2015-2016 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone hear any news from the 23rd? Best of luck to everyone and congrats to those who've made it in so far. It's a beautiful thing to even get the chance to apply and no matter how many times it takes, we'll all make it!

So do acceptances come with a phone call or is it a letter in the mail either way?
For me it was an email and then a letter in the mail. But I'm overseas right now, so it would be very expensive to call me from US :greedy:

CCL letter came in the mail yesterday, but I'll be withdrawing soon, best of luck for those waiting!

Has anyone been accepted recently? I have been wondering when the last acceptance was handed out. Seems like most people recently are getting CCL.

When did you interview and when did you get the email??
I was in the second interview day of the cycle (September 30th), I was accepted on October 15th (that's the date of the letter), and I received the email 2 days later (no idea why they waited 2 days).
So I have not been accepted recently, but I think that would be helpful for the timing of the process.

Anyone who interviewed in February and onward at St. Luke's received acceptances?

Ahhh that's awesome! did you send in an update or letter of intent post-interview?

No, I didn't have time to send any update or letter of intent. In addition, I believe that letters of intent are sent after one is waitlisted.

I believe the wait list letter based on older posts does suggest sending in Update Letters but I don't think it'd hurt to send in an update letter if you are waiting to hear back! I think it's hard to find out a schools policy/opinion on letters so go with what you think is best!

Is there a last day to hear back from Temple? I interviewed 3/24 and have had no correspondence.

It may be a bit more time! It believe it depends when your interviewing physicians showed up to a committee meeting. I also think based on older posts that the school sends decisions in batches which may explain the recent flood of CCL letters.

I'm waiting to hear back as well and interviewed at the end of March! The admissions director on my day said to expect a 4-6 (?) week wait.

Definitely sit tight. We're all rooting for you!

To those on the CCL, have you been sending updates to the [email protected] email address? I have been doing so and did not receive a response to an update until my most recent one. The response was from [email protected], though. I am now wondering if they received my previous updates.

What do you guys think?

I've gotten responses from the mdadmiss email but if you want to make sure that your updates have been received, you can either call the office to check or just send it through the 'Send Us Stuff' link on the portal. When I called the office regarding sending updates, they said that it's easier to do it through the portal since it'll automatically be added to your file. When you send it to the email, someone has to manually attach it to your file so if you haven't gotten a confirmation email for your previous updates, I'd give them a call.

Can confirm! Just send through the "Send Us Stuff" Tab. As a heads up, the upload rate on the "Send Us Stuff" tab is crazy fast. As long as you see the confirmation that the file was uploaded on the same page after you hit submit you are all good! No need to call their office to check if they received it. This is what they'll tell you if you do.

Best of luck!

Can someone please let me know how they withdrew their acceptance?? Thanks
literally just email the admissions email address and say something like "Thank you for your time throughout this medical school application process. I wish to withdraw my acceptance from (INSERT SCHOOL NAME HERE)."

Anyone have any speculation as to when Temple would reach out to individuals who interviewed mid-late March? I know April 30th is a key day for individuals who are holding multiple acceptances but not sure what that day means for individuals who are waiting only for Temple. Excited and assuming that no news is good news for now!

I interviewed mid march and called recently to check on my status. The person wasn't overly helpful, but told me that they are "trying to finish up everything now" and I should call back in 2 weeks if I haven't heard anything. Was really hoping to hear back before traffic day, but what can you do? I have a feeling there will either be a mass acceptance/rejection email this/next week, or we literally were just interviewing for a spot on the waitlist (which I haven't received yet). Good luck though!

Really appreciate the response! Best of luck to you as well. I know there's a few of us on here in a similar boat, so I guess it's just a matter of waiting!

does anyone have information on an estimated Cost of Attendance for 2016-2017? I can only find tuition info. Thanks!

So does Temple need to give us an answer before Traffic Day? I mean it's the 27th now, should I be bothering them asking whats going on?

can non-PA residents switch state residency after the first year, and get the in-state tuition?

I received this in a general financial info email from them a few weeks ago (sorry, I haven't been able to create a table on the forum):

//////////////////////PA Resident /// Non-PA Resident
Direct Unsubsidized Loan Maximum: $42,722 /// $42,722
Direct Grad PLUS Loan Maximum: Approx. $34,000 /// Approx. $41,000
Institutional Scholarships*: TBD /// TBD
Student Budget for 16-17**: $76,737 /// $84,067

*Approximately 45% of the incoming class receives merit or need based Institutional Scholarships. Notification of Institutional Scholarships occurs between March and August. Students who have been offered Institutional Scholarships would decrease the amount/eligibility of the Grad PLUS Loan (by the amount of the scholarship) to stay within the student budget for 16-17.
**Student budget will be finalized once the tuition is set by the Board of Trustees in June. The budget may be adjusted based on the 2016-2017 tuition rates and University fees.

I emailed this exact same question to their financial office. The short answer is no. Apparently you have to live in Pennsylvania for a year and prove that the main reason of you living in Pennsylvania for that year was other than get education (which is kind of hard when you move there for med school).
If you want more info you can check the link they sent me:

"Please review the below link for PA residency guidelines from the University's Registrar's office:
http://www.temple.edu/registrar/students/registration/residency/definition.asp
On the left-hand side of the webpage, there is 'Pennsylvania Residency' link, with even more information and categories. If you have questions directly related to residency after reviewing the information, please contact the Registrar's office at[email protected], as they handle all inquiries and requests."

Have you tried calling the admissions office? You may get the same response as @WontGiveUp90 but may be worth a shot to find out their timeline. I interviewed a bit later than you (23rd) so I'm going to hold off on calling myself until it hits the 5-6 week mark.

Can schools accept you after traffic day if you are not on the waitlist. I.e you interviewed but haven't heard yet

There seems to be a few of us in this situation, so you're not alone! I gave them a call and they confirmed that decisions for those who haven't heard would be coming in the near-future, but that's all they could say. I however may be in a different situation than you both. I am waiting only on Temple, but I imagine if you two are holding acceptances elsewhere, the hearing before Traffic Day (April 30) issue arises. I imagine they are doing everything they can to inform us before then but if there are delays there are delays and we can only be respectful of their time. I am holding on tight and hoping for the best. No matter what, we'll all make it. I've been prepping for a second MCAT on May 6th and to receive an acceptance at Temple would be an absolute dream come true. It's so hard not getting distracted and side-tracked checking Student Doctor every 30 minutes in between practice sections but I'm keeping my head up and hope you all can too. Best of luck!

Getting the feeling this is gonna be a long ride. Looking back in this thread people interviewed early Feb and didn't hear back until like early to mid April.

Wouldn't give up too much hope! We can only speculate what's going on. If you look at last years thread. People got accepted on April 30th and May 1st. What that means this year since April 30th is a Saturday we can only guess!

For people that have sent in updates through the portal-can you see old ones or are they hidden? Wondering if my updates didn't go through...

I have sent in a few and there is no record of them. If it will make you feel better you could always call and check.

If you wanted the specific breakdown of living/food/books/insurance here it is! I went crazy trying to find it online and then I realized it was in the interview packet. Keep in mind it says it's for 2019 though.
