This is absolutely my dream school and I would honestly die if I got accepted but this is an extreme reach for me since I only have a 29 and non-URM. I am IS and I was a medic in the Air Force so until they flat out tell me NO! I am going to continue to have hope. That's all you can do. Don't let me down UVA. Show me some love =]
 
Does anyone know if UVA is receptive to in the area emails?
 
I sent an in the area email. They sent back a general we can't know when we will finish reviewing your app but we will put that info with your application email.
 
II today! 3.9 GPA, 35 MCAT, non-traditional applicant, OOC (out of country lol)
 
II earlier today! Complete 7/28, OOS. UVA is a great school in a beautiful part of the country. I am really excited. 🙂

I was truly shaken when I got outright rejected from my state school, therefore I never saw this coming. Good luck everyone! 🙂

Congrats everyone on the II!

I was wondering if anyone had any insights into how UVA hands out II. I was complete on 7/14 and am IS with stats comparable to their median. I guess a little neuroticism is starting to creep in on me since it looks like ppl who were complete in august are starting to get interviews.
 
U.Va. tends to give out IIs in the early phases to people with high numbers, as you've noted in the past. I think it has to do in part with trying to increase the yield of people with high numbers since they start giving out acceptances ASAP. This next comment is solely my opinion, but I wouldn't think that IS versus OOS plays a large role at this point because everyone they are inviting to interview is extremely qualified. I wouldn't worry too much about the time of submission. It seems that schools like U.Va. and Duke pay less attention to the time of submission for people with very high scores from what I've been reading. I know that I've been fortunate to have an unusually quick turnaround at both schools, perhaps an unfairly so considering when others have been complete.

I know that's probably not too much help, but if you have stats that are comparative to the median of accepted students then I'm sure you don't have too much to worry about. You might just have to sit tight for a little bit!
 
haha you're right. thanks. i guess it's easy to forget that we are still pretty early in the application cycle.
 
Not an All Star here. I have an II and while I'm 3.8+, my MCAT is below the median for this school. It is within the range for UVA though.

Two interviews (or was it three?...graduated in 2011, matriculated 2006...it's been awhile). I remember one with MD, one with student. Very conversational. Lunch is just simply the best you'll get on the trail. Beautiful town. I miss it (and I'm currently a resident in NYC).

Best financial aid presentation I experienced.

The first day of class, the dean got up and says "You are all here now. You will graduate unless you decide you do not want to graduate". Epitome of non-malignant.

You have to submit that form for the II, because UVA has an in-state preference and they want to verify you are in-state before offering an II.

Thanks for your thoughts. I had another question if you have a minute. How well did students in your class or just overall match into competitive specialties? How well respected is the UVA name? I am currently deciding whether to attend this interview as I have many that are higher ranked. I really love the idea of Charlottesville but also want to be cognizant of the prestige factor.

Take a look at the match list in the recent past for yourself. UVA is well known, and graduates are everywhere. The biggest thing holding you back is going to be your own work ethic, not the UVA name. You're not deciding between Harvard and a school ranked #100, you're looking at another program that is in the top 25ish.

See mvenus' post. It's well known and matching into specialties is not a problem. Of my closest friends and myself, we had Ophtho, rads, Derm, EM, ENT, ob/gyn, rad onc, neuro, med/psych, psych, and the rest IM.

It's obviously not Yale or Harvard name recognition, but it's up there.

I wouldn't worry yet. They have a long interview season. I don't know if they changed, but they don't seem to front load acceptances...more like a some up front, then evenly throughout the interview season.

I don't remember when I got my II, but I interviewed in December (it snowed on my interview day) and had an acceptance a week later. I was OOS, but living in Metro DC MD at the time.

Are they receptive to updates and do you think it would be helpful at this point?
 
Has anyone interviewed there yet this cycle? I'm interviewing this week (super excited), and would love to hear about y'all's experiences!

I think they're receptive, but unless it's pretty significant, it probably doesn't make too much of a difference.

Again, be patient. I had 8 or so interviews when I went through the torture...err, process, and UVA was one of my last interviews.
 
Question for IS applicants that have received IIs: Did anyone ever receive a reply or acknowledgement of their Application for Instate Privilege form? I submitted my application and my instate form in July, and received a "complete" email for my application, but with the caveat that no II would be issued until the instate form was received. I'm hoping (assuming?) that they received it, but would feel better knowing if other IS applicants did or did not receive an acknowledgment of the IS form?

Nope, never got a confirmation and I don't think anyone here has, but they should have it processed within 2 weeks.
 
anyone have any idea how far out UVA has scheduled already? also does UVA send out rejections throughout the cycle or just more towards the end?

not sure how far out they go but I have heard from alumni that they are pretty quick at letting you know one way or the other which is nice.

In mid-August when I got my II, they were scheduling late October/early November, so I'm guessing they're probably at least a good ways into November at this point. I'm not sure what that means in terms of the timeline for other decisions, but UVA doesn't seem like the type of school to leave applicants hanging.

To my knowledge, the time from interview to decision is less than 2 weeks. I remember reading that they discuss/decide interviewees the same week.
 
Since UVA interviews for positions in the class (not waitlist) through the interview season (which goes into February), they tend not to send out rejections early in the cycle. They tend to invite lower stat people later in the season, and do attempt to fill slots in which others have canceled.

But yes, once you interview, you will get your decision very quickly.
 
They make a decision on you the Friday after you interview, so it's pretty quick.
 
II this morning!

IS 3.75 36 for people stat-interested. Submitted July 7. Never done research in my life so there's that going against me (non-traditional and silly amount of hours working in a hospital which I guess balances?). Exciting.

Loved interviewing here today! If any of you here interviewed today as well, it was great to meet you. Hope for some good news come October. I would love to attend here.

Ahaha, thanks for the plug, claduva. 😉

Just a friendly reminder to take anything and everything in my mdapps with a metric crap-ton of salt. Recaps are a mixture of factual info and my (very humble) opinion. I had a lovely time here; the curriculum has to be one of my favourites and the admissions staff were truly exceptional. I'd be utterly thrilled to attend.

PS: The lunch was legendary.... get the peach cobbler.
