No.....but i did it a while ago when the acceptance to Yale was still a wishful thinking. If you still have issue, maybe call?

On a related note: not sure why Yale prefers the tax form prepared by ourselves over the IRS return transcript. All the other schools love the return transcripts since it's more official...

Also guys: don't forget the Certification of Information Form. It's easy to miss but it's required by 3/16 as well. It can be found here:

Do you think waitlisters could also submit all these forms or do we wait until we hear back again?

You can definitely submit the forms. I think it might be a good idea to do that if you are seriously considering Yale, especially if you've already been doing the Need Access for other schools. It's just extra few steps.
But if you don't, I'd assume they have backup measure in place to offer need air to those who are accepted off waitlist.

Thanks for the reply! I did end up getting it to work...technology hates me :arghh:. About the transcript, i believe that's required if you can't get the IRS data retrieval to work...unfortunately but not surprisingly they'll be getting transcripts from me.

To confirm, if you're note expecting to receive need-based aid, the FAFSA and Need Access forms are optional, correct?

FAFSA will be required for loan. (unless you don't need to borrow any...in which case...I'm not sure...)Need Access probably not.

thanks! Also, do waitlisters have a Yale ID number? How do we know what it is?

No one has the ID number as of now...was told just to leave it blank.

I have one... Financial aid office gave me mine over the phone.
Nice...👍. I'd like to have one too! But maybe I shouldn't keep calling them...I already called today. I'll just wait until one is given to me some day down the line. It wasn't necessary for applying for Fin Aid I know that for sure...

Why do you think it's not necessary? It asks for it on this form: http://medicine.yale.edu/education/finaid/apply/98_177807_CertificationofInfo1415.pdf
I called before I was accepted and the lady said just leave it blank if I want to submit before I got one. I also thought that if it was truly necessary, then we must have all gotten one by now, since fin aid deadline is Monday. It is probalby just an additional quick way to identify your file, as long as you have the name and the Bday, it should be fine.

I just put my AAMC ID number on there. Not sure I was supposed to do that...eek! Maybe I should call them on Monday to confirm?

Haha, yeah, my immediate thought as well. I think a lot of people will be acting quickly under the same assumption to catch the deadline and they probably are used to it.

When you sent in your financial aid materials did you receive any type of response indicating they had received it? I understand they must be busy right now so it may take them longer to make those acknowledgements.

I submitted on Friday and haven't gotten any. Joanna said we might want to give it for 5-6 days for the documents to be added to our file, but not sure if we'll get an acknowledgement. Did you email them to [email protected] as well?

I submitted my stuff and then emailed the verification form thing in with the question "please let me know if you need any additional information, i think i gave you everything" and they responded within 24 hours saying my application was complete

Yep. I completed the FAFSA and needaccess a while back. Some schools have sent an email when they received those items but Yale wasn't one of them. However, friday I submitted the YSM financial aid form on the website and the certification form via email. I haven't received any acknowledgement yet, which is understandable given it's only been 1 business day. I'm just nervous bc I submitted that latter quite late. Didn't know if I should expect acknowledgement of any of the items mentioned.

Did you email them you and your parents' W2, tax return?

As far as deadline goes, I was told that as long as we send in everything by Monday, all should be good.I just called and Joanna said they haven't been able to go through stuff that were submitted on Friday yet, understandably, but she did say an email acknowledgement will be sent as long as they got around to it.

Gahhh so nervous about these financial aid results.

Nervous about financial aid? Absolutely and rightly so. Without any aid I wouldn't be able to attend. As far as the W2 and tax returns go, those are not part of the March 16th deadline. Many won't even have those completed until later and estimates are used until they are.

When do we find out about our financial aid awards? Before, I was just begging the Universe for an acceptance. Now I'm begging for an award that won't put me into too many hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. We never can be satisfied, can we? 🙂

I'm also really curious to know when we'll find out about our awards. Is Yale going to be giving up that sweet cash?

So this is true? Because i turned everything in on time but I couldn't use the IRS data retrieval function on the FAFSA since my parents only recently completed their tax returns. My parents make well below 100k so I was hoping this wouldnt even be an issue considering Yale's financial aid policy

I have interpreted the following from their website. http://medicine.yale.edu/education/finaid/apply/how_to_apply.aspx
1. Must complete by March 16th: FAFSA, needaccess, YSM application including certification form
2. Must turn in eventually: copies of W2's, copies of signed tax returns, either IRS data retrieval or IRS transcript
Now if I'm missing something here or misinterpreted...then enlighten me.

Came home after a short trip: a thin letter from Yale? Didn't I got one EXACTLY like this one on Saturday already? DID THEY MADE A MISTAKE IN ACCEPTING ME? IS THIS A LETTER TO TAKE BACK THE ACCEPTANCE? NOOOOO...oh, okay, a congratulation letter from the Dean for accepted students. Whew!

I quite literally had the exact same thought process yesterday afternoon. We dodged a bullet there!

I like you.

Just got my financial aid award in the mail, guys! Sneak preview for those of you who are waiting - the need-based aid package really is generous! I think this might be the place!

That's a low blow. Sorry to hear that. Incredibly concerning too. I've never heard of that happening before. Maybe it was a mistake. I'd call and talk to the financial aid office ASAP!

I think I will... I'm pretty bummed... Yale was my top choice going into the cycle and it looks like now it might not happen 🙁

Keep hope that it was probably a mistake. Like i said i've never heard of that happening before. Freaks me out really and now i'm glad i haven't withdrawn from all the schools where I was accepted. I'm sure you haven't either so all is not lost and you've got some great options!

Who all can I expect to meet at Second Look this weekend? We need to come up with some way for us SDNers to introduce ourselves to each other. :hello:

I am sorry to hear about your financial aid package @ProbablyAPenguin. I don't know what your family situation is like, but my dad just retired and my mom is pretty much retired, so I think that made a tremendous difference for me. Perhaps if you're going to Second Look you might be able to discuss or even negotiate your aid package with the Financial Aid Office?

Not going to second look unfortunately. I've emailed the fin aid office and am waiting for a response! Not hopeful but worth a shot!

I emailed that office and got a very delayed response. I have been told it's better to call.
Ooooo yeah it's been a while lol maybe I should! Though last time I emailed them their response was super prompt! I'll give them a week 😛

The fin aid office said they are "super backed up on emails"
