2014-2015 University of Cincinnati Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My point is, though, that the committee that reviews applications met last night to make another round of decisions. The committee meets every Tuesday evening bi-weekly at this time in the season (so I have been told, and this was also the case last application cycle). And again, not everyone will hear that soon. They have a convenient note under your current status indicating that a decision might even take up to 8 weeks at certain times of the season, even though they try to keep it within the 3 week mark.

Thanks for the explanation KillaKitteh! Also, I love the username and pic. 🙂

Accepted today!!! I was expecting to hear back next week since I interviewed on 10/10, so this was quite the surprise. Plus it was my first acceptance, so...SIGH OF RELIEF.

Good luck to everyone else and feel free to PM me for MMI interview advice! I'll try to unload whatever knowledge I have haha 😉

Accepted today! Interviewed 10/15 and thrilled to hear back so soon. This was my first interview and first acceptance and I feel very honored to have the opportunity to become a physician. UC seems like a great place to study and practice medicine!

For people accepted last week- are we supposed to be receiving something in the mail? I can't remember if the initial acceptance notification said so or not. I already confirmed my acceptance on the portal but didn't know if we were expecting mail. Thanks!

I got the same email. I got excited when I saw an email from them only to be informed that my app is still under review for a potential interview...

So is this a hold status? Or a "we're still working on it" update?

I withdrew a couple weeks ago and got the update. Strange...

Sorry to hear that! Are you talking about the "we are still reviewing your app" email that a bunch of us got, or a different specific hold email?

Same e-mail. The greetings! e-mail. I'm just classifying every one of these e-mails that states they are going to consider your app again later as a hold.

Well, it's not a rejection, if anything it's confirmation that my e-mail address is working. With how quiet schools have been, I sometimes worry that my e-mail is broken.. So that's a plus side, I suppose 😉

That is true that it's not a rejection, but most schools don't do rejections do they?

UC, similar to most schools, ranks applicants based on how early he/she submits application and on mcat score. They then proceed by moving downward from the top of the list to review each applicant. They get so many applicants each year, the email was probably to let you know they haven't gotten to your applicant file yet. I don't think it's a hold, rather an update that your application is still waiting to be reviewed. I'm looking at it as hope rather than a denial. While it's hard seeing so many get their acceptances on here without receiving an interview yet, you never know what could happen during the winter and spring months with decision making and movement within acceptances. Quite frankly, I'm a little relieved seeing the email because most other schools don't give a similar update in where they are with the reviewing process with regards to your application.

Got the "greetings" email as well, and I've gotta say hearing something, ANYTHING is better than nothing at all so long as it isn't a "Thanks but no thanks" email.

Hmm this sounds nice but I was complete very beginning of July and have mcat higher than their average seems by November they would've gotten to me by now?....

Did anyone NOT get the email?

I'm okay with the email... like others have said previously, at least it's not a rejection...?

Most medical school admissions teams are on point this year with their email correspondences/application updates. All of those I have received have been generally warm and friendly, including this "greetings!" email.

Received the greeting as well today...... just thankful it wasn't a rejection.......

Keep in mind Cincinnati has a moderate IS bias.

Keep in mind Cincinnati has a moderate IS bias.

Not that moderate: They interview 29% of IS applicants and 6% of OOS applicants. Post interview rate is about the same I think, if you assume similar yields.

They also seem to have an anti-non-traditional bias, since they have significantly fewer students over the age of 25 than the average medical school.

I got the same greetings email. Mixed feelings though. Congrats to all that have been accepted so far!

What are the next steps for those of us who have been accepted? Any financial aid stuff we can do right now?

I also received the "greetings" email, and I was complete in Oct, OOS. It seems possible that everyone who has not heard back yet was sent that email.

I called the admissions office after receiving that email and I was told that it is not a hold. UC just felt as though they wanted to reach out to people who haven't heard back yet and give them a little insight into the application process.

So, all in all, if you received the email you're still in the running!

Wasn't there supposed to be an adcom meeting early this week?
