Just got an II here. My state school is ~15-16k tuition. Anyone have any advice on whether or not its worth going to this interview? Scholarship likelihood? LizzyM is 73

If you have been accepted to your state school, and you want to attend there, I would say don't go to the interview. If you haven't been accepted or are unsure if you want to attend there, then I'm sure you know that nothing is for sure in this application process, so go to as many interviews as you can. Just my two cents.

If you are wondering if the school is worth it, I really enjoyed interview day. The faculty were very interested in us as applicants and were very attentive to our needs and questions. The students were friendly and happy to be helping out as well. It was kind of a small campus, but the facilities were more than adequate to have opportunities for exposure to whatever specialty/cases you want. Again, just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

Finally made if from "all materials recieved" to "under preliminary review" recently after submitting everything towards the end of august...

aha! submitted 08/17, finally moved to "under preliminary review" within the last 2-3 days

Completed in August and it says right now: Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.
Is this what people have been meaning by small pooled?

yeah, I've been staring at that status for a very long time... 🙁

Have any december interviewees been hearing back? I saw one post about being waitlisted from a 12/11 interview. Anyone else?

For those that interviewed, you don't have to specify. You can give a vague answer. I just want to know if the interview was more of ethical questions or regular interview questions

Its an MMI so I will let you come to your own conclusions...

Well I had an MMI interview at another school and there was only two ethical questions. I just want to know how it is in Vermont
What I will say is that is abnormal and you can generally expect MMIs to be heavily focused in ethical and behavioral scenarios.

I interviewed 12/11 and got my acceptance a couple weeks ago. You should hear soon 🙂 All the best!
That's great! Congrats!

I interviewed 12/17 so I'm assuming they're almost done processing your week by now. They told us we'd hear back beginning of Feb but it seems they are moving along a little quicker than they projected. I'm getting anxious!

No, just checking the portal. I imagine an II will be email, but status updates are just through the portal.
The only email I received was for my II. They still have many interview blocks left so it is very possible to get one in the next month!

So did it say small pooled or just this: Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended.

Bingo. Welcome to the kiddie pool...

that's exactly what mine says

For some reason there's a high interest in receiving an II from this school. Anyone care to shed light on why? Good luck to all.

Nice pic!

Question: There are many OOS clinical rotation sites for Vermont students.
http://www.uvm.edu/medicine/admissions/?Page=clinical.html&SM=whysubmenu.html

How are students placed at the sites? Can students choose? Thanks.
You request your choices in the order of preference, then everybody is put into a lottery. First round everybody is selected that gets first choice, second round second choice, etc.

The possibility exists to get your #1 preference for every rotation, but it also exists to receive your last choice for each. Usually you'll fall somewhere in the middle.

Is it a high possibility that an OOS applicant will be waitlisted if they interview at the end of February?
Also if some of you who have already interviewed just tell me about the school itself? Like why would you go there? Besides the fact that it's absolutely gorgeous 🙂

Anyone else on here interviewing this weekend (the 24th)? I'm arriving Friday afternoon and would be willing to meet up for dinner or to see the city.

Hey there, I'm interviewing tomorrow and am driving up today. PM me, I'd been down to grab a meal!

The curriculum is amazing, the school is well funded and state of the art, and the instructors really have a passion for teaching and training future physicians. Every student that is there loves it.

Also, anyone that has interviewed there about how long does it take to travel from the school to the airport by taxi? I am planning my return flight and the school said that the interview ended at approximately 3:30PM, and I was wondering if it is realistic that I would make a 5:30 flight?

10 minute drive and it isn't a large airport. You should be fine.

To those who have interviewed : does anybody have any particular recommendations aside from the ones on UVMs website? Just wondering where people stayed how it was ( shuttle airport , distance to interview, etc).

In addition. Without waiving the said NDA agreement. Does anybody have any tips for the interview ?

Thanks!

I booked a room at the Hilton in Burlington and they have an amazing rate for applicants, it was only $84 dollars, plus they provide a free shuttle to/from the airport and school.

Where did you see the status change? I can't seem to see a tab on the website for that under my account. Thanks!

Just sign in. Your status will be right below the text "online applicant center" on the "home" page of the portal (which should be the page that opens when you sign in).

Thanks. I was hoping there was some other magic button that updated me more because currently I am still looking at this: "Your supplemental application has been received. Please note that it may take 6-8 weeks for all materials to be processed. You should continue to periodically check on the status of your file through the Online Applicant Center. We appreciate your patience!"

And that was over 8 weeks ago that they received the secondary.

I've been small pooled, not sure since when.

Is the school receptive to update letters?

I sent an update letter after being small pooled about a week ago. They did send back a nice email letting me know it was added to my file, so they are definitely receptive. As to whether or not it will help, who knows? But it can't hurt! haha
