2014-2015 University of Utah Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I already had an interview and I was wondering how the school will update us whether we get accepted or rejected. I know if you're accepted they give you a call but as far as being rejected will they send an email or is it something they post on the student portal? thanks!

Congrats, JackieChan! Has anyone else been interviewed/accepted out of state (non-Idaho) at this point?

Thanks!

They email you if you don't get in! I am pretty sure... But march is when they let most people know so don't worry. 🙂

Interview invite today! Very excited since I have waited so long.

When are they done interviewing? I'm OOS and have been on hold for two-three months...

Have any accepted applicants received the background check information via email yet?
You have to go to the portal (where you sumbmitted your secondary) and there is a "Accepted information" link that will take you all the things needed to be done including the background chek.

Thanks. I did that part already. The website says something will follow via email and I didn't get the email yet.

For any and all question email or call the admissions office, they are SUPER helpful and nice, all of the forms, emails etc take a bit longer to get to you when you get accepted earlier in the year.

Congrats!

Does anyone happen to know how many acceptances have been offered thus far?

@daenschl So it took over a month for your email? The website is unnerving because it says everything must be completed within two weeks! I withdrew an application from another school post-interview and now I'm getting nervous.

Yeah, it took a while, about a month. Don't worry about not getting the email within two weeks! As long as you give them the authorization (I think that's what you had to do on their website) and it says "pending", that is okay. Of course you also have to complete the graduate school application. But don't worry about it! I totally understand how you feel though. I was constantly checking the website and going over it multiple times to make sure everything was okay within the two weeks.

When in doubt or worried, email the admissions office, I promise that won't take back your acceptance for asking too many questions. They are some of the nicest people you can imagine, and they are VERY used to recently accepted students freaking out a bit. Please let me know if you have any questions

122 students in your guys class, 25-35% of acceptances will go out before March. Not sure that helps, but still plenty of time left in the cycle

I have withdrew from my acceptance for another school. I don't know that it was a great fit for me. Good luck to all!

Got the call this morning! Best of luck to everyone still in the running! I am so excited, relieved and just so, so excited!

IS applicant. Above avg GPA, below avg MCAT, above avg everything else. Interviewed Nov

Congratulations! When in November did you interview?

Have any of the accepted students written something in the 'comments' section of the graduate admissions application? (The 'unusual circumstances' or 'additional comments' prompts.) I left it blank. Surely we've written enough essays at this point, right? The way I understood it, the grad application is just for registration and residency purposes. Just making sure I wasn't mistaken!

I filled in the bare minimum. However, if it pertains to residency, you may want to be thorough. This is how they determine if you are a resident for tuition purposes I believe.

I agree with Leslie_Knope. Bare minimum, but really be thorough with the residency stuff. I was not thorough enough at first and was categorized as out-of-state. I had to file an addendum.

Interview invite today. Never on hold.
Originally applied to combined MD/PhD but was rejected from that in November then forwarded to MD only.

I'm IS, interviewed on Nov 21. Above avg GPA, avg MCAT, non-traditional EC's. Dr. Chan gave me feedback on everything but that ethics exam, which was what I was most curious about- how do people think that gets scored?

LOL, I think they probably grade it by you suck, you really suck, you suck considerably worse than your peers 🙂

I almost think they didn't really put much weight on that test, I could be wrong but Dr. Chan didn't mention it to me either. And I feel like I didn't do wonderful haha

I asked the woman who proctors the exam how it is scored and what part it plays in admission and she said it isn't even looked at for admissions purposes. I believe they are just creating an exam key in an agreement with AAMC and we are the gerbils.

In the meeting we had with dr chan (for the students giving the tours) dr chan confirmed that it is part of the process, however he said he couldn't tell how big of an effect it has. My hunch is that it is fairly small/graded generously. As mentioned earlier it is a pilot test basically so I can't imagine it being huge.

Do you really think he would say even if it didnt... Lol

I think he wouldn't confirm it counts if it didn't. If that's what you meant anyway.

The person who wrote the test and made up the questions told me it doesn't.. if Dr. Chan tells anyone that it doesn't count it spreads like wildfire and all his potential test takers then no longer care or take it serious. He's not dumb.

****ty med school srsly dont even bother, the studens were so lame at the interview
