2014-2015 University of Maryland Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On hold too. Darn! I'm hoping it's just a "once dates open up we'll call you" type of thing.

It's an automated status so it might not actually be under review.

To answer you both, the time to hear back can vary. Last year I submitted early august and I got a hold for interview email in November. I never got an interview. This year I submitted at the same time and got an II mid October. Typically, the later it is in the year the more backed up schools get so it takes longer to hear back.

^This is what I found from the last years thread 🙁

Just wanted to confirm that you guys were placed on hold pre-interview? I'm in-state and still hoping for some interest here!

Another pre-interview hold. Kiss of death? I'm thinking probably... 🙁

So I didn't receive a hold, IS, complete some time ago. Is this a bad sign? I feel like I'm going to have a rejection letter in the mail tomorrow or something.

Reading last years thread, it seems a few people got interviews who were put on hold pre-(American)thanksgiving, so there is still hope! Seems they sent updates so maybe that helped.

On hold- no II, I wanted to write an update letter. Do I send it via email or physical letter to the admissions office? Help is greatly appreciated 🙂

Hey, I interviewed that day with you. I'm sorry to hear about the waitlist 🙁 I hope it moves along quickly!
Thanks! We'll see once an official update comes out in May. Hopefully you hear good news soon!

I don't know if they're receptive to pre-interview updates, but my wait list letter says updates can either be mailed in or emailed. Best of luck!

Interviewed week of 10/27-10/29. MCAT 30+/GPA 3.85+. Will almost definitely matriculate here. If anyone is looking for a flatmate, PM me.

Congrats! did you get an email that a letter was sent, just a letter, phone call?

aaaand we're on to december.
on a side note, which hotels did you guys find was good to stay at?

Does this school provide merit-based scholarships?

Does this school provide merit-based scholarships?

On my interview day, they said during the financial aid presentation that everyone is given $5,000 toward the Coa. Then once they get your fasfa, they decide how to disperse loan money and recruitment money.

Does anyone know if this year has a higher than usual amount of applicants?

are we to call the office if we do not hear from them 6 weeks after interview? it seems most people heard within 4 weeks of their interview. I am coming up on the 6 week mark, has anyone else waited this long?

Placed on hold pre-interview. Hoping for some love eventually, but not too optimistic 🙁

Can you clarify what "recruitment money" is? Is that merit aid used to lure accepted students from other schools?

I got my decision letter after 6 wks + 1 day after my interview.
When I emailed the office exactly after 6 wks, they told me to wait 6-8 wks.
Hope this helps - good luck!

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor. They have a discount if you tell them that you're interviewing at the school! It was really convenient, just a two minute walk to the campus. Ubers are also really convenient in Baltimore if you need to/want to take a car there

Does anyone know if February interviews are just for the waitlist?
Also, does anyone know the number of accepted students as of now?

Feb interviews were not for the waitlist last year but each year is different. That being said with rolling admissions, bring your A game!

Have they been for waitlist spots for any of the previous years?

Just wanted to post the Class of 2015 Profile for interested folks (it's in the booklet if you've interviewed). Hope it's helpful for people who have yet to hear back.

Just got placed on hold 🙁 Super bummed because this is one of my favorite schools. Definitely plan on sending an update but do we have any statistics on the likelihood of being offered an interview after being placed on hold?

I got placed on hold too! 🙁 I was also wondering what that means and what the chances are for us.
Hey, at least it's not a rejection!

Hey all, currently UMD student here. Just wanted to pop in and say Congrats to those who are accepted and good luck to all those interviewing. Let me know if you have any questions about the school. I'm not involved in the admissions process so I won't be able to shed light on "how likely am I to get off the waitlist/ get an interview/ get an acceptance/ etc". I've been around here for a bit so I should be able to give some insight into classes, rotations, facilities, the hospitals, and the day-to-day life. Be forewarned, I'm a bit bad about checking SDN but I'll try to monitor this thread.
