2014-2015 University of Tennessee Health Science Center Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I still haven't heard anything, so I think hold may be the waitlist. I should have gotten something if they sent out holds for all people still needing a decision over the holidays. On the plus side, if that's what a hold means, you all are technically accepted...just awaiting a spot. That's a weak silver lining, I guess.

To those of you who have been accepted, did you go ahead and pay the application fee/make an account/submit the EVEA?

I have not yet, but I'm still riding my acceptance emotion from last week. I am planning on doing it after New Years

Interviewing here next Monday. Any advice from anyone that has already had an interview this cycle? Any pointed questions like some schools or was it more laid back? Thanks!

;] Aspiring doc, just make sure you know which is the academic interview and the non academic one. It's formal and non threatening, however the interviewers do a good job at maintaining a neutral countenance :] be yourself.

Hi, I am wondering if anyone interviewed with Dr. Paul Herron before? i am kinda nervous that he is rarely mentioned on this forum. thanx

Pretty sure I had him, if he is the psychiatrist. He's very nice, although I could not read his pa-pa-pa-poker face 😉 Don't worry though. Focus on answering questions well.

So the hotel I where I was going to stay apparently lost my reservation..... Anyone have any good suggestions that are decently close but don't cost an arm and a leg? Seems like most of the ones they recommend are pretty pricey. Any of them do discounts? Thanks!!!

Super 8 in west Memphis is cheap and you can book it for like 58$ on Orbits. 10 minutes away.

Does anyone think we will hear after them meeting Jan 16? Is it a letter or email?

I think it's always a letter or a phone call (WL at the end). However, I don't know if we will receive a second email saying something is coming. Has anyone received any emails since Friday?

Nope. Wondered the same thing myself. I'm assuming that those of us under review for the second time would not receive another email if a decision is made, since the email was for the survey, and we already received that.
Under that assumption, if we receive an email saying something is on the way, it's probably an acceptance letter. If we don't hear anything, it's most likely that we will have to fight our way up the WL in May. May the odds be forever in your favor.

Does anyone know if we would be notified by phone call or mail if we are accepted off the hold list?

Got my letter today. I'm a new addition to the HOLD list. Le sigh. It's purgatory. The waitlist before the waitlist. But I've heard an acceptance letter is thick, so I was really discouraged when I got a skinny letter. I was happy to be on hold after that long walk back from the mailbox.

The acceptance letter also has "This is a notice of acceptance" in big fat font on the envelope. I spent about 15 minutes working up the courage to open it only to turn it over an see that plastered all over it.

Anyone from previous cycles of interviews hear anything? Anyone from hold get accepted?

I had 3 friends who were accepted off the hold list last year. I wouldn't worry about it. I feel like worst case you're put high on the waitlist.

Thanks for your comfort, man. It's just hard with the uncertainty, and not knowing where your fiance should apply to teach because you won't know where you are living, you know?

That's tough man. I really hope you hear some good news soon.

Is anyone on this thread (accepted or still waiting) either married and/or a parent? I am married and have a two year old and will probably be starting at UTHSC in the fall. Looking for anyone with a similar experience.

No but I have several friends in the same situation. Plus I'll be married in June

man I feel you're pain. I'm in a very similar situation. I hope we hear something soon.

Were they eventually wait listed before being accepted or not?
That I'm not sure about. I think one was for sure waitlisted and accepted off the waitlist. I want to say the other two were accepted later in the cycle...

Same. One kiddo and married. I'm on hold right now.

How do you guys plan on making time for spouse/children in med school? I'm still debating whether my partner should move with me as I'm worried I won't have time for that let alone a kid...

The best answer I can give is just to make the most of my time. It's certainly a concern, but I was working full time and in night school for premed courses when she was born so I have had a similar experience. It's worth the investment in the future, and when you have a family you learn the importance of focusing and prioritizing.

I got a secondary in September, but I haven't heard a peep since. After hearing about how some of you all are married/have kids, I'm wondering if my age is hurting me with UTHSC. I'll still be 21 when medical school starts in the fall.

Make sure your grades are a priority, but when it's family time, make it focused family time. I plan on allotting either all Saturday or all Sunday to them without thought of school unless something is really urgent. Check out Student Doctor Thompson on YouTube. He has a video about family that is pretty helpful.

anyone who is on hold hear back yet

Not a thing. Hopefully when the mail comes today.

Hoping for good news every Tuesday!

I will say I'm disappointed my IS schools aren't taking care of me. I've been accepted OOS yet nothing back from UT or Quillen

Placed on hold on 12/20, just got an acceptance letter today!!!
Congrats! That's when I got my hold letter too. I live in Jackson so mail usually runs one day out of Memphis. Going to check the mail now and thinking good thoughts..

Just checked and nothing here. Guess I'll have to wait some more.

Congrats man! Hope to see you in August.

I was wondering about if anyone got a confirmation email also after they sent in their EVEA (Eligibility form or whatever it's called). It was attached to the NetID email.

So it seems they mail out on Mondays. I guess that means anyone out of the Memphis area receives on Wednesdays (am I right in supposing this?)

I was also placed on hold after that 12/19 meeting.

Whoa, someone accepted off of hold? I hope you're not the only one! That's awesome man.
