If you are an out of state student, please explain your interest in attending the University of Louisville School of Medicine:

How well did your high school prepare you for college?

What determined your choice of college(s)?

How do you assess your college record?

Please describe any circumstances adversely affecting your academic performance.

Please discuss your research experience, including any publications and/or curriculum vitae.

What determined your choice of college(s)? (Maximum of 500 characters)

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

Good luck to everyone applying this cycle! If you have any questions, I'm a current MS2 and I'd be happy to help.

we need to get this thread live and help each other through this stressfull application process

OOS applying here! Very excited about this school. Hope to get some OOS love! :xf:

Apply early! I think that's the biggest reason I received an interview here, and on the first interview date, last summer. Fell in love with UofL. Good luck!

In state. 3.85 science gpa. 26 mcat. URM. 2 years of research with lots of clinical related extracurricular activities. I think i have a good chance. What do you think?

I know a few guys that have gotten into UL these past few years with your numbers. Just get everything in early and you have a GREAT shot!

I'm applying here this cycle. I'm really excited about this school! Are there any current medical students willing to dish out some secondary/interview advice?

thanks.gives me great hope!!... everything should be complete middle July except for my LOR. But i was told that UofL gives out interviews even before they get LOR. Is this true?

I'm not quite sure about that. Have you looked at their site/last year's thread?

Also, you only said one LOR. UL requires 3 - 2 science (BCP but not Math) and 1 non-science.

I am OOS and REALLY want to get in here.

I am submitting this week, but they have to wait for my mcat. Does anyone know how much harder it is for OOS students? I know they do not take as many.

Well, according to MSAR, they only interviewed about 130 out of 2732 OOS applicants (4.7%) and only 40 of them were accepted... So its safe to assume that you should try to aim for numbers nearing 90th percentile MCAT/GPA (34/3.96) if you want a good shot.

I'd say if you have a 3.8+ GPA and a 33+ MCAT, then you have good chance for an interview.

UK takes more OOS applicants, but their numbers are significantly higher. Most OOS applicants I have seen that get in have 3.8+ GPA and 35+ MCAT.

(I am not actually from KY, but I am considered in-state ,and I know quite a few people from UK/UL both UG and MS)

Yeah i didnt mean to say one... but i called the office of admissions and the woman i spoke to told me that i should not worry about getting my LOR in too early because they offer interviews without having LOR

I can vouch for that. I received an interview last summer and still had one LOR outstanding at that time. You'll be fine. Good luck!

What does this mean??? Like how do I assess my academic success?

Has anyone received a secondary?

Yeah, I got the secondary yesterday. It's kind of annoying. You have to enter your prerequisites and ECs (including high school) all over again.

Friend of mine got in last cycle with 3.8 GPA and a 30 MCAT OOS. I don't think they necessarily require higher stats for OOS applicants... I think what it really comes down to is state ties to Kentucky and how likely you are to go to their school if they accept you... If you have a 33+ MCAT and a 3.8+ GPA applying to UofL from an obscure state no where near Kentucky with no state ties it just screams "last resort backup".

So my boyfriend lives in Louisville, and we will probably be getting engaged pretty soon so I LOVE visiting, and I would LOVE to live in that area. We've been together for almost 8 years so it's actually reasonable IMO.

How do I show them that without them rolling their eyes at the idea that it's "all for a boy?" We've been together for almost 8 years so it's actually reasonable IMO.

I'm an OOS reapplicant (3.6 GPA, 33 MCAT) at Louisville. My sister is a lawyer in town, and I noted that in my secondary. That's probably what caused them to send me an II the first time, and I hope they will do it again. I think if you have decent stats and phrase your answer to the "Why Louisville?" question in your secondary in a reasonable manner, you'll get an II too. Anybody else have an opinion on this?

Anyone else having some problems with the secondary site? I'm literally finished, but I can't submit because my requests keep "timing out".

Well, I'm not sure what your friend's story is, but I'm just offering my opinions. Also, I don't think that 33+ MCAT and a 3.8+ GPA screams last resort back-up. Like you said, state ties are really important in getting through the process, but those aren't stellar stats, they are around the national median for matriculants. If the applicant had 36+ on his/her MCAT, that would be a different story, but being within the top 10 percentile of a school won't convey that feeling... Initially.

But yes, for a school like UL, the important thing is connection to the state, not your scores.

EDIT: Well, 33 may be high. I'd say 31+ would be a good range.

Just submitted the secondary... I have to say that they asked too many questions, asked for too much info (which they already have access to) and had too many technical problems on the site (I was basically finished two days ago, but it took me until today to submit because the tabs didn't work).

At least the fee wasn't too bad - 75 buckz.

I hear that. High school activities? Why do you want me to list my high school activities? Are you seriously going to factor in my participation in the drama club 10 years ago into your decision to admit or reject me? Gawsh..........

submitted secondary on thursday... how long till we hear back from them and when do they start offering interviews?

I don't remember off hand, but I think they tell us somewhere in the timeline found in the secondary.

Aww man I was verified 6/16 and still haven't recieved anything 🙁

Does anyone know if Louisville screens their applicants before offering secondaries?

If our lab was included with the lecture course, how did you guys indicate that? or did you just separate them into lab and lecture?

Does anyone know if Louisville screens their applicants before offering secondaries?

yea, they do. they look at your application holistically before sending secondaries

I just received one yesterday, I am OOS as well. Seeing as they screen I will fill it out. I am not strong in the numbers, however I am non trad, and have 5+ years of nursing experience, and a ton of volunteer hours (not on purpose, didn't know I would be trying to do) Verified since 6/14 or something like that. Sounds like UoL might be looking for more than just numbed.

Can someone post the questions/essay prompts? Applying OOS and really hoping for some love.

OOS verified at 2:15pm today, received secondary at 3:30 eastern. Hopeful to get an interview and meet some of you guys

OOS Verified 07/10. Received Secondary this morning at 11:37 EST 🙂 Hope to see y0u all 🙂

Anyone have any thoughts on the activities section- are they looking for us to repeat our AMCAS app, provide new descriptions, or provide whole new activities completely?

I've been wondering the same thing. Hopefully someone knowledgable gives us a response.

No problem man, here are the prompts (500 char each):

If you are an out of state student, please explain your interest in attending the University of Louisville School of Medicine:

How well did your high school prepare you for college?

What determined your choice of college(s)?

How do you assess your college record?

Please describe any circumstances adversely affecting your academic performance.

There might be one more question, but I didn't save it, I have a paragraph that I wrote about how I came to want to go into medicine.

Stupid question but, they are talking about our undergrad college choices right? Not where we are applying now?
