2014-2015 University of Arizona Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got put on hold today 10/3/14... is getting putting on hold the kiss of death here?

For those of you who have interviewed, how was the pre-reception event? Did you get a chance to talk to a lot of current medical students? Thanks!

I did. Highly recommended if for no other reason than you get comfortable with the whole scene.

How many people do they put on hold?

Everyone that doesn't get an interview at that particular review time gets put on hold, until the application is reviewed again. At which point, you can be invited for interview, or remain on hold.

For everyone freaking out about holds: don't. If you look at last years thread, there are numerous examples of people being taken off hold and receiving an II. If you want one from this year, me. I was placed on hold, and then received an II 10 days later for their first interview date. It is possible.

I received an interview invite on 10/3 - IS, LZ ~69, nontrad.... I did NOT receive an email regarding the invite but saw it when I checked the portal (and by no email this includes my spam/junk folder).
It may pay to check if you were complete around 8/18 (my "complete" date - as in when I submitted secondary and paid the fee) as you only have a week to reply apparently.
Good luck.

Yea, absolutely. The med student ambassadors had jeans and one was wearing shorts...

It actually explicitly says on the pre-reception invite schedule to dress in business casual, and almost all the potential candidates (not current med students) were quite dressed up. Out of about 20, there were 2 people in my group that were wearing jeans and I think they were borderline embarrassingly underdressed. I always err on the side of being over-dressed anyways...

Cool. Did you curtsy, too?

I will bite my tongue because I just went back and checked - the currently-posted agenda for the pre-reception says that the dress is casual. But, that was not the case when I interviewed a couple weeks ago. (I still have a print out of the agenda that definitely states that you need to dress up). I do feel like it is a casual event, so they likely changed the information accordingly.

Still no good news on my end. Hold email exactly 2 months ago. Nothing since. The hardest part is that I have no idea what's going on, especially considering I was interviewed last cycle and my application this time around is much, much better.

I've been on hold since last month. I feel you. Like the message states, we will be reconsidered for an interview. Hopefully good news will come soon. Don't panic just yet. 🙂

I'm just wondering whether those on Hold are ranked somehow. Or whether they put those that are most likely to be rejected on hold as well even though chances are high they will be rejected later on. Who knows.

I'm pretty sure I just wasted some money by submitting the secondary so late. But ugh, this was the most brutal secondary I have ever seen, took me a few days to write those essays

Does anyone know if UA is open to pre-II updates?

I also interviewed 9/6 and was hoping we would hear soon. Just gotta remember that patience really is a virtue in this process!
I also interviewed on 9/6. I emailed the admissions office requesting an update on the decision process and am yet to hear anything back from them : /

I was by there yesterday and they said "Probably November"

"Probably November" as opposed to December ha?
I ran into one of the staffers at the local coffee stand and that's what she told me. It sounds like people are getting different answers depending on who they spoke with.

Thats what it sounds like. Looking through the threads of previous years it doesn't look like they've released the first round of decisions in October for sometime. Damn

I asked during my interview and they said the adcom would meet the last week of Oct and release decisions early Nov guys
