2015-2016 Rush Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interpreted "nearing" to mean that there are only a few spots left. I could be wrong though.
Email sent on pre_second look: At this time, our interview season has concluded and Rush Medical College is holding firm with a class size larger than our matriculating class of 136. In preparation for the AAMC multiple acceptance deadline on April 30th, we would like to begin reviewing the application files of our current waitlist applicants in anticipation we will need to make an admission offer(s) in the months to come.

Email today: As accepted applicants continue to finalize their medical school decisions, we find our class nearing our matriculating size of 136.

So....the "email today" message is saying that the final "confirmed" students attending Rush is reaching the finalized 136? Damn that's a lot darker than I thought.

Well yeah...what did you think it meant? It's a very dark process.
I thought it meant "So many people dropped that we are no longer filled and are trying to catch up to our original class size". Jesus what was I smoking

Just got accepted off the waitlist today!!! Interviewed in February, was put on the priority waitlist back in March. Got a call from Jill today while I was at work, my coworkers thought I was crazy when I started yelling...oops

I know. I was devastated when I got waitlisted--I really want to go here. On the subject, is anybody on the "priority waitlist?" I've heard that term thrown around but there was no mention of it on second look day.

Actually I am on the priority waitlist. Still a little unclear on the details but the email I got when they informed me seemed optimistic. And I feel the same way about Rush, it has pretty much everything I value in a med school

pretty sure there is no priority waitlist. they specifically said they dont rank their waitlist...and they haven't yet re-reviewed waitlist applicants

Another waitlisted person at Rush asked me if I was on the regular or priority waitlist--this was the first I had heard of it. and I guess @elephant18 is on the priority waitlist.
Confirmed there is a priority waitlist. I feel slightly betrayed. Game over for me

Congrats dude!!! What is this priority waitlist I keep hearing about? They said their waitlist is unranked but this is the second time I heard of a priority waitlist.

Bye

So their waitlist is unranked EXCEPT for this separate thing called the priority waitlist. It consists of only 20-30 people I think and this group is ranked just a little bit higher than the rest of the waitlist. Priority waitlisters are given preference should seats open up in the incoming class. This is what I understood from it when I talked to someone from the admissions department.

Well considering their movement is usually <20 ppl.

Edit for posterity: Evidently, there is a priority waitlist (at least for this year) which initially really worried me because many were on the normal waitlist. But it is apparent from this thread that lots of people got accepted off the normal waitlist. Good luck to all the future applicants!

God this is just a huge kick in the teeth. I don't know why I bought the whole "unranked" thing. That's it for Rush then.
In this position, it's hard to not jump at any bone they throw at us. It definitely sucks, I'm sorry mate :/

There is still a smidgen of hope, so don't let COMPLETELY go

It wasn't even a bone. If they wanted to tell me that they would take ~20 people off the waitlist of like 120 people, so be it. It's not a good chance, but it exists. We never had a chance to begin with though.
Yeah if I think about it, it's kind of like they went "we'll pick twenty from this 120, so there's a chance you guys! But what we won't tell you in this presentation is we kind of pre selected those twenty people already, and notified them of it"

Accepted today off the priority waitlist! Really, really excited but feeling bad for those who feel misled

I told myself I wouldn't make an SDN account through this whole application cycle but this is it! I thought Rush was the gold standard for professionalism. I am on the wait list there. They looked me in the eyes and told me the wait list wasn't ranked. Unbelievable. I'm lucky to have an acceptance somewhere else and this WAS my number one choice, but I don't think that's the case anymore. I'm really sorry to all those on the wait list who traveled to second look day, especially the ones who came out of state.

As hurt as I am by the waitlist thing I choose to believe it wasn't a deliberate deception. Huge congratulations to those of you on the real waitlist...it looks like a lot of you will get a truly amazing opportunity in the next few days. Maybe next year Rush 🙁

I forgot that they invited waitlist-ers to second look day. Pretty uncool thing to do if there were two separate lists. I hope there weren't out-of-state-ers there.

I guess I just don't understand. It's not like medical school applicants are unaccustomed to bad news. And I met lots of people there from out of state.
Yep. There was an applicant that even flew in from her Africa trip too

So the first email for the priority waitlist sounded pretty optimistic. They basically said that everyone that was on it last year was eventually accepted. So, I don't want to give false hope, but I do think that there is a chance that people will be accepted from the normal waitlist as well. Stay positive people!

I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling that Rush might have some miracles in them for people on the regular waitlist. I've never felt so strongly that I belong somewhere. The week is still young.

I'm with you. I feel I may have jumped too quickly onto the train of anxiety and negativity, but I'm still holding out hope for us all

Does Americorps experience count toward volunteer hours for rush

Isn't it kind of in between a job and volunteering? I would think they would take it into consideration, but I doubt they would use the hours toward volunteer hours. I bet if you were close they would give you benefit of the doubt.

@bananafish94 this is another possibility why the page seems so empty.

Also, anyone know if they're pretty much done moving?

Well, it's far from the first time I've been horrendously wrong about something regarding medical school admissions. It sounds like their waitlist situation is a long and ongoing process. The chances are obviously quite low for me at this point but I'm grateful that I have a guaranteed interview next year.
