Did anyone else feel like they were simply rehashing parts of their PS or is it just me? My response to this secondary essay prompt and my PS do emphasize different parts of my background put I just don't want the reader to feel like their rereading the same story twice. Any suggestions?

I took an element from my PS and expanded it and added depth to it. I think that's sorta what they are looking for.
 
Mine was only like 800 words, but it was over 5,000 characters, so I did find it helpful to have the extra length. The limit is definitely 2,000 words- I called and confirmed the other day.
 
There website is not as helpful as others when answering the "why us?" question. What have you guys found that is unique about the school? I definitely selected which schools on AMCAS by stats and location...
 
Yea, I've tried to give different aspects of my diversity that I didn't write about in my personal statement. It's tough! So far I'm at 1,300 words, and think I'm stopping right around here.

Edit: Does anyone know if the application allows you to separate the paragraphs instead of leaving it as one big block? Thanks in advance

You can. Shift+Enter (Or Shift+Return on a Mac).
 
Anybody know how checking the boxes for the track programs affects the application? As in....are you considered separately from those who did not check any of the track programs? Are there separate spots for track programs vs. non-track students?

Your are considered for the Track and MD admissions separately. Not sure if there are separate spots though.
 
I would've been cool with 2000 characters on that prompt.

I am interested in the LEADS track but not sure if it is no longer available, or if you cant apply to that track if you are doing the rural or urban track? CU has a few other tracks on their website but don't ask about those in the secondary...

edit: missed the last part where they do ask about them... oops.

I think you apply to certain tracks after you are accepted.

Nope, you are considered OOS for all four years as far as I know.

My acceptance was in my spam folder so keep an eye on your spam and your filters for the remainder of the cycle 🙄.
 
Our prompt last year was indeed limited to 2500 characters (~400 words), much more reasonable. I honestly think that 2000 words is overkill and if you write an essay that long it will be full of fluff and I don't think that it will improve your chances.

Do you happen to know if Colorado interviews IS students first vs OOS?
 
So who else just got that email...good thing I edited that 1500 word essay down to 2496 characters then saved it.

If you wish to resubmit your essay adjusting for the correct word limit we invite you to do so. There is no requirement to resubmit. To resubmit your essay, please respond to this email and attach your essay as a word document and we will replace the current essay with the new one. The essay may not exceed 2,000 words. If you are satisfied with your current essay there is no need to respond. Resubmissions will be accepted until a deadline August 6, 2014 at 8 a.m."

There is no preference in terms of the timing of the interview.

I just highly recommend that everyone finish all of their secondaries as timely as possible. Figure out a good balance between quality and time spent on the essay in order to give yourself the best chance possible.
 
Anyone else notice the CU-UNITE essay asks for 6500 characters but the limit is 7500? I could have sworn it said 7500 before...
 
So my secondary was submitted on July 25th, however it still says "your app has been received, we will begin processing it once the payment is received".... Have yalls changed to complete yet? Should i call to see if the payment went through?
 
Mine says the same thing and I'm on FAP.

I have FAP, and the status hasn't changed for me. It does say it could take 7-10 business days to process.

I paid the fee on 7/22 and nothing has changed for me status wise. It just says they've received my application and will begin processing once payment is verified

CU does not let you reclassify. Your status on day one is locked in for the four years.

Also, to answer a common question from last year, expressing interest in the Colorado Springs campus does not affect your chances for acceptance. They accept all students on the same criteria. Once accepted, you are considered for the extension campus.

This seemed to surprise quite a few OOS people I met at interviews last cycle.

It's still an amazing school but "CU-Denver" is more than misleading imo

Hi all, is it possible to get a secondary before the AMCAS app is verified? IS applicant.
 
Wrote my secondary, went to submit, and they lost my essay. Wow, just wow. Should have used word
 
What did you guys call the school in your secondary essays? I've been using the "University of Colorado School of Medicine", but would it be okay to abbreviate? I used CU School of Medicine or CUSOM in an earlier draft, but I felt like it looked tacky 😵
 
Got my status page updated yesterday, says my app is under review- has anyone gotten an interview date yet?

Yeah theres essentially nothing. There are mainly news articles that repeat the same information.

I interviewed here last year. Basically, if you are admitted into the Colorado Springs program, you will do most of your 3rd and 4th year rotations in Colorado Springs at a community hospital rather than the university hospital in Aurora. The upside as it was presented to us, was that because it is not a teaching hospital, you will have a lot more direct exposure to the attendings and perhaps have more involvement in patient care, treatment and procedures.

Also, at least last year, they allowed applicants to change their campus preference after the interview date. And they did make clear that acceptances were in no way based upon what you choose.

I'm trying to find more information about the medical school. I'm trying to find out what makes the school "unique". I've gone through the MD program webpage and the most information that I have found is about their mandatory research project done during year 4. There is an optional research track to enroll in during year 1 too. There are a few global health programs mentioned as well.

It has been quite a search through their site, is there a simple viewbook somewhere that I am missing?
