Can any med students please chime in: did the large class size adversely affect your education and training at WSU?

My interview date is a week away. I also have one at MSU CHM the same week. Is it weird that I am actually not nearly as nervous for the WSU SOM interview as I am MSU CHM?!?!

I did have an interview last friday but was denied at the end of it.

While both were relatively relaxed, I thought the WSU one was even more laid-back than MSU CHM because of the MMI at MSU.

But really, these are both relatively low-stress interviews. Good luck!

I would agree. I felt that they were both pretty laid back. Although the MMI format we had at MSUCHM can be stressful, it's actually really fun once you get into the swing of things. Don't stress out too much over either of them Final_stretch_med, you'll do great! Good luck!

Hey there everyone. I am OOS and I applied to Wayne state in September. I received a secondary which I completed by the end of October. Any idea as to when i should expect to hear back from them about whether or not my application was considered? And would it be advisable to call the admissions office regarding the status of my application. I really want to go to Wayne State specifically so I am pretty anxious about it all xP

I submitted my secondary mid-august and I still haven't heard anything. This process is super variable. You could hear tomorrow or you could hear in February. Unfortunately there's no way to know.

It sounds like most people on this thread had about a month wait between secondary submission and II...if you submitted late October, sounds like you have some time before you start worrying.

Yep, I'm with you on this one. Complete mid-August, still haven't heard anything. I'm IS and my numbers are right around Wayne State's medians.

Wayne has received my verified AMCAS on 9/16, however, I've yet to receive a secondary application. Based on the timings I've read I'm starting to get concerned. Should I get into contact with the admissions office?

That might be a good idea. As an OOS applicant, I applied to Wayne State in the beginning of October and received a secondary in late October. Good luck!

Just be yourself and you'll do great! They will have your full application file reviewed so be prepared to answer any questions they might have about details on that. Also, make sure you have some well thought out questions for your interviewer. 🙂 Good luck!

Are you IS or OOS?

I was accepted. My interviewer essentially told me I would be accepted. I think the reason I had success here is in my secondary and interview I repeatedly articulated quite clearly why I liked the school. Other than that emphasis just standard interview protocol.

Congratulations! Good to hear about that. Are you OOS? I am an OOS candidate and not really sure how many IS and OOS they like to accept each month.

I'm IS. I would have to agree with what claduva94 said too. Make sure you have clear reasons why you want to attend Wayne State. I wouldn't worry too much about the IS/OOS thing, just focus on rockin' your interview. On my interview day there were about 10 of us and only 3 were IS.

claduva94 did you go to uva? if so, go hoos!

Gotcha!Thank you for your tips! I really appreciate them.

I'm OOS. Keep in mind roughly 80% of OOS interviewees get accepted outright or off the waitlist.

I do! Wahoowa!

I'm an M1, and I don't think the class size has much to do with the education. No matter where you go, your first few years will consist of sitting in lecture halls and/ or streaming lectures. As for school resources, WSUSOM is the largest single campus medical school in the US, and there are more resources here than you will ever have time for. I've gotten multiple offers to join labs for research while merely chatting with professors after class.

They also make a point of sectioning us off into small groups with mentors. Your clinical medicine course will be a small group with a mentorship-like feel, and you will also be assigned to a mentor (usually a program director- or someone similarly good to know for residency applications) on the side. The school AOA also has a mentorship program, and the counseling office hooks students up with upperclassmen who can guide them through the craziness. If you want individual attention, you can get as much as you like here.

There may be more student groups/ social activities because of the class size. There's also more bodies to look over in anatomy lab. Other than that, not much of an effect.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to it! I see your status changed to (accepted)! Where was it that you decided to go, or have you decided yet?!

Thank you very much! Of course I'll post on here to say how I felt the interview went!
It's getting so close and I just can't wait to get them finished so I can relax a little bit.....just until I then start getting nervous about receiving the happy phone call, or the dreaded email!! 🙂

Has anyone obtained in state residency status after being accepted as an oos student?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that Wayne does not allow OOS students to change their residency status after acceptance.

You'd have to establish residency prior to matriculation. For this you need to live and work in the state as a non-student for 12 consecutive months. I only know this because it's what I'm doing right now prior to August matriculation dates in 2015.

I spoke to the admissions office on the phone last week. The person I talked to said that they're scheduling interviews in December and January through the next few weeks, and that they interview all the way through March. Although it's rolling, it sounded to me like later interviewees aren't at a significant disadvantage.

29 MCAT 3.89 GPA...anyone think that Ill hear back for an II? I got a secondary...

good luck! my interview is next week... getting nervous
you'll be fine..just know your application in and out..as everyone else mentioned the interview is low stress they really want to know you.
Wayne state only interviews people who they really are considering for admission. Just show your passion for medicine...good luck!

Do you know what percentage of applicants receive secondaries? I love the school, but I'm debating whether or not to submit one because it's already so late and I'm oos.

they only send secondaries to candidates they are serious about

I have similar stats (I'm just slightly lower actually), but I interviewed at the end of October. I'm IS though... You've probably got a good chance though as long as your secondary essays and ECs are good 🙂

i believe they send out around 1200 secondaryies(2/3 to IS and 1/3 to OOS)

IS and have not heard a single thing since I sent in my secondary in August. Wayne has a very poor relationship with my UG institution though, so I've been fighting an uphill battle the whole time.

Regardless, hoping for good news! I'm from the Detroit area and would love to live and study in the city. It really is a great place.

I was just wondering if anyone knew how late into December are they interviewing?

I'm assuming that for those who received the secondary, the II rate is 50%, and after the interview the acceptance rate looks even better?
How long does it take from a secondary to an interview invite?

about a month

How are my rate approximations? about right? Is Wayne giving more secondaries or interviews this year?
