2014-2015 Yale University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha, when n=1, it's only a theory. when n=2, it's truth now. 😛

n = 3; it works! I got the acceptance email. I can't believe this. I feel like I have run the full gamut of emotions in the past fifteen minutes. This is incredible.:soexcited::highfive:

I also would like to call out the Yale student who said that all the neurotic types get rejected. This is clearly not true because I got in! 😛😉

Ouch....rejected.....my best interviews were at Yale too :/

Theory invalidated! Did the same thing and it didn't work 🙁

Does anyone know if there is any way to know where we are on the waitlist? Is it tiered?
From past years - it looks like the WL is divided into 3 tiers. However, you don't find out which tier you're in until later in the cycle. If you're in tier 1 chances of getting in are high, tier 2 is so-so (depends on the year), and tier 3 not so much.

Sorry to those waitlisted or rejected, especially at @Willy38. I was rooting for you. :/

I skimmed over last year's thread a while back and it sounds like it is tiered, but you won't find out what tier you're in for a while longer. It sounds like some people in the highest tier actually got off the waitlist before they even find out what tier they're in.

I'm pulling for you, Willy!

On an anecdotal note, one of my interviewers said that about half of Yale's incoming class comes off the waitlist, so there's a lot of movement.

Whoa congratulations everybody--accepted here too! What a wonderful email to come back to after being away for a couple of days. Received 10:11 AM EDT.

At my interview, I was too embarrassed to ask for acceptance out loud in the med school library, I'm sorry to say. But I was thinking it.

Pulling for those on the waitlist, it sounds like it definitely moves!

Waitlisted. Oh well. Congrats to those accepted and for those of you who weren't (and maybe some of you who were too) I hope to see some of you at Columbia!

🙂

Don't give up hope yet! But congratulations on Columbia. You've achieved the unachievable by getting in given the almost 1/6 post interview outright-acceptance rate!

WL for MSTP and MD, staying on the former waitlist. Congrats to all those accepted!

It would have been a very tough decision between the two (almost an impossibly decision really) and I really don't want to prolong it any more (it's already been too long lol). I am strongly considering taking myself off the list so I can finally be done!

Congrats on your acceptances! You have some very tough decisions ahead of you 🙂

By when do you think we have to accept the place offered to us and pay the deposit? I don't see anything about a two week deadline or anything.

Does anyone know what percentage of people are outright accepted versus waitlisted versus rejected?

Wait listed 🙁 Congrats to all of the acceptances!! This was an amazing school to visit! I was really looking forward to being classmates with @BengaliBrat, @FriendlyFH and @ProbablyAPenguin if you guys eventually end up choosing the school 🙂 So many congratulations to you guys!!! :soexcited:
Well, it is difficult to believe that you are on the waitlist--you are just so stunning! I have also landed there, about 400 places back from you! While I can't help being disappointed, I keep telling myself that I am blessed to have been chosen for medical education and that there are opportunities and great teachers everywhere. The grapes aren't sour--I'm just saying that these peaches I've been given instead are. . .well, peachy! Wherever we end up, @researchismymiddlename, we are friends.

Haha, not surprised to see the good news. You've been killing it. Congrats!

Rejected - and interviewed in September. This one stung a tad to be true.
  • Yet I've been rejected by several of the finest institutions in the USA these past couple of weeks. No one can take that away from me. LOL
  • Congratulations to all and good luck to those on the WL

Congrats to all those that were accepted! Got the WL email.
And congrats to you on your other awesome acceptances! Will you be riding this one out with the rest of us ?

@Kelilah, if you aren't completely out of energy, would you pull for me, too? 🙂 For all those to be congratulated--sending those HURRAHS! your way. Wishing my fellow ladies-in-waiting and gentlemen-in-waiting patience, which I desperately need myself. For those who got less welcome news, hoping that the ouch is minimal and soon healed. You KNOW that you are good--you were invited to interview at one of the top schools (and, I'm almost certain, more than one.) We're all at the threshold now, folks--handshakes and hugs all round as we begin the work that really matters.

May I ask the accepted students, are any of you strong in physics or philosophy?

The reason that I'm asking is because of something that my Physics professor said. He recommended me to apply to Yale (he didn't have to convince me haha, of course I would have applied to Yale), because he believed that Yale would like students who were strong in physics and philosophy. I guess I could be perceived as strong in both areas indeed....He didn't talk about why he believe so, and I didn't ask. Now that I'm accepted...I'm curious to know how much truth there was. I remembered that Dean Silverman did use a Physics grad student as an example when he was explaining something totally unrelated, like how to look at MCAT scores and stuff...

I am pulling for everyone on the waitlist, but I absolutely have energy to spare for you, @BengaliBrat! If your real life personality is anywhere near as funny, encouraging, and poingnant as your SDN posts, you would be an asset to any medical school class. I know you and I share at least one acceptance in common and I might end up seeing you there (Ohio State), but it would be an honor to become a Yalie with you! :xf:

AWWW HUN, you're just full of sweet words!! I was sure you'd meet good news here -- your unique and inspiring experiences and your passion are incredibly rich! I don't think one of us will ever win this argument but I'm totally behind you on this wait list indeed, that is true! Hahaha I love that little snippet and I'm going to quote you on that! AND FINALLY, I'll admit the last line made me smile like an idiot, your personality is just radiant.

SHE IS EVEN BETTER IN PERSON, such a friendly, vivacious and well spoken soul with pure kindness and beauty from all angles. She will truly be an asset and a gem anywhere she goes and I would absolutely love to be classmates with her!!! (and by extension, you! Haha)

Congratulations on your acceptance here!! This is incredible news and you should celebrate!!!

I have never taken a philosophy course ever.

I'm an engineering major so maybe that makes me strong in physics? But i'm not a mechanical engineer or anything.

I guess I did well on my physics MCAT section?

Accepted! I spent the whole day yesterday on the beach and without WiFi. It took about 10 minutes just to load email once I got access to satellite WiFi, but in the end it was worth it. I must've have looked like a freak when I got the news in the internet cafe...incredibly happy for everyone on this thread, if you were in the running here you're gonna be a great doc!!

Simple. People who are good at physics and philosophy tend to be awesome. Yale is only for awesome people. Ergo...

Also does anyone know if we have to respond to their acceptance and pay the $100 now? Or can we just sit on it until April 30th?
Second @ProbablyAPenguin . It's refundable. Even if it's not, Yale can have $100 from me for how awesome they are. I would be very surprised if I wasn't the first one to pay the deposit--actually received the order conformation email 4 minutes before the acceptance email went out.

They received a facebook group request from me less than 60 seconds after I got the email.
i'm not eager at all.
