2014-2015 University of Texas Southwestern Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm calling if I don't get it on Monday because I'm going to be out of town/away from my mailbox from Tuesday-Sunday next week and don't want to miss any deadlines.

I don't know if you had this option in your acceptance email, but last year they put some text in there to the effect of "if you would prefer to receive your acceptance form electronically, please reply to this email." You should be good asking for the form on digits if you want to get it signed and returned right away. Nothing like getting that letter in the mail though!!! Congrats to all of you 🙂

I don't think the email I received had that option, since it only listed my home address and stated that a letter would be mailed, but an electronic system would be very nice! And thank you!

The same here.

Just got my letter today in the mail. The date to return to Dec 5, it can also be faxed or scanned/e-mailed, or you can e-mail Anne if you need more time.

Thanks for the notification! I get back from Thanksgiving Break on November 30, so I should be fine to get it in. I'll probably scan it to be safe!

Congrats to everyone who pre-matched!

And to those who didn't hear back, I wouldn't worry just yet. I think out of my circle of friends here (most of whom were definitely more qualified than me), I was the only one who actually heard back on the first day of pre-match.

As always, I'll be happy to answer any questions you guys have as you're figuring out your match lists.
Where do most first years live? How important is it to live near campus? Thanks!!

I believe you can park in the parking lot on campus. You probably do not want to live one hour away......

There are at least half a dozen apartment complexes within 5 minutes of campus, with 3-4 likely to be open by the time the new school year rolls around. I think most people live in one of those complexes their first year.

I don't think it's important to live near campus, but it's awfully convenient. I'm a fan of spending as little time driving as possible, but I know of a few people who chose to live at home to save money or closer to downtown for the environment and were willing to make the 20-30 minute daily commute. Either way works, just depends on how you value time vs. convenience vs. finances vs. personal preference.

Is acceptance of the offer binding? I'm sure many people are still waiting for AMCAS decisions.

So tomorrow is the day, we suspect?

I think so, but I'm expecting the worst 🙁

Based on last year's thread, the majority of people who pre matched on the 25th interviewed in November and simply didn't have the opportunity to prematch when the committee met for the first round of decisions.

If we still haven't received the mailed letter, would contacting Anne McLane be a good idea at this point?

No, I don't think you should count yourself out. Keep your hopes up. According to last year's thread, there were a few people who pre-matched on the 15th that interviewed in early November (all the way up until the 9th). This tells me that the November interviewees that didn't make the first batch were probably re-evaluated, as we will be, for the second batch on the 25th. I also think that there were several October dates that received acceptances with the second batch.

Good thing I was a September interviewee, huh? +pity+

Should I be looking for an acceptance in my email or mail? I don't remember receiving any email asking whether I'd rather receive it electronically or in the mail.

So, no news on the potential Nov. 25th prematches? Did anyone get an email?

No news, from what I can tell! It looks like we're venturing through new territory. 🙁 I will now be unable to look away from my email.

I guess they say no news is good news, right?

I just called Admissions to see if they would be willing to divulge any nitty gritty details.
  1. Are more pre-match bundles coming, and if so, when?
    • "Each year, the Admissions Committee designates pre-match days as they see fit and are not bound by any standardized schedule. As to whether they will have another pre-match release, it is likely but not guaranteed. But if it happens, no one knows when until very soon prior to the release." I got the sense that the Admissions committee is not vocal about its process and anything can happen. And once the committee makes its decision to release more pre-matches, it happens very soon without time for us nosey kids to speculate.
  2. This year, will a larger portion of students pre-match than match or vice-versa?
    • "Only the Admissions committee knows. And it is difficult to say since pre-match season has not yet ended. There is really no telling until it is all said and done."
They were very kind and helpful on the phone. But the conclusion seems to be that they simply don't know. (Or won't tell us, haha)

I think that the person I was speaking with was only being careful. From her tone, I understood another pre-match to be "very likely" rather than simply "likely." But that is big time speculation.

That sounds better!

All this stressing out is really going to cause me to eat even more this break!

I do remember that one of the deans mentioned multiple batches of pot match and very few match during our interview day. She did not indicate how many batches or how many people per batch.
