2014-2015 University of Texas Southwestern Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey guys, long-time SDN reader, but first post. I did some research and found the dates that people from current and past UTSW application threads have reported receiving prematches.

2014-2015: 11/15, 11/26, ... ?
2013-2014: 11/15, 11/25, 12/31
2012-2013: 11/15, 12/6, 12/7, 12/8, 12/14
2011-2012: 11/15, 11/23, 12/3, 12/12, 12/16
2010-2011: 11/15, 12/13, 12/14, 12/15, "several days" before 12/22
2009-2010: 11/13, 12/21

According to some SDNers, there are meetings on Thursdays to discuss candidates. Also, note that over the past 5 years admissions has given out prematches on at least one day in the month of December. Anyway, take it for what it's worth and remember the prematch is just one of several avenues to acceptance.

Does anyone know the acceptance rates for people who already interviewed from out of state? I heard they only interview around 80 OOS. How many of those are accepted?
Texas public schools are legally required to accept 90% in-state applicants, if I remember correctly. So a maximum of 10% (out of 230) are OOS. You're competing with a maximum of 23 spots.

According to USNWR, 2013 saw 98 OOS interviewees with 50 acceptances for UTSW. Just about 1 in 2! Seems about the same post-interview acceptance rate as IS.

For those who interviewed on november 15th, do yall think we missed pre-match and now have to wait for match and the waitlist? it looks as if only one so far has prematched from our interview date, at least only one on here. Or do you think we could still pre match at a later date if they send another batch.

With each pre-match, the admissions committee re-evaluates the entire applicant pool. So, if another pre-match is released, you could definitely be in it.

Prematched 11/15 and still haven't received a letter. Odd...

Really hoping this week is the 2nd round of prematches. Actually any day before my first final would be nice

Do you think we're technically still waiting on the 2nd batch, or is this the 3rd now?

I would email Anne McLane and ask for an extension (this is an option in the letter I received). It probably is hung up in the mailing system. I got mine 4 days ago, and thought that was quite late...

I was also prematched 11/15 and have not received anything...... For those who have received the mail, what is the deadline to sign and send the paper back?

I sent them an email. Not incredibly substantial but just to ask if I needed to do anything. Will update on what they say.

Is it just me, or is the wait killing anyone else?

Yes, plus I feel like the next round of pre-matches is going to happen soon because the first batch has until Dec 5 to accept or decline. So I bet they wait to see how many accept/decline and base the number of acceptances in the next batch off of the number of people that accepted the offer in the first round.

And all of this is making me very unmotivated to study for my finals...

They might be waiting just because it's a significant date but I doubt they're counting on too many people declining their offers. Many will hold on to pre-matches until scholarship information is out and I'm guessing there's quite a few TX residents that will also be waiting to see how well they do with other schools come the spring.

By what day does a Texas resident have to decide on one of the TMDSAS schools if multiple pre-match offers have been received? Or does this automatically happen through the match process?

You don't have to do anything if you choose to keep them all. The match process with drop all your lower ranked ones automatically. However, if you know you don't want to attend a particular school, declining the offer could open interview/pre-match offers to others.

It's actually Jan 21st. That's the date you have to decide upon one prematch offer. You can't have multiple prematch offers on match day.

Ya, you submit rankings on January 21st, but you can still have all your prematch offers in hand when submitting those rankings. Once match day comes around February 2nd you of course end up with your top match (what I interpretted whalewind to mean by if the match process takes care of this).

but actually does anybody have any idea about what grades we need to maintain after prematching? maybe any current students that can shed some light on their biggest drops haha

my friend is very adamant about finding out...

Just don't fail any classes. Even all B's with an odd C is fine.

Probably depends on the school but my offer letter for TAMU said "High Academic Performance (As and Bs)."

Which e-mail address did you send the update letter to?

Thanks!

-Bill

*BUMP*

Not sure whether to send the update letter to the general admissions e-mail address or directly to Anne McLane. Was this discussed at anyone's interview day?

Thank you!

The lack of prematches here is so strange. Is it possible that they've had smaller batches of prematches since November 15, but nobody on this site received any of those, or didnt post about it? Its so unlikely that only 1 person on this website would receive a prematch after nov 15th if they've been continuously sending then out...

The next "big" batch just might be a little later than usual here. I mean, Southwestern only prematches until the 15th which means 5 more days. If they haven't sent out any significant numbers of prematches here since the first night, I bet we'll get another wave in the next 5 days.

If not, well, who knows. Maybe the people in other prematch batches have just happened to not be SDN users. Maybe Southwestern will match more people this year. We'll see.

Where does it say they only pre-match until the 15th?

Historically they've made prematch offers through the 31st.

Expecting the worst..but chin up guys! Baylor is still interviewing AND accepting 😉

Taking bets for when the next batch is sent out. The options are 12/12, 12/15, or other.
