you can talk to them.

Awesome! This sounds perfect!

To those with II: are we supposed to get an email or something to fill out after we confirm our date on the portal?

I haven't gotten anything like that yet. I wonder how that works too.

I did not get a confirmation email initially; they did, however, email me today as a reminder / re-confirmation of interview in Sept.

Do you mind sharing your LizzyM or mcat? Congrats by the way!!

For those of you with recent IIs, can you tell me what were the next available dates for interviews when you scheduled yours? Thanks!

Current M1 here at OSU, looking forward to meeting you guys at one of the interview lunches! Good luck to everyone, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. I was an OOS applicant, so I can address any concerns there if there are any.

Quick question: I have a flight out of Columbus the night of the interview at 6:35 PM. Is that doable without stressing too much?

Columbus airport is very chill and fast. Security lines are short, especially during the week and after the mid-afternoon rush. Be sure you have a mode of transportation to the airport as public transport can be a hassle. OSU may have a shuttle. A cab is about $20-$30 to the OSU area from the airport. You should be fine.

Yeah you should be fine. The airport is close, it's like 15-20 minutes to the airport.

Also, feel free to sign up for ridesharing apps like Lyft while in town. They usually have free rides for new users (particularly Lyft), offering multiple free rides up to $25. That's a free one way ride to the airport.

Bump. It looks like interviews start this week. For those who don't know me, I'm a current M2 - hopefully I can make it to some of the interview lunches and meet some of you! In the meantime, if y'all have any questions, ask away.

Yay! I am so excited to visit OSU! Maybe I will see you at lunch!

I'm an IS is it too late to add OSU? I've applied to schools just wondering? I am verified and all that and have interviews.

Hey so I have been looking through the website and can't find a direct link to the curriculum, grading or other things like that. Have any of you find a good part of their website that describes this?

What particularly would you like to know? I can provide some insight into the curriculum, grading, etc. if there are specific questions you have.

The curriculum is described here, with the FAQ having many answers to typical questions: http://medicine.osu.edu/students/lsi_curriculum/Pages/index.aspx

Congratulations!!! Are you IS/OOS? Mind sharing stats (can go over PM if you'd prefer)?

Thanks! You can check my mdapps for the information I'm willing to share at this point; you can get to it by clicking the link underneath my icon thing.

Anyone else interviewing here tomorrow? Hope to see some of you there!

Any recent II's out there? Any IS applicants get invited or go to interview yet? Thanks!

Anyone have an idea what dates OSU is on for scheduling interviews? I'd like to know if the 4th week of October is open for an ITA email.

I'm considering applying here, but I'm worried I might be a little late. Do you guys know if most of the II's have already been sent out and if OSU does an aggressive rolling admissions?

OSU is pretty consistent in accepting applicants from every interview day, all the way through the season.

As far as interviews, current students can see interviewee hosting requests through the Oct. 13th interview day. Very unofficial approximation of where II's currently sit, but it should provide some idea.

would you mind saying when you were complete?
they send out complete emails? I got status update long time ago says secondary received is that it? Never got an app complete or even sure they received my letters

I was just looking for like a general time of secondary submission/completion...

Hi guys! I'm interviewing on 9/22, and have a hotel booked for the nights of 9/20 and 9/21. Anybody want to bunk up and split the price? It is the varsity Inn south, .8 miles from Meiling Hall. $60-ish dollars a night. I'm a 24yo male, open to sharing rooms with anybody.
Also, anybody going straight to the airport after the interviews on 9/22 want to split fare for lyft?
