+1 although, if I'm not mistaken, sunflower18, you already have another interview (promise I'm not stalking)! Hopefully I'll be joining the party soon 🙂

You're right, I do! I'm pretty pumped 🙂 but VCU is awesome and I'd love to have the chance to interview here too!

Good luck to you!!

Did they email with the invite or was it one of those status changes? I'd like to know so I can gauge my excitement when I finally get one. I was marked as complete on the 10th so maybe that is the date they are going on?

Do you guys think VCU is open to "in the area" emails? I'm interviewing in Charlottesville second week of september and even though that is not exactly right next to Richmond, I do come from far.

So has anyone else not gotten a secondary yet? I got an email on 6/27 saying they were reviewing my primary but no change since then?
I'm in the same boat! Getting a bit antsy, though I'm not entirely discouraged since they have handed out pre-secondary rejections to some people already.

So I emailed them because I was getting worried and they said it's because I didn't give them a copy of my PR card... which I didn't know I had to send before the secondary, I thought I'd send it with the secondary. (Probably me being my normal ditzy self but that might be your case too?)

Oh really? Sorry but what's a PR card? I'm guessing the fact that I don't know the abbreviation means I probably also need to send it in, haha. Thanks!

Sorry! Permanent resident/greencard/alien status... I always love telling people I'm an alien.

Who did you email? The general admissions email or Dr. Whitehurst-Cook?

Oh I gotcha. I don't have a PR so I must have a different issue. I'll probably email Candace later. Good luck to you!

Is the prompt on the first post the only secondary essay? With an 8000 character limit? I've read through this entire thread and I'm confused what essays are/aren't included.

Yes except it is 2000 characters I believe. The confusion exists because there was technical difficulties with the essay question.

The prompt is the one about the teenage girl who has become sexually active. Character limit is 2000.

That's the only essay unless you're a reapplicant or have lapses in your undergrad education (they do not define the latter).

Thank you both!

Just got this status update,

The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

Glorified rejection?

"The following was taken from last year's thread, which was subsequently taken from the previous year's thread. 😛 Hopefully it'll help? I'm not sure how accurate it is though.

"Application Status:

1) "The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date."

2) "The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."

4) "The committee's file review indicates that they wish to consider your file over the next several weeks before making a decision about interview. Since they have some reservations about granting an interview, your file will be reviewed again by a small sub-committee before making a final decision. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

5) "REJECTED"

#1 - you are interviewed
#2/3 - may be interviewed (still not sure how they are different or which is better)
#4 - subcommitee message
#5 - rejection.""

For what it's worth, I got #3 today, but I also got a "identified as a strong candidate" email a few days ago. Mixed signals? Has anyone received the #1 or #2 statuses?

I've been wondering -- are there really any schools that would take kindly to something like that? It'd be nice to know, but I can't help but feel like most admissions committees see it as 'nudging'...

From their website, SLU is supposedly open to that.

For those of you who had letters come in to AMCAS after you submitted the secondary -- how long did it take for your status to show up as complete? I know that some schools download changes to applications weekly or even less frequently -- is it worth it to let them know my letters are in?

Same situation. ... submitted my letters to amcas a week ago. Still incomplete but all my other schools got them

I haven't had any status update at all since becoming complete on 7/10. Is that a bad sign, or does it just mean they haven't looked at my application yet for some reason?
I've been complete since 7/9. Still no status change. Maybe my essay sucked.

Getting incredibly anxious.. I'm IS and I submitted 7/10.

I saw that some people got this status : Your file is complete, and has been forwarded to the Admissions Committee for further decision."

but I have

Your M.D. file is now complete. The Admissions Committee will now do a comprehensive review of your application. Once the review is complete, your file will be prioritized, and interviews will be granted based on your priority score and the date your file was completed. Please do not call the Admissions Office requesting special dates. Please continue to read all paragraphs below.

Is there any real difference..?

I asked this a couple days ago and we had a lengthy discussion. We said no

The reason I asked about this is that I have heard of several people who did just that - had an interview at a school and emailed schools in the area they had applied to and got interviews at all of those right after. I'm not quite comfortable with it, but heard it works from many.

However, the website explicitly states to NOT call and ask for special dates. I took this as a sign to not send an in the area email.

I had the "may" status (#2) last year and ended up not getting an interview, though I submitted that secondary late (not until mid-September) and got the "may" status in November so I think that was a large part of it.

You have a higher chance of getting an interview with the "may" status (#2) than the "further" status (#3), but it's still very possible to get an interview with the "further" status, especially this early in the cycle.

Everyone has this "status," if I'm not mistaken. It's the first thing you see when you log into the portal. Your true "status" ("may", "further", etc.) is on another tab.

Another tab..? I clicked on "file status". Is that what you're referring to?

I don't see other tabs lol

-----
This is all I see

FILE STATUS:COMPLETE
Our records show that the following items have been received**:
Supplemental Application:7/10/2014
Supplemental Application Fee:6/27/2014

If i'm a citizen, I don't have to give them a photocopy of my greencard right?

Yup, that's it. It's essentially a tab... should be a link that has its own mini-box-thing right above the general message when you first log in. At least that's what it looked like last year.

I have an interesting question. Those of you who got IIs/status updates did you write the 1st essay (cancer/alternative medicine) or the 2nd updated one (underage girl). Probably doesn't matter, but I'm curious. I have too much time on my hands -_- lol.

I just received a #2 status today. Hopefully it will upgrade soon!

Are these updates under the home screen or under the file status screen? Been seeing mixed answers about which screen to pay attention to.

It's the home screen, you probably have to wait until your application is complete first to notice them.
