2014-2015 Rush Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
can anyone comment on ratio of admissions offers to interview offers?

Did everyone who received a II get an email stating that their application was complete?

On the secondary, it asks whether I was employed during my undergrad studies? Is that any job where I get a paycheck, like being a TA?

Last two years was ~450 interviewed, ~225 accepted.
Do you happen to know the breakdown specifically for OOS applicants? It seems like rush has a particularly high acceptance rate for interviewees. MSAR's data says that 80 out of 170 OOS interviewees matriculate at Rush, so I'd imagine that they accept over 50% of OOS applicants.

How does Rush view "in the area" letters? I don't live very close and my wallet is already hurting.

That's because they try to narrow down the number of people they want to interview. My class is around 50/50 OOS but possibly more. Same with LostinLift's class.

I don't know of anyone that's tried it or what their policy is on it.

Ahh, sorry I didn't explain my question very well. Out of the ~160 OOS students that interview each year, 80 matriculate at rush. How many out of these 160 OOS interviewees are accepted? Surely there are accepted applicants that don't matriculate at Rush. I'm just trying to gauge my statistical odds.

Regarding that, I'm not sure. I don't recall that ratio being mentioned during my interview, and I'm wondering if the number of OOS interviews is accurate considering 80% of my interview group was OOS. I don't know if that's even something to use to gauge your odds as Rush has the tendency to see how people's backgrounds and personalities fit in with the class rather than to meet some OOS/IS ratio, and sometimes, diversifying the class means taking more OOS people with different backgrounds. I could be wrong tho. I'm a little out of the loop these days.

You also have to take my words with a grain of salt, since I'm not involved in admissions and can't say for sure.

Has anyone interviewed yet that would like to discuss their experience?

Ok, yea how was it?
With the exception of a few very serious faculty members, in general they try to make it a very relaxing experience for you. The Director of Admissions joked around with us a lot and you're encouraged to talk to fellow interviewees.
I was interviewed by a faculty member and a Rush physician and generally had a good time with them during the thirty minute interview. I felt like I was having a conversation with someone and I think a lot of people in my class had a similar experience.

Thank you, I'm very excited for the date to finally arrive!

For those of you who have interviewed, about what time were you done with the whole interview day?

Thought i had been passed over but i guess not! II today! OOS complete late July.

Congrats!

I was complete very early July. I think this was the first secondary I completed. I hope I hear some good news soon.

Do they reject throughout the duration of the cycle?

Well they are definitely offering II's very randomly (not adhering to any complete date order) so you're definitely still in the running. I don't really know when they start rejecting. Wish i knew more! I hope you hear soon too!

Well, I added this school Sept 8, and the secondary went to spam Sept 10. Worth the $100 or whatever the fee is?

For those of you who have interviewed, about what time were you done with the whole interview day?
I think my day ended before 3...but I really don't remember. I remember hauling ass to the airport though. And by hauling, I mean praying the orange line to MDW would just freakin' go faster. If you're booking flights, try to book a later one because getting through TSA is a pain, especially if you're interviewing closer to holiday season.
FWIW, cabs are ~24-30 from ORD and MDW, but it kinda varies on the traffic and which route they take or how long you're sitting in traffic.

Second this message. Also, just realized Rush never sent me an e-mail that granted me a secondary... Apparently my fee waiver was approved on the 15th, so I am already 2 weeks behind. I clicked communication status, which further showed that no e-mails at all were actually sent. Should I still do this secondary? What even happened?
If your fee is waived, then it doesn't hurt to fill out the secondary and submit it if you have time and meet the community-service minimum. I wouldn't worry so much about being "behind."

What is the community service minimum?

II about 10 minutes ago. 7th interview invite this cycle! Complete mid-July.

OOS. 32/3.5c/3.6s (3.8+ when you take away comm. coll. prior to military service). Reapplicant, but not to Rush. Nontrad, Military Vet, well traveled, Master's Degree, tons of extracurriculars - research, nonprofit founder, clinical and nonclinical volunteering in US and abroad.

Does rush send complete emails? I just looked at my communication status on my secondary and I never got a complete message. I paid July 16th so i am hoping there wasn't an error on their part

Thats what I mean, I do not think I ever got a complete message. Maybe I did not look properly, but I don't have it in my e-mail. In my portal, there is not date next to the complete status so I can only speculate on my completion date.

Congrats! Just got my Rush II, and it's my 7th as well. Complete 7/22, LizzyM<72, OOS. Big smile! Looking forward to visiting the windy city in the cold winter.

They're still only on apps in July??? I feel like being complete in September is too late for this school...
