"During your interview day you can share updates with your interviewers. Bring two copies, one for each interviewer. Please bring all updates in a sealed envelope and submit them to your interviewer upon completion of the interview. These updates will subsequently be shared with the Admissions Committee on the day of your interview."

Would a letter with a little blurb about a new job I got be appropriate for this?

Of Course! I am planning on giving them an update on a job that I had just started when I submitted my AMCAS application. I think that anything that might enhance your application would be acceptable here.

At the interview they actually said they don't accept them and that the statement is outdated. They think that updates make an uneven playing field since people interview at different points. You can try, but that is what they told me.

Do you have MSAR? If you do you can see the breakdown of applicants (IS and OOS), interviews (IS and OOS), and matriculants (not acceptances). But in short claduva91 is correct, its roughly 50%.

The information is on USNews! I imagine it is mostly accurate.

That was my experience when I interviewed there last year. One of my interviewers challenged every answer I gave him. I was definitely in the minority as most people had very relaxed conversational interviews. This time around my interviews were very mellow.

Also, if this person is really your friend it's probably okay to ask about their gender if you're unsure.
 
Excited to receive an II this afternoon! I'm OOS, Lizzy M ~ 73, under review status on 8-11. They offered me the Halloween date! It's appropriate to wear a costume to a med school interview if it's on Halloween, right? Especially if I go as a surgeon?
 
To anyone who has requested a new interview date, about how long did it take for the Admissions Office to call/email?

I think they called about a week later, maybe 5 days. They were really nice.
 
Does anyone know what percentage of OOS interviewed candidates are accepted (vs matriculated)? Received an II last week OOS and really like this school but MSAR statistics for OOS don't look too promising 🙁

168/347 accepted, so almost 50%!

That's just about 3-4 acceptances per matriculant seat for OOS. They could have a low OOS matriculation rate and thus rely on a lot of OOS acceptances to fill their 50ish OOS seats.

edit to add: @claduva94 beat me to it, I would agree, low OOS matriculation rate is probably due to high OOS COA.

-From the website it sounds like all interviewers are given your file (minus MCAT and GPA). Had your interviews checked out your file pretty thoroughly or did questions begin pretty general, e.g. "Tell me about yourself.."

-Should you expect ethics and healthcare policy related questions (I'll be prepared either way, just curious)?

-Anyone willing to share tough/off-the-wall questions they experienced?

-The website mentions a meet and greet the evening before for the RURAL Track, is there anything similar for the CU-UNITE Track?

To be honest the interview was very laid back. The two people who interviewed me, one a current student and another faculty, really just wanted to get to know me better, can't say I had a question I was thrown off by or considered off the wall. Hope they aren't too tough on OOS applicants, really loved the school

I agree that the interviews were pretty laid back. One of my interviewers had obviously read through my file carefully and had written notes/questions in the margins alongside my essays, but my other interviewer seemed to ask more generic questions.

Some of the questions they asked were behavior-based, similar to what you would see in a job interview (e.g., "Give me an example of a time you had to respond to criticism..."). I didn't really get any ethical questions. One of my interviewers asked me to discuss the benefits and potential consequences of limiting work hours during residency training, but that was about the most "off-the-wall" question I felt like I received.

The informal meet-and-greet the evening before the interview was hosted by current students. I believe that everyone that interviewed was invited, not just those interested in the rural track, and there were some CU-UNITE students there that were able to answer questions about the track.
 
How long did it take to complete after submitting payment and secondaries? It's been almost 10 days for me now...

Hey, current MS-2 here. Obviously it's been a couple years since I went through the interview process but just wanted to share. During my interviews I felt both my interviewers (one current student and one clinical faculty member) had a very good knowledge of my file and had read through everything except my grades. I DID, however have a couple hard questions: I was asked about my opinions on both abortion and healthcare reform. A couple other kids on my interview day were asked some pretty rough questions on euthanasia. So I would certainly be prepared for it.

That being said, the majority of the interviews were super relaxed and fun. And I (obviously) got accepted, as did my friend who was asked about euthanasia. SO I think they really just want to see that you've thought about it and/or can think on your feet. And if you don't get in right away, don't lose hope: they made me wait over two months before accepting me!

Just another little plug for the school, I absolutely love it. The faculty are great, Denver Health/Children's and the preceptorship programs are excellent, and I've already gotten a lot of opportunities that I'm not sure I would've gotten at the other schools I was considering. Plus I got 30 days of skiing last year. Good luck to all with the interview/application process!
 
My interviewer knew my application inside and out - it was highlighted and side notes made the paper bleed. My second interviewer even brought in the book which I took a quote from (thankfully cited).

If you get weird questions, don't fret. I went home thinking I was certainly rejected (1st interviewer raised an eyebrow when I said I am not concerned about family life for a while, and the 2nd interviewer and I talk about animals the entire time after I failed to answer his bizarre medically related question).

I was actually ramping up my application for next season when they called/accepted me.

How long did it take for your acceptance? Were you on the waitlist for awhile?

4 hours... I left campus at 3 pm, was called at 7 pm - mid to late January interview.

Was not on waitlist ^

I have heard the waitlist here is extremity frustrating. We have a new dean this year so let's see how that goes.
 
I interviewed on 9/26 and am just now remembering I never sent in the Colorado Springs interest letter...don't know how I forgot but anyone have any ideas how this will affect my application?? Pretty disappointed in myself right now considering CUSOM is my top choice and the only school i've interviewed at so far...think its worth it to give them a call?

They made it clear that your Colorado Springs stuff only comes into play after you have been accepted. If you're interested, go ahead and send it to admissions. If not, then don't worry about it.

I don't think the letter is imperative to the application. That being said, I would fax it in right now!

I had no problem giving update letters to both of my interviewers. I wasn't sure if they would pass them on to the adcom, but they told me they would definitely take a look at them, because they were interested. Also, just to be safe, I mentioned both of my new updates in the interview. "Tell me about yourself". Ok...I'm working this job and doing this research right now. Boom. Done.

Also, I felt like both interviews were very laid back and painless. I think people get "stress interviews" if you say something silly in your PS or elsewhere that you can't back up.

I remember him saying something about that, but I took it as meaning they don't accept anything else after your interview day. So you can't email them updates, etc.

He said that. But then he elaborated to me that "we used to let you give interviewers an update in a sealed envelope but we don't anymore."
