lalalalala123, do you mind sharing when you were complete?

Hey. Sorry to hear that. Your stats are awesome so I am shocked they put you on hold. I am nervous about myself now. Do you mind sharing when you were "complete"?

I was complete on 08/19. Good luck to everyone else. A Hold isn't a death sentence, at least.

Any news on the student host program for interviewees? Is there even one?

For host program, look at the "overnight hosts" link and email a student listed there.

Interviewing next week (anyone else?). Looking at hotels since I have to arrive the night before, but the one that they recommend (Genesee Grande Hotel) is quite pricey. Will call tomorrow to see if there is a discount for medical school interviewees. Though a little farther away, I'm also considering the Econo Lodge Downtown since it seems to be much cheaper. What are others doing for lodging?

Crowne plaza, mention upstate and it's ~$100. 15 minute walk from admissions or a free shuttle ride.

II received but no email, had to check my app online (fortunately I've been doing this neurotically anyway) but woo!

II via status update, not sure how long it's been there because I haven't been checking. IS, complete 7/25. I had previously been on hold, but there was some confusion regarding my legal residence so that may be why.

Where is the status update located? I logged on but can't seem to find where they might put an update!

Does anyone that scheduled a Sept/early Oct interview and needs to change dates want to swap with my Oct 27 date (a Monday)? I have been calling them and they seem really chill about swapping dates, just no one to swap with....

Does anyone know how many of the OOS students interviewed are accepted?

MSAR SUNY Upstate OOS stats from last year: 2,310 applications. 125 Interviewed. 12 matrics. Doesn't say how many acceptances, however.

Anyone know if SUNY Upstate allows OOS ppl to pay only IS tuition after MS-1?

one of the SUNY websites has information on how to qualify. you have to change your permanent residence, etc.; dorms may not count, I can't remember specifics b/c I'm IS myself, I browsed briefly for my boyfriend who ended up not applying to SUNYs because the requirements were a little complicated

I know someone who was OOS at Downstate, and rented an apartment to get the residency requirement. I agree that I don't think dorms count, but all in all, a pretty sweet deal for OOS students applying to NY.

I looked around and saw 16 OOS matriculated and 125 were interviewed. Any idea how many OOS were accepted?

Schools usually accept 2-3x the matriculated rate. However, for a school like Upstate, OOS people probably won't end up matriculating due to higher OOS costs and the fact the Syracuse isn't the nicest city. So they probably accept something like 30-40 OOS.

12 matriculated MD, 3 MD/PhD, if that's what you're referring to. Total 15 OOS, with 12 MD. MSAR does not release total acceptance information. Someone who may have asked an adcom member in person may be able to answer.

Thanks for the heads up. I double checked the rates of Genesee Grande ($102) and Crowne Plaza ($96), so difference was negligible. I ended up booking with Genesee Grande since it was the one Upstate initially suggested and it got slightly better reviews on the sites that I checked.

I recently interviewed here and thought it was awesome! Does anyone know how long it takes in general for the admissions office to update us on acceptances/rejections?

How did you all update the class list on the interview site? Can it just be a list of the courses I'm taking, or should I screenshot from my schools scheduling system or something?

How comfortable did you find the overall MMI experience compared to a traditional interview? Did you feel like the interview was more about what you've done/want to do/you as an applicant than it was about how you handle different scenarios?

Thanks!!

I was a bit nervous at first being that it was one of my first MMI's, however I thought it went pretty well. The only advice I can give is be yourself, stay calm, and be confident in your answers. I feel my interview emphasized more scenarios, although there was some stuff relating to you as the applicant. Although it went pretty well for me, I think I still prefer traditional interviews.

I received the complete email 8/14 and have not received any status updates. I know of others who have received at least "holds" on their files by now who submitted around the same timeframe as myself. Anyone know how I should interpret this? Silent rejection?

Same here. I was complete around the same time. Have not heard anything yet.

Does anyone know if Upstate rejects at this point? Or do they just have an interview invite pile and the rest are put on hold?

Really excited to receive a II here today! It's my first II as well!

IS, LizzyM 70. Complete 9/12. Interviews are booked until Nov/Dec. Hope it won't be too cold then since I don't know my way around! 🙂

Anyone who interviewed already's 'Congratulations on your interview' status disappear today?

Haven't gotten a 'complete' email yet, it says my secondary is in the "supplemental load process"... any idea what that means? I submitted it on 09/10

Didn't interview yet but im curious how much of what you were asked was anticipated, and how much was curveball

Also what time did the day start/end

From my interviews this cycle, I've heard that the first day ANY medical school can legally give out acceptances is Oct 15th. So it'll likely be around there that you'll find out.

Depending on whether you interview in the morning or afternoon, it is either 8-1 or 10-3. Some curveballs, majority straightforward.
