2014-2015 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can anyone offer insight on the type of ethical/ "what would you do..." questions that were asked?
I wasn't really asked any ethical questions during my UIC interview. I was asked what I thought the biggest challenge in healthcare is today and I was also asked what I thought about Ebola. Warning: someone was asked what the most recent medical journal they read was, and I definitely breathed a sign of relief that I didn't get that question. I would have had no clue since the last medical journal I read was NOT within the last year!!!

One of my interviewers asked me that question... I told her I haven't read any. It's such a strange question.

For anyone wondering about the CBC/immunizations who was accepted...
EDIT: I reread the offer letter and saw that the criminal background check (CBC), immunizations, etc. information will be sent at a later time. I guess it's too early to get that information yet.... (this is in response to questions I saw earlier about the CBC e-mail which I never got and the Hep B form which I also haven't received after getting my campus assignment).

Congratulations!!! When did you receive the site preference card, and how soon did you mail it back? I'm surprised you got the placement letter 4 days after the acceptance letter.
Thank you!! I received the site preference card with the acceptance letter and returned it to the admissions office in person the same day. That may have sped things up a bit, but I was still pleasantly surprised at how quickly the placement letter arrived, too!

I interviewed on the 18th of November.
TREDWISE, have you seen a change in your status? When I interviewed on Friday (12/12), I was told that the adcom was still meeting this coming Thursday but that due to winter break there would be no one to send the letters until they come back in January. I'm wondering if that also means there's no one to update our statuses either...

Good luck with everything! I hope you hear good news soon!

That's wonderful! It seems like last year's class wasn't so lucky, and some of them were waiting months after their acceptances to receive the site pref card in the mail.

Nope mine still says decision pending. I hope they get back to us soon but we'll see.

Congrats! I interviewed around the same time in Chicago but still no change. Also, great username, Bob 😉

Adcom meets tomorrow!!!! For those accepted, how long after the adcom meeting until you saw the additional correspondence tab and final decision made on your status???

I accepted my offer over a month ago but I haven't heard any confirmation about site preference. Is this normal?

Does anyone know if there's an accepted group for the incoming class yet? Also, does anyone know if they'll be sending us a packet with whatever else we have to do as accepted students?... or does that not come until later in the spring?

So has there been any rejections here yet? I'm still "applicant in progress." I'm assuming this means they've passed me over since I've been complete late August and I can't imagine that they haven't gotten to my application yet. Does anyone know if they do silent rejections or if they're just teasing us at this point?

Earlier in the thread there were a few people (not many) that said they had been rejected.

they dont do silent rejections. i was rejected OOS about 2 weeks ago. but it was via snail mail. no email or status change notice. I havent checked my online portal since then to see if it changed the same weeK I received the letter

Go way back in the thread. If you are rejected, the portal will say something like "Final Decision Made" and then you get the snail mail rejection. Unless @miszfifi820 had a different experience.

i just checked my portal and it said 'a final decision was made on 11/21...' so im guessing I received the mail shortly after that (i didnt check my portal often)

interviewed 12/12 and still decision pending...still in the waiting game!

This has probably been asked 100 times before but does the additional correspondence tab basically mean you are in??

12/4 over here! Maybe next month 🙂

Did anyone that interviewed in December get the additional correspondences tab?

Who is willing to ask them whether they are waiting until January to mail out decisions?

Can those who got accepted list their MCAT and GPA? OOS or IS? Research and whether you were published and your other ECs
Thanks

Assuming "additional correspondence" means accepted ... 35, 3.87 IS..... yes research ..... and yes published but not first author (yet). Illinois (UIUC) alum.

3.6 gpa, 29 MCAT, lots of work in clinics, yes research but no publications, URM... I think I'm IS but it's a little complicated

Well, I got the 'additional correspondence' tab. I'm hopeful.

3.48gpa
35 MCAT
EMT for 5 years
CNA for 7 years
No research

Just out of curiosity, how do they make decisions about which campus you're at? I know you fill out a preference card, but from there do they do a lottery or is it first come, first serve?

3.95 GPA, 37 MCAT, 2 years of research but no publications, very involved in my community, IS
