So will only acceptances be sent out this week or will everyone also hear about waitlist/rejection?

Lol @ "the purge"

My biggest fear is the waiting list... I'd rather rejection come now than in July when I'm waiting to know whether I need to move across the country or not.

So is it possibly hurting my chances at the U because I am already accepted to other schools? Or do they only see the multiple acceptance report if they accept me?

They don't know anything until they either accept or waitlist you. If they accept you tomorrow, they will be able to see everywhere you have also been accepted. If they waitlist you tomorrow, I'm not sure when the acceptance report for waitlisted applicants comes out... some adcoms on here have said sometime this month. That is one way schools strategize who they select off the waitlist, by judging their other acceptances they are holding. Ex: if you are holding an acceptance at harvard, ucla, and pritzker, and you are on Utah's wait list, then yes, those other acceptances will probably hurt your chances at Utah because they probably figure you will go to one of those top schools and so they will give an acceptance to someone who they believe will come to Utah. As of right now, they have no clue so nothing is hurting you.

That makes me feel better, thanks for clarifying. I am accepted to MCW, Creighton and SLU. I am not going to go to MCW (but I haven't told them yet, they don't even require a deposit for quite some time as you know), but if I get waitlisted at Utah then I'm probably going to look for housing in Omaha, -sigh-

Yeah as of right now I'm scoping out housing in Miami haha... although I could possibly end up in New York if I get off one of those wait-lists... Miami, New york, utah... basically the 3 extreme ends of the country... just want closure. This ride has been so crazy.

Why would you choose Creighton over MCW? Just curious...

I thought you might ask. I really liked MCW, I had a great time there and I have a friend that is a student there as well. I had this burger in Milwaukee that had a cheese-stuffed deep-fried mushroom on it... nuff said, and the fried cheese, ahhhhh yeah. Anyway, my wife and I decided that if we could choose we would avoid Wisconsin just because the winters are so harsh. I have a friend at Creighton as well and the school was slightly more impressive in terms of its focus on student wellness which I really appreciated. Rankings were considered as well, but I don't put a lot of stock on them personally. I just felt like Creighton was a great place to be, even though the food is not as amazing.

I made a spreadsheet to calculate objective scores of all the schools I'm considering too, because, you know, I'm bored and anxious.

I got an interview at Miami as well, but I rejected it because I don't want to live all the way across the country, even though Miami is temptingggg

dude..... time out. Things just got weird... I also have a friend at MCW who also took me to AJ Bombers where I also had the exact same cheese-stuffed deep-fried mushroom burger when I interviewed there.... :wideyed:

LOL that must be like the one cool thing in Milwaukee. Isn't that burger like BTS tho?! Does your friend's name rhyme with Beve Gelson perchance? We could know the same person, considering we're both from Utah (I assume), it's a small world you know.

Haha name doesn't rhyme with Beve Gelson must not be the same guy. The crazy thing, is they wanted to go to some fish place but I chose AJ Bombers and I randomly chose the cheese-stuffed deep-fried mushroom burger cuz it sounded legit... my MCW friend had never heard of it... :zombie:

Wow, that is quite a bit more random than I expected, ha, man what are the odds of that? I almost chose MCW over all other schools because of AJ Bombers alone. Well, if we both get into Utah, we'll have to reminisce about dat burger sometime. Good luck tomorrow (and possibly Thursday and Friday)!

Confirmed by a friend who works with admissions: 100+ acceptances have been extended so far. There are about 20 that are going to go out some time this week.
Did they tell you that there were still 20ish spots left, or simply that they are over 100?

This may not be super helpful, but the facebook group has 107 members, 5 of which are admin or current student leaders. Though I'm guessing there are a few non-facebookers out there, too.

You would think there would be a ton of waitlist/rejection emails this week...

I was looking at the list and recognized Goldie Kacinski, who works in admissions, and also Matthew Petersen, who is a current first year who gave me the tour on interview day. Also the three admins are on there. So unless you recognized the same five, there are probably more than five non-recently accepted people in the group.

The total number accepted may very well be higher than that, too. I know of at least 1 person who is accepted and does not have Facebook.
And I know of two people accepted who I don't see in the group... odds aren't looking too great, but that's ok

Who is planning on attending Second Look?
I plan to attend the second look day. It is really long and I have something going on that morning so I am hoping they will let me show up midway in (or I am trying to rearrange my schedule).

Hey everyone, I am sorry I haven't posted in here in a long time. I just wanted to give a shout out to all those still waiting. I seriously feel you. I remember being in your boat last year when I was waiting in March and then got put in the waitlist. I am glad to see AAMC has sped things up this year with the new traffic rules. Keep your heads up and try to stay positive! 3 more days right? And if you do get rejected, I would strongly recommend obtaining feedback. It hurts but it is helpful for making your application stronger for the next time around. I think schools (especially the U) love to see that dedication and perseverance.

As for the accepted students, I am planning to be there on the second look. I am excited to meet you all!

Did they give you feedback while you were on the waitlist?

In terms of feedback- I remember the policy is that the school gives feedback if you have been rejected from every school you applied to. I asked to receive feedback last June, when I was officially rejected from the U's wait list.

Also for those accepted asking about second look- did you guys get an email about it? All I get are weekly walk in financial aid appointment emails from the school of medicine...

I think it was posted on the FB page. It's April 24th, I believe. And it is all day plus a family event afterward.

as nyk2014 said, they give feedback when you are rejected from everywhere. once they rejected me off the waitlist they gave me feedback. Although I went to talk to Dr. Chan personally and he started the process earlier i believe than me having to wait.

As for the second look, i got an email like a month ago about it.

Thanks for letting me know. I saw the post on Facebook, but all I see is very brief post: just says the date and RSVP through the portal. I don't see anything in the portal about it either- I'll just wait for the email or something, I was just curious. Thanks a lot though.

I will most likely be attending the Second Look day! Also, has anyone started to work on the scholarship application stuff? There are some that require you to put down your "qualifications." Does anyone know if we are supposed to put down legitimate essays, a paragraph or two, or a few sentences?

Looks like today has been quiet as far as acceptances go...almost too quiet. Is the class full or will the remaining calls go out tomorrow? FB only shows 110 total members.

I didn't know we could RSVP. I better do so. Thanks.

There are probably a few calls that will go out tomorrow. I think it is probably game over for the rest of us though.

To everyone that was accepted somewhere, congrats and good luck. To those still on the grind, I'll see you in a few months.

It has been a privilege applying with you all. 😉

Hahahaha!!! I laughed so hard on the train (Frontrunner) just now when I saw this! I'm right there with you on board, playing the French Horn. It has indeed been a pleasure. Just a few more hours until we finally learn of our fate.

This just got posted on the U of U SOM Admission's page

We have recently concluded our last Selection Committee Meeting. Final offers of acceptances have gone out today, Friday March 13th. We will also be sending emails to those who are on our Alternate and Not Accepted List.

This is a difficult and intense time of the year and unfortunately many applicants will receive news that will be unpleasant.

We have received a record number of applications this year. If you are not accepted, you should not interpret the committee's decision as an indication that you are not qualified to enter medical school and become a good physician. This decision merely reflects the fact that we have more qualified applicants than we do available positions.

We anticipate some changes to the admissions criteria for the 2016 application cycle, so if you would like to reapply you will want to monitor the Admissions website at http://medicine.utah.edu.admissions The changes will be posted there as soon as final decisions are made.
