Because they have explicitly talked with admissions and/or know someone who is directly involved in the admissions process. Just trying to help paint a more full picture of what's actually going on this year with decisions.
Yeah, but does it really matter if you're rejected that you don't know ahead of time for second look?
My point was just that admissions wouldn't want to be bombarded with phone calls by people who don't yet know their status and might be planning on going to second look if accepted.
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as snarky. I just don't like that people are freaking out over something that might have no weight. Especially since people are trying to infer things from that piece of information that may not be necessarily true (like WL/rejections coming next week; if they said first week of March, it's probably first week of March unless there's another fiasco like last year). But, I apologize, it seems like your info has more weight than I assumed.
Is it going to be that some people only get snail mail acceptances again?
I was more asking them about the timeline of acceptances being given out and they mentioned only calls and email, no snail mail (although I can't be positive on this). Did that happen to some people last year??
Yeah, last year some people waited the whole week only to receive a letter after they were told all reject/waitlist decisions had gone out. Then again, some people also received reject/waitlist emails after being told all the emails had already gone out and to wait for their letters 😛
Wow. Hopefully Duke's admissions team is a little more put together this year, although with the confusion that has been going on already, who knows if it is.

So no call by tomorrow afternoon means no acceptance?
I'm afraid that's what it means, but I wouldn't think it's over until I see a rejection letter and find out that IT IS OVER!
Do you mean emails aren't going out?
I'm pretty sure all accepted applicants will receive a phone call and letter, while emails are sent to those waitlisted and rejected.
Eh. I'd there's one thing I've learned throughout this process, it's that med school admissions officers are excellent at doing things in remarkably ineffectual ways. I was VERY impressed with the way WMed handled things, which proves it can be done...
I'm just basing my conclusion off the above posts and the fact I haven't received a call. It is possible that whoever spoke to @skinniminni was only referring to non-PCLT applicants. I tried to call just now and didn't get through. I guess we'll find out soon enough! (unless someone knows otherwise)
