Okay guys check this out...

Last night, I had like 4 dreams/nightmares alternating back and forth. First, I had a dream that I got in! Then, a nightmare I didn't. Afterwards, another dream that I got in. And finally, a nightmare telling me that I've been dreaming the past three times...

Anyone know when the most recent IIs were sent out? Does USUHS send rejection notices or is it silent rejection?

Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but based on reading over previous years' forums, information posted on USUHS' website, and other odds and ends (including information provided in the interview), here is what I believe happens.

If USUHS offers you an interview, I don't think it is possible that they'll send you a flat rejection after the interview. After you attend the interview, below are the three possible outcomes. Again, take what I say with a grain of salt.

1) Acceptance! - No need to explain.

2) Wait-list. This warrants some explanation. According to USUHS, wait-listed applicants are perfectly capable and worthy candidates for USUHS admission. The only reason that a wait-list is given, to my understanding, is that there simply isn't room left. As other people decline their offers of acceptance, then people from the wait-list will be pulled to fill those spots. The admissions committee doesn't reveal wait-list rankings, but your competitiveness, chosen branch of service, and whether you completed the physical on a timely basis are all factors that will influence when/if you'll be pulled from the wait-list and given an offer. To avoid being placed on the wait-list, it is important to apply as early as possible and interview as soon as possible. It seems that USUHS, much more so than other schools, place a heavy emphasis on rolling admissions and getting everything in EARLY. If you get an interview and there are still spots left, then your chance of an acceptance should be very good. Finally, it is important to emphasize that a wait-list at USUHS doesn't mean that you are not quite good enough (as is often the case with other schools). It simply means that all the spots are gone.

3) Alternate-list. This is different from the wait-list. To my understanding, you get placed on the alternate-list simply because you are not quite good enough. You definitely have the ability to succeed in USUHS, but there are certain parts of your application that the admissions committee finds problematic. It could be low stats, a lack of ECs, or some other red flags. It is still possible to gain an acceptance while on the alternate-list, but the chances are much lower. Individuals on the alternate-list aren't as desirable as those on the wait-list, and wait-list individuals will always get priority.

If USUHS decides to accept you right away, then you'll most likely hear from them within a month of your interview (provided it is after October 15th). If your fate is a wait-list or alternate-list, then USUHS will probably send you an email several months after your interview. In other words, the school will not contact you immediately if you are not given a straight acceptance.

Again, this is only based on my understanding of the process. So take what I say with a grain of salt! But I hope that it clarifies the process for some individuals.

October 8th interview isn't late at all. Very surprised that you didn't get accepted.

Yea I was too. 1st interviewer was ok. 2nd I thought I knocked that out of the park, even got delayed and missed the tour because we talked for so long. Guess it's the waiting game for now but already behind last attempt.

Just saw the US News and world report data- they accept 112/181 women interviewees?!? Holy smokes! Any thoughts on why that number is so high (not that I'm complaining..)

I think it's because military selects for males and they are actively trying to have more female candidates? Also, USU post interview acceptance rate seems quite high. I think at my interview they quoted something like 290 acceptances out of 500 interviews.

is becoming complete beginning of oct too late for this school?

USUHS says that if we interview in September/October, we'll know in 4-6 weeks. Does this mean that they won't tell you the result until at least 4 weeks? The people getting called right now interviewed on 9/11, which is almost 5 weeks ago.

Odd. I sent a couple of thank you notes to my interviewers c/o the admissions office, but I just got one back with black marker all over the address. Do they not take thank you notes?

When did you send the letters?

Eqkc are you doing the host program? I'll send you a message. Maybe meet up for coffee while we're there

My understanding is that traditionally, USUHS has had something around 30% women in any given class - significantly below the nationwide average. Some of this is a self-selection bias among the applicants, but at my interview, they specifically mentioned the male to female ratio as something they were actively working to address in the admissions process. My guess is the numbers you're seeing are reflective of the effort to recruit and admit more women.

For anyone that received an acceptance today, are you guys prior service? I have noticed some pretty odd trends for prior service folks applying here and just want to see if this cycle is going to continue.

No prior service for me.

Me neither. No prior service.

Doing some prorastinating b reading all about the curriculum and USUHS in preperation for my interview in two weeks. Wasn't actually that excited before--- super, duper stoked now! Hurry up interview!

Anybody got the call today?

Feel free to keep this thread updated!

I interviewed 9/18! I ranked army and PH as my first choice, so I have gotten army but they decide PH in November, so I would pick between the two then if I got it!

Does anyone know if the committee makes one round of calls per week, or call close to every day?
