2014-2015 University of Vermont Application Thread

What does your status actually say?? Does it mention preliminary review?

I'm currently in the post-interview stage which I think is past preliminary review. The actual message is below. Before today it just had my interview information up there. I'm hoping this means that I'll be in the next batch of applications that are reviewed in committee.

"We hope that you enjoyed your interview at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and that you were able to learn more about our school, curriculum and life in Burlington.

Your file will now be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and you will be notified in the coming weeks regarding the final decision of the committee."

submitted secondary mid august, and finally under prelim review! Now just another 6-8 weeks of waiting...

did anyone submit a letter of interest after being small pooled? and if so, did you hear back/receive an II?

Any recommendations for hotels near the airport/university? Preferably for folks who would prefer not to rent a car?
Thanks

anyone interviewing 12/11 send in the googledoc for housing and not gotten a response yet? do I need to get a hotel?

Small pooled recently. What are the chances of an II following this?

who knows. I feel like very many applicants get this. I was small pooled months ago and haven't received a II, others received one shortly after. it varies I guess

Follow the page the university recommends for hotels, they are all pretty close, and most offer shuttle to the interview site, I stayed at Best Western and they picked me up at the airport and took me to the interview... Honestly, Burlington is not very big, everything is pretty close... No car needed!

So it looks like Second Look was May 3rd last year. Is that right? What goes on during a second look? Do people ever bring family/partners?

I think second look will occur before April 30 this year! I guess it's an opportunity to check out the place more in depth! And it wouldn't be unusual for a family member or partner to attend with you. My student host and his partner attended together and decided that it was a good fit for both of them. Hope that helps!

So jealous! Congrats though! You were small pooled, right? When? I haven't even been moved into the pool! Still in preliminary review :-/

haha thanks, I'm definitely very happy about it, and honored. I was small pooled around 10/15, and II today on 12/1. so about 6 weeks ago

Can anyone talk about how the MMIs went for them and give a general description without exposing too many details? Were there acting scenarios?

You have to sign a non-disclosure agreement so I can't tell you about the actual scenarios but I can give you some general advice! This was my first MMI and I really enjoyed it. All the interviewers were great and you'll have plenty of time to think about your answer before you have to actually discuss anything with anyone. The best thing you can do for yourself is relax because you won't know what the questions are until the day of and there's really no way you can prepare (all your work up to your application has been great preparation!). If you absolutely must practice then just do some informal questions with friends. There are lots of sample ones online. Look over the question for a few minutes and then set a timer for 5-10 minutes and try to keep your discussion within that time limit. This will at least help you become more comfortable with the format (I honestly am not sure how long you'll have in the actual thing because I forget!). Hope this is helpful 🙂

Sorry if you mentioned this earlier (I didn't look back at all the posts),but did you send an update after getting small-pooled? I'm on like 9 weeks small pooled and it's driving me crazy! haha

nope no update. just a random nice surprise lol

Interview invite extended directly 11/27. MCAT score released 10/22, secondary completed on that day since it was pending MCAT scores.

EDIT: How many people were directly extended an II? Have you heard back since your interview? Any In-State applicants here?

What do you mean by directly extended?

I wasn't small pooled. After my secondary was updated as complete (upon receipt of my MCAT score) it was roughly 4 weeks until I was emailed with an II.

Most likely you were small pooled (unless you were checking the portal every day and your status never changed). They don't email you when that happens, only when you get an interview so there are a few people who assume that their app went straight from review to interview (although this may also happen but not to anyone I know).

That is definitely a possibility, although I did check twice per week on the same days (as I still do with my other apps) and there was no status change. Either way I am excited to interview! Hoping for reasonable chances of acceptance, UVM is my #1 choice.

Just curious why is it your #1 choice?

OOS II 12/1, really excited to visit Vermont! I was looking at the acceptance stats and correct me if I'm wrong, but they seem to give a lot of OOS interview invites yes?

I have multiple friends that are recent graduates and I have learned a lot from their experiences there. I also like the way the Vermont Integrated Curriculum is set up and think it would be beneficial to my learning style and progression as a medical student.

Has anyone who submitted in early September still not been marked as complete?

Did anyone get an acceptance call instead of an email? I'm kind of scared because I have a missed call from the University of Vermont Medical Center (it reroutes you so you can't directly call back whoever called you and just tells you it's the UVM Med Ctr) and I'm worried it's bad news or something. My boyfriend thinks I should just call admissions but I'm nervous about that...

I would check your portal first and then call admissions! I received the email and my portal was updated after receiving the email. Best of luck to you!

Thanks! I called and they said it wasn't from their office so it looks like a false alarm. I have an 802 mobile number so it could honestly have just been a cruel, cruel coincidence/wrong number situation :/

University of Vermont Medical Center is the new name for Fletcher Allen. It looks like you missed a call from the hospital, not the medical school.

I know! If someone from the ADCOM was calling though it wasn't outside the realm of possibility that they would be doing it from an office inside the hospital perhaps (I know some schools do individual calls). Thanks for the clarification though.

Jumping in the small pool... again

complete about 1-2 weeks ago.

That quick? Man I was complete like over 2 months ago and I'm still in prelim review! I'm assuming that if we never get out of prelim review, then it's a rejection.

If you are able to see/remember, what were the dates that they're scheduling for at this time? I have no received an II, but I will be in the area in January.

I think they assign you a date and you confirm if you can make it. from what others and myself have experienced, they're well into February unfortunately.

I was complete mid august and I'm still on the 'supplemental application has been received and will reviewed' status. Is something going on? I sent an update letter that they added to my file, so it's not like they lost it or anything.

I think I've seen some pre-II rejections for uvm right?

I submitted in August and am still not marked as complete. Status says "Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed; at certain times of the year, it may take as many as 10-12 weeks. You should continue to periodically check on the status of your file through the Online Applicant Center. We appreciate your patience"!
16 weeks.
Checking my status weekly like a good girl.
Wonder if they truly appreciate how patient I've been?
