2015-2016 Louisiana State University - Shreveport Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was informed by a friend that Shreveport offers a program the summer before MS1 to take courses to prepare for MS1. (Pre-biochem, pre-anatomy, etc) However, I cannot find this on the Internet anywhere. Can anyone shed some light on this program?
This program is through the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

It seems like there hasn't been a lot of interview invites going out. Am I the only one who is concerned about that?

I think the majority of interviews are in the spring, but this is just speculation.

Yes I agree. Still silence for me too and I'm getting a little worried. Based on last year's thread it looks like they got started a couple weeks later this year. Hopefully there will be a bunch between now and the beginning of December (fingers crossed)

Also if you've interviewed in years past, I hear they don't review you again until next semester unless you did ED. I had a friend interview recently who did last year as well and he was told off hand that they were surprised he was there, he wasn't supposed to be at that time.

Thank you! Is this program recommended? Do you know anyone who did it and if it helped? Also would you miss Camp Tiger?
A few people I know who did it said they felt it helped them get a jumpstart on adjusting to the pace and difficulty level of med school biochem and anatomy. But I don't think it'll give you a huge advantage over anyone else. It's not at the same time as Camp Tiger.
And yes, the pre-mat program is offered through the Office of Multicultural Affairs, but you don't have to be a minority to participate. I never applied for it, though, so idk what the criteria (if any) are for acceptance.

Dr. Kennedy told me the same during my meeting with him in May. He flat out told me not to expect to hear anything until January.

Have any of you three interviewed before?

Cool. Whatre the dates they offered? Congrats everyone so far. Hope y'all have a great thanksgiving?

Thanks. Happy thanksgiving to you as well.

They offered me dec. 8, dec. 15, and jan. 5. Before I scheduled my interview they said that dec. 8 and 15 each had only 6 spots open.

I have my interview on the 8th.

I got the same dates. My interview is the 15th.

This is my first time interviewing at Shreveport.

Interviewing on the 8th also.

I wonder if I could pick you out. It'll be like a game of CLUE. "Which of these people is the 'noodle champion'??"

Haha sounds like fun. This may be tough for you considering noodle is my dog. Unless I bring her with me which actually sounds like a great idea.

Still waiting here as well. Interviewed for the first time last year.

From what I hear they don't usually interview reapps until January

I applied last year, no interview. Still no interview this year..not a good feeling.

Reapp here. Acceptable list until late May last year. Still no II this time around.

Does anyone know on average how long it takes to hear your decision from an interview?

Thanks

Thanks man! It's been a long journey but is finally paying off. I'm hoping for your II too. Maybe they'll send it as an early Christmas present
Hopefully so. The gf just got her early Christmas present in that she received her acceptance to Shreveport. She has also been accepted to New Orleans...and I'm just sitting here with nada. You can say I'm a little stressed out...

Don't worry man there is still plenty of time. I will say though that it may be a good idea to start planning a plan B for what to do to make a better app for next year if you don't get in this cycle.

Anyone with interviews / acceptance care to share your scores ?
Reapplicant. Old MCAT: 14 BS/7 PS/8 VR. cGPA: 5.6 sGPA: 3.5. Post-bacc GPA thus far: 4.0. Accepted in October.

Hmm I havent. I was accepted about a month ago. What is it called? Maybe I can request an invitation.

I am on the Acceptable list. About how many people placed on that list get off of it?

Don't mean to scare you but I was on it from day one after ED and never got off or formally denied..

Work and keep updated them.

Are you still in school? People often get put on the list for many reasons, one being they want final grades for the entire degree. Another would be they're waiting to interview other candidates. After April 15 many people get pulled off the acceptable list because it's the deadline to accept or decline acceptances.
