2014-2015 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congratulations! What exactly do you mean by profile? Also, what were the dates for when you were waitlist and accepted etc.
CSS PROFILE is the finaid application used by UCSF.

Good luck with the waitlist!

EDIT: Can't recall dates off the top of my head, but they're in my MDapps. I think I got the WL in in December and was taken off last week.

Do students who were accepted off the waitlist also get the acceptance packet?

General question: I'm interested in applying to UCSF but will not have a zoology course completed by application time. Is this essential for obtaining a secondary, or is it something I could complete after submitting my app? Don't want to waste money applying here if not having zoology is going to make them reject me pre-II.

Haven't heard anything yet...been waiting for so long. But it gives me hope knowing that acceptances off the WL have started trickling in!

I don't believe zoology is mandatory. Just a course that addresses it. Also you shouldn't be rejected prior to the secondary or even interview over a class. They just need you to complete requirements before matriculation.

My friend just checked, supposedly some packages come out today and the rest at the end of next week.

You might want to check your my access financial aid section. Let us know if there are any updates.

I have an "accept awards" tab, which simply lists loan conditions and an "awards breakdown" tab, which lists the COA for the year.... but no aid. It also lists my parental/student EFCs as zero, so should I assume that not all the aid information has been uploaded to the portal?

It should show in the Documents tab which documents have been received and haven't. For CSS profiles, it took mine a few days. Tax returns get uploaded as soon as IDOC verifies them.

I just received my FA package as well this morning.

FinAid letter here as well...though I'm a little confused, as the loans I've been offered don't cover CoA?

My first guess is that the package does not include Grad PLUS, which is assumed on their part to cover the difference. Let me know if you find out if the explanation.

Yeah, I don't have any Grad PLUS listed, and from poking around it seems like that's the case. But I'll definitely check in with the FinAid office at ASW as well next week.

When I log into MyAccess I see the "Accept Awards" tab and an "Awards Breakdown" tab. The email they sent me says I should accept the awards in order to view my financial aid offer (under the accept awards tab). But I can already see the awards in the awards breakdown. Is there anything different that appears in the accept awards tab when I click "I agree to these terms and conditions" and then click the submit button?
I wouldn't accept the award just yet. You may want to reduce your loans (if you are given any), for example, if you find you won't need to borrow that much. I think by accepting, you borrow the loan amount listed and will have to repay it in total even if you receive less. Correct me if I am wrong.

This is what the email says:

"
Select the Accept Awards tab to view your financial aid offer. Please read the entire page before accepting, declining or reducing your awards.
•Select the Awards Breakdown tab to see how funds are divided among the fall, winter and spring quarters."

You don't have to accept the award to view the breakdown. There shouldn't be anything different, except you might need more documentation if they require it.

Congrats!! Were you wait listed? If so, when did you end up in the wait list?
Was waitlisted a few months ago. The wait seems neverending!

Has anyone started an alternate list thread for UCSF? Here's hoping to only 20 more days of waiting!

I am not sure if there is a super obvious answer to this question but I can't seem to figure this out 😕. In our financial aid portal, in the documents tab there is a form listed as "Parent Federal Tax Return". Where do I fill this form out? There is no link for it, right?

Once you fill out the PROFILE, you should get the link to upload documents via IDOC, which (I think) is where you'll turn in the Parent Federal Tax Return.

The last move of my application season, but after a lot of thought I withdrew from UCSF. ASW was a great experience – the students were welcoming, the faculty was super accessible, and Dean Wofsy feels like the kind of guy you want to sit down with and have him tell you his life story. (Is it just me or is his voice oddly relaxing?).

Hopefully I'll find my way back here, maybe four or so years down the road? Please don't lock me out SF! Good luck to all those on the waitlist; it's about time you guys got some action! :luck:

Withdrawing as well. This won't be my last withdrawal, but I know it will definitely be the hardest. I loved this institution so so much, but to make a long story short, UCSF and the city itself just doesn't work out financially for me and my family. Best of luck to everyone else!

Finally withdrew from all my other schools. Definitely matriculating now 🙂

If I could live anywhere right now, I might just choose to live in San Francisco. And if I could learn how to practice medicine in any clinical environment right now, I might just choose to do so at UCSF.

But I have finally accepted that due to personal and financial considerations, I just can't offer San Francisco the full embrace that it requires and deserves. I hope that someone who fits perfectly at UCSF will take my spot. Good luck to all!

Edited to add: I got a kind response to my withdrawal email from UCSF's admissions office, the only school that has done that. A nice touch.

Does UCSF require a deposit to hold a seat in the class? Just want to make sure I didn't miss anything!

Has anyone on the waitlist recevied any info from the admissions office; if they are planning on accepting alternates tomorrow or perhaps later on in May?

Called this week and things will most likely be quiet until after the May deadline.

Ok. Wasn't sure because today is the deadline to choose a school. What is the May deadline/ when is it? From last year's thread it seemed that most people were taken off the wait list May 16th- the day after everyone had to choose a school. Was hoping we would maybe hear something tomorrow....

I think what they meant is to expect some movement, but not immediately after the deadline so as to give them some time to go through the wait list.

In the same boat here: spending my days wondering whether I'll ever get into my number one/most loved school ever...and it's killing me!

Just curious...for those of you who have been accepted from the wait list so far. How did you hear from the school about your acceptance? Email or phone?

I heard via email - subject was something along the lines of "status update".

Does UCSF give any scholarship money? I got all loans and will probably withdraw by the end of the day.
