2014-2015 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rejected early this morning. Complete 7/15 best of luck to all of you.

Wow, that's A LOT of rejections. I feel slightly less crappy now.

Rejected just now. Disappointed, I really wanted to have a shot here, especially since I heard they are kind to SMPers and I'm currently in one. =\

Best of luck to everyone else!

Heyyy look at that, I'm not alone in the rejected boat :/

Two rejections today and I also missed my bus home... not a great day. Oh well, best of luck to everybody.

Rejected a couple days ago. 😢 OOS, run-of-the-mill stats.

when were you all complete, if you don't mind?
sorry about that all 🙁 still in progress over here...

Is anyone else dying from the waiting?! If you are going to reject me Tulane make it quick!

Yes I feel like I've been neurotically checking just to find out repeatedly that judging by the IIs, they're not gonna get to my group for another few weeks -_-

It gets worse when you start seeing people talk about their rejections and II who completed their secondary right around the time you completed yours. Was expecting to hear something this week but no dice... Maybe I will get lucky next week.

ITT: people smarter than me getting rejected.

I'm done for. :dead:

I'm thinking of arriving Saturday for my Monday interview and staying in a hotel before hopefully staying with a student Sunday night. Does anyone know which of the hotels they recommended would be in a good area for walking around/sightseeing?

I'm staying at the St. Christopher! It seems to be a great place. I will update more this weekend when I stay there.

Last I checked, they recommended the Holiday Inn and the Maison Dupuy. The Maison is in a much better area for sightseeing and walking around, but it will certainly cost more.

I stayed at the Maison and loved both the hotel and the neighborhood. In fact, I rent an apartment nearby.

For walking around, plan on paying a lot and staying in the Quarter or around the CBD or Warehouse District. Alternatively, stay on Canal Street or St. Charles and take the streetcar downtown for walking around purposes.

I'll be staying at Harrah's (or one of their hotels right there), what is the area like around there? What are some bars and restaurants you'd recommend @sazerac and what's the best way to get around?

I was complete 9th of July my status hasn't changed 🙁 . I'm a Canadian applicant do you know if it takes longer to process Canadians?

Holiday Inn for me. Clean, modern, and close to the University? Please and thank you.

i've been complete since 7/30 and have not received any sort of status change. i did however get a 'prelim reject' earlier in august.

Here is a link to hotels in and around the CBD (Central Business District), and the French Quarter, all walkable to food, entertainment, etc. The link provided here allows you to take a scenic ride uptown on the streetcar to the university (alternatively, a cab). https://www.google.com/webhp?source...2&ie=UTF-8#q=hotels on poydras st new orleans

There are many hotels in NOLA. You can also do a search for hotels, B&B's in "Uptown New Orleans" which is where Tulane is located.

If the New Orleans Saints are playing at home in the Dome...depending on the team, it may be difficult getting a room at a decent rate.

Rejected 🙁. Complete early August. Super bummed, I really like this school but oh well. Good luck to everyone still in the game here!

Rejected this morning. First one yet. It definitely hurts.

Completed in August. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Rejection this morning as well. LizzyM ~78, complete in mid aug. Oh well, best of luck to everyone!

Rejected this morning, complete 8/5. Lizzy M~ 76. Lived overseas, worked with underserved, volunteered in Africa, tutored students for years. What are they looking for exactly?

Did you write on your application that you "volunteered in Africa"? Because I don't think many people write that they "volunteered in North America." Africa is one of the most heterogeneous "places" on Earth. Tunisia is not Côte d'Ivoire is not South Africa.

Edit: My point also has to do with race, self-perception, and Western mentalities. However, I don't know your circumstances so I won't go there.

Your "point" relies on the enormous assumption that Fathead56 indeed wrote "volunteered in Africa" and that's it on his medical school application, which is absurd. Furthermore, you are basing this ridiculous assumption off of a message board post. If you want to make a bigger point about "Western mentalities" (which, don't get me wrong, could be entirely valid), it doesn't belong here.

Sportsguy comes to fathead's rescue! Well, hold your horses sports guys. The very first sentence in my post was questioning if he did indeed write that, and the very last sentence was me saying I didn't know his circumstances. Soooo, thank you for your bombastic language... :corny:

Also, I agree that this discussion doesn't belong here. These forums are obviously reserved for:
1. People questioning why they weren't the 1/25 qualified applicants asked to interview
2. People asking interviewees' stats
3. People letting others know how awesome or unfortunate they are
4. People asking questions that no one here could possibly know the answer to
5. I give up. :welcome:

First, your disclaimers don't excuse the post. Fathead (who I don't know) would have to be a complete idiot to write that on his app, so you were implying that he is a complete idiot. Second, giving four other examples of dumb posts as a defense for your dumb post...well, I don't think I need to explain the fallacies in that. Speaking of dumb posts, I also don't like when people get into trivial message board sparring, so I'll end my responses here.

Oh boy. "Enormous," "complete," "ridiculous," "dumb." You are just pure, rational sunshine, sportsguy. I'll hold off on the ad hominem attacks. I agree there is no reason to subject everyone else to this. So... /end.

Actually the medical school is in the CBD. Hotels and food in the CBD and the quarter are pricy. Check out airbnb.com. People rent out there extra rooms for a few nights all over new orleans and most are cheaper than hotels and you get to stay with a local which you could use for a crash course on our fair city.

Rejected this morning. The message was in my spam folder and for a moment I was excited because the subject was all like "IMPORTANT NEWS!" I got my first II from BU fifteen minutes before that though, so I was too happy to be sad.

On the bright side, I guess none of us should feel too bad about being rejected from Tulane. It sounds like they are looking for a very specific type of applicant and many highly qualified people (with interviews elsewhere) are being turned away.

Best of luck elsewhere! And congrats to those of you who made it to an interview here!

Tulane School of Medicine is downtown in the CBD (Central Business District). The undergrad campus is in Uptown, which is a bit away (by New Orleans standards).
