what do you mean?

It looks like Rochester is fairly quick with getting back to people who they want to interview. Rejections don't officially go out until after October 15th though.

Oh i see, when was your submission date?

complete July 15...waiting for a rejection i guess

Meh, same here. Waiting for rejection.

Complete 7/17

I don't know anything about the internal workings of the admissions office, but it seems improbable that they've already reviewed every application they've received up through the 22nd and have made final decisions on all of them. I'd be surprised if that was the case, anyway. Maybe some app reviewers are faster than others, which is why people complete later are getting news than those complete earlier. I have no idea. But I don't think that everyone who hasn't heard anything is out of the running. Don't lose hope!

lol it amazes me how many people think they are "rejected" simply because they haven't received an II yet. Chill out and be patient. Even if they already reviewed your application, you are more likely to get an II later than immediately, if you get one at all.

Seriously. We've got some real Debbie Downers on this page.

Hey Gloomy people! I was complete at Rochester last year on 7/17. Without sending them an update, I got an II on 10/24. So you're never out until they say you're out.

Yea, I agree with sunflower18 and. It's more likely that they simply have a tier system for reviewing apps than if they have gone through every app to date. Hang in and keep your head up! There's still plenty of time to hear back.

Also- I'm pretty sure Rochester heavily emphasizes the interview day. Often they'll give acceptances within 2 weeks of the interview if they see you as a good fit. Regardless of the interview date.

My philosophy is that once it's submitted, there is not reason to fret until I actually hear back some form of information. Once it's out of my hands it's out of my hands. If that means waiting an extra day, week or month so be it. I'll save my sorrow for if I actually see the rejection letter.

Has anyone visited Rochester before? How is the city? What is the school like?

This is a nice place to start: https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/education/md/documents/bluebook.pdf but here's my take:

Grew up there, born at Strong Hospital. Overall it's small but nice. Difficult to get around much without a car, but U of R has shuttles. Some parts of the city struggle with a lot of problems (violence, poverty, poor schools), but there's a lot of nice areas. Decent minor league teams (baseball, hockey, mens and womens soccer, laccrose) that are cheap, plenty of good concerts, etc. Summer is packed with random festivals, with jazz fest and the lilac fest being the major ones. And the lakes in the area are nice once it warms up a bit. Lots of restarants, a great public market, and several breweries.

3 things good things: Wegmans, Garbage plates, and the Buffalo Bills.

3 things bad things: winter, RIP kodak, poor public transit.

Must do's: Jazz fest, lilac fest, dinosaur BBQ, finger lakes, Watkins glen, wine trail, geva theater, Rochester philharmonic orchestra, nick tahoes

Hello everyone! 🙂 I am new to SDN. Congrats to everyone receiving IIs!! And good luck to everyone else...STAY POSITIVE 🙂

I am interviewing here early September!! Hoping my interview goes well...I really like this school!

Just got an II here (my first!). I noticed my e-mail said "Regular Interview Invite." Made me wonder if there are other II types besides regular. Does anyone know if Rochester gives out multiple types of IIs?

Nope. I got an interview a while back and it said that too. Only other thing I could think of would be an early decision interview but i'm not even sure they do those.

Can anybody comment on the time Interview day is over? I am most likely scheduling my flight back home at 5:10 pm and wanted to make sure I will make it on time. I would have to be at the airport 30 mns before the flight...Do interviews really end at 4:30 pm?
Would it be bad if I check the "do you need to leave before 4:30 pm" option?

Thank youuuuu!

Yeah don't do that. You need to be at the airport far sooner than that, too.

I have a flight scheduled for 6:30 pm and the airport is right next to it too. I'm hoping that should be enough time to make my flight! I didn't state I needed to leave before 4:30pm but I am planning to ask them if I can leave my belongings in the admissions office.

I will be flying up there the night before my interview (early/mid september). PM me your interview date if you are interested in grabbing dinner the night before to relax for hopefully an awesome interview the next day!! 🙂

Does anyone have suggestions on what to do for a full day in Rochester or a good area to go on a long (10ish miles) run? I'm flying in on Saturday night for a Monday interview.

Campus run would be nice, especially along the river.

Head downtown. Unfortunately the jazz fest is over now though

Anyone interviewing on the first day and want to meet up pre-interview for dinner the night before? PM me, though it's a long shot because I think there are only 5 of us...

How long does it take for them to mark letters as received?

This might be a stupid question, but if I've volunteered (medical) abroad independently (as in I went by myself, not in a group) but through a program established in that country, does that qualify as having participated in an "international medical volunteer program or international mission/service activity"...?

I would definitely consider that as international volunteer!! 🙂

at least Rochester has you fill out the "secondary essays" after you get an interview.... although I'm really burning low on my essay writing stamina:hungover:

I really can't do it anymore either... Haha must push through!

If you get an interview, you have to answer ~4 short essays that are due a week before your interview day.

seriously... I'm afraid in the interview I will be so burned out of these questions that I will just be like... "Will you just read the application and accept me already?"
