2014-2015 University of Vermont Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
too bad, UVM is probably my first choice and i'm reasonably confident i'll get in, i was really hoping for a quick, no-stress end to the whole med school application process

Lolz srsly? This is all just a game of chance dude. Confidence is great but there is no "quick, no-stress end" to applying to medical school.

Small pooled (I think today). I was complete around 7/25.

Under preliminary review, I think the verbiage changed today!

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but is small pooled what happens to a lot of applicants? Or can I take it as a good sign?

Thanks! 🙂

any people here who submitted 7/28 who still are not complete?

Complete 7/25 and still not complete

Seems like we passed 8 weeks then, although it says 10-12 at certain points. But people who submitted in August are getting small pooled so i dont know what the heck is going on.

I don't think that everyone gets small-pooled. Based upon last year's thread, it looks like UVM does not send rejections during the cycle.

Sent in the secondary 7/21 and still not complete here, either.

But what do they do then, not tell you you're under review? I think what s/he's saying is that people have already been considered complete that submitted after him/her.

Ah, sorry. I didn't realize that there was another status between "application received" and "small-pooled" but it totally makes sense that there is.

Has anyone been to the interview yet and willing to discuss what it was like?

Are you suppose to get an email when your secondary is complete?

Just checked my portal and apparently I was small pooled....don't know a specific date but I was complete way back in July!

Finally complete after a 7/24 secondary submission. Love me UVM as much as I love you!

Is anyone else from the Chicago area interviewing here tomorrow? All flights have been canceled/delayed out of O'Hare and Midway due to a fire at an FAA facility and I'm trying to find another way to get to Vermont - any suggestions are welcome!!!

That sucks. I suppose you could rent a car and drive the ~14 hours.

Change your itinerary so you're leaving from another nearby airport and take Pub trans there. If you call the airline they may be able to do it for you if you explain the situation.

Thanks! I was actually able to reschedule for a really late flight which is unfortunate because I won't get in until about 3 AM but at least I'll be there. Flights were grounded at both Chicago airports and the airline I'm flying only had one other option so I had to take it. I'm not thrilled about interviewing after only 4 hours of shuteye but I suppose this will be good practice for when I'm a doctor and have to work on limited sleep!

I had a similar experience on my way to Rochester a few weeks back. The first leg of my flight was delayed several hours; long enough for me to miss my connection. I ended up getting rerouted and getting in after midnight. I felt like the adrenaline of interview day kept me going just fine, but I crashed big time afterward.

You'll do fine. Make sure to let them know how hard you worked to make to the the interview.

Thanks! That's actually very encouraging. I think I'll be OK, I'll sleep on the plane/at the airport if I have to (luckily I'm good at napping in odd places). I'll also be staying with family so it's not like I have to worry about hotel reservations or anything like that so that's a positive!

Well, it looks like the universe is simply not going to let me interview this weekend. After more flight cancellations I decided to reschedule the interview (there are literally no flights out of Chicago to where I need to go that will get me there in time). The admissions office was really nice and found me another date within the month so if anyone else has the misfortune of dealing with a similar issue at least you can take comfort in the fact that the admissions people there are incredibly helpful and understanding!

"Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months. "

Is this considered "small-pooled"????

I had the same status too... I'd like to know!

Congrats on the small pool!

Just curious how long ago you submitted? And did this status come after an initial complete status?

For anyone who is interviewing here, any advice on which hotel to stay at? In terms of cost, distance, shuttle service etc.

Is anyone else having issues logging onto the online application center? I keep getting 500 - Internal Server Error

Edit: Also getting: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Hang in there everyone. They've sent out relatively few invites so far because they're working the kinks out of their new interview format. As of two weeks ago they're only interviewing once per week (on Saturdays) and soon will be interviewing much larger groups once every couple weeks.

Small pooled! Submitted my secondary 9/6...not really sure when I was complete. I haven't checked my status since I submitted the secondary because I was excepting it to take about 8 weeks. Looks like they're moving a little more quickly. Hopefully some of you hear back soon!!:joyful:

WOW that was fast! I submitted on September 1 and am not yet under preliminary review.
