Same boat here! Still on Hold. I am scared and super nervous. I am more nervous than I was before half time performing at a blazer game.🤢:sorry:

Do you guys think at 5pm they will stop loading wait-list numbers and will find out tomorrow?

My sense from reading last year's thread is that they updated all the waitlist positions in one day (and thus if you're still on hold right now it's likely a rejection). Of course, who knows.

So my OCD has me wondering... How many acceptances did they give out initially before getting to the waitlist? Do the give out the 146 (total number of seats I believe) before Doing the waitlist? Or do they account for the people who had already withdrawn their acceptance before compiling the waitlist?

I would like to know that also....

#93, Very rare for them to get that far down the list, so I guess Ill be sending my deposit in for the masters and restarting my application process.:smack:If I'm not accepted this year, I will be back next year with a masters degree! They can't get rid of me that easily :prof:

I called them yesterday about "where I was" when I heard people getting acceptances and the lady had told me that they had "already given out 146 acceptances." So I don't think they accounted for the people that already withdrew, but that's just the vibe I got when I talked to her. Somebody could call again tomorrow to confirm that.

Crap. Just now?
Yeah,

I guess I'm just a little shocked...I atleast thought a waitlist spot would be possible since I wasn't rejected post-interview. Does OHSU offer rejection interviews/followups?

Yes, they said they offer reviews in June for people who weren't accepted.

Good info! Thanks! I guess the next Q becomes.. Of those accepted, who/how many will withdraw their acceptance? Also, who on the waitlist will absolutely proceed with OHSU if the waitlist number gets to them? I would!

Congrats! That's great! May I ask what you did differently this year?
I was in a similar situation last year, ranked above 100 and didn't get in. I added some shadowing, some more volunteer hours, and another physician letter. I was then interviewed this year and placed on hold 12/08 and accepted last week.

Thank you for the information. I should increase my volunteer hours and try to get into research in my masters program.

Was just rejected. Pretty surprised because I thought my interview went awesome. Guess I will submit my AMCAS again on May 5...

I'm Sorry Guys. 🙁 I will also be submitting mine on May 5th.
I would suggest you guys all call and do an exit interview, and be prepared to ask questions about your app. Like was my interview good, are my grades scores ok, should I do more shadowing, etc. they will walk through there notes but that's your one shot of how to better prepare. Then if applying next week if you get an interview come October I'd write an update on what you have done between May-October just to add an extra thing to your app. It worked for me on reapplying (n=1 obviously)

Great advice. Thank you. I will definitely will do that.👍

What do you guys mean by submitting may 5? I thought we could not submit until june

Rejected today.
I think I bombed the MMI because I drank a cup of coffee before and felt like my bladder was going to explode the whole time.
My advice for re-applicants: Don't drink coffee prior to interview circuit

Congrats! That's great! May I ask what you did differently this year?

The exit interview was helpful in small ways that prompted me to make the following differences.
1) They pointed out one of my secondaries essays that they thought was weak, and I totally re-wrote it. I realized I had answered the questions fairly superficially and I went back to everything I wrote in all the applications to assess if this was the case anywhere else. Anything that did not point to either I would be a good doctor or good fit for OHSU or interesting person was thrown out, even if it answered the question technically.
2) They felt that in my MMI's I did not elaborate enough. I went into the MMI's the first time treating it like a conversation and answered the questions with what I really thought. The second time I treated them more like verbal essay questions that explored all potential avenues instead of just expressing my opinion. This is a great link that explains this further (Kevin Ahern's Guide to Acing A Medical School Interview, part one is helpful too). This method seemed to work great for the short responses MMI-- although my committee member interview went poorly, so I would be zero help on that.

My MCAT also expired so I had to retake it over the summer and scored several point higher.

Hope that helps. For all those looking at another application cycle, keep up the hard work and don't give up!

Does anyone know how long an individual has to decide on their acceptance if they come off the waitlist?

When do you guys think the daily updates as to where we are on the alternate list will start being posted. I am planning to add to the WL graph for next year applicants.

Also, will they let us know in the portal if they have filled all the spots?

The updates will be in the portal it will show what number on the waitlist they are on. It will get updated as they move along.

They also say on the portal that updates will begin mid-May. Hopefully happens sooner!!

Rejected. As a Duck, this really bums me out. My application was strong enough to get me in somewhere else, so maybe I didn't do as well on the mmi as I thought. Oh well, I'm happy I got in where I did! Good luck to all of you!

Hi everyone, first time poster. I'm wondering if OHSU "over-accept" or not? Like do they offer 146 only acceptances and go straight to the waitlist if someone drops or do they offer like 170 acceptances and if they don't fill all 146 seats then they go to the waitlist?

They do not over accept from what I know. They only accept if there are open seats. Once someone drops its straight off the waitlist from there.

So last year they accepted 240 people for 139 seats. Does that mean that 101 people came off the wl? Or is there some secret ancient formula that OHSU use?

Last year the waitlist went to like 52 I believe, they accept people throughout the season and then more toward the end. So right at the end they had say 146 offers out but people had dropped already during the interview season so when the waitlist came out they were probably already at like 190 acceptances since people had already given up there spots. Does that make sense?

I disagree with the above. I had a post about this earlier, but I'll repeat it.

When I called on Monday, 4/27, the day before the alternate list came out, I specifically asked the woman I talked with: "Are there any more acceptances?" And she told me "No, all of the 146 acceptances haven't been given out. If you are still on hold, then you will be placed on the alternate list or rejected, and you'll hear that by response by Thursday" Aka today.

So based on this conversation, I don't think they over-accept. I think they give out 146 acceptances, and that right now they are gathering those who are wishing to withdraw. Then in mid-May, when the list alternate list comes out, those withdrawn spots are offered to the alternate list folks.

This lady, of course, be wrong, but if she was correct, then I do not think they over-accept.

I wasn't saying they over accept, I was saying that by April 30th more than 146 acceptances have been given out. This meaning people have already denied OHSUs acceptance to them. So at april 30th they have 146 offers out to people. But over the whole course of the interview season they may have already given out 180+ since not everyone accepted ends up saying yes.

Great dialogue. It would be great if someone called and got clarification. Going back to the actual interview day, they stated they would send out roughly 200 to 225 acceptances. Based off simple math.. If they send out 139 acceptances (last year) and only got into the #50 range for waitlist.. That would be only ~#190 acceptances sent out. A little short of the estimate they gave out. Also, they are adding 7 seats this year. Potentially affects the number they will get to on the waitlist.

So heres the lowdown...like what exitonly was saying - As they interview they start giving out acceptances since like November, some of the people they give acceptances let them know sooner than April 30th that they are not going. At April 30th they have the full amount of "standing" acceptances - people they have not heard back from. So what this means for last year was that 10-35 people who they accepted let them know sooner than April 30th that they were not going to OHSU. Make sense?
