2015-2016 Temple University Application Thread

Would it be a waste of money to apply this late? I've already submitted the primary (and submitted to MANY other schools much earlier), but I feel like mmmaayyybbeee I can try? If it makes sense?

is temple a little slow with the II? just wondering because II seems to be given out to those complete in july. but then again I didn't read all 15 pages.

The dean of admissions came to Boston yesterday to try to recruit students. She said IIs were delayed because of the Pope's visit. Their interview cycle will run until April, and she said they have only sent out <50% of their IIs.

To answer the most recent post, she said it would be late to apply now, though she would not discourage anyone from applying. (Deadline for AMCAS is Dec. 15 and deadline for supplement is Jan. 15)

Anyone else interview in late October that has not had a status change? I'm five weeks out from my interview and still have yet to hear anything. The anticipation is killing me.

Received a letter indicating I've been placed on the "continuing candidates list." My interview was positive and I really like Temple, so I'm hoping for the best! Haven't been invited to interview at any other schools yet...

When did you interview?

Mrs. Zimmerman did say at the interview that they're trying to be more mindful about acceptances this year, since so many people accepted their offers last year and the waitlist wasn't really utilized. She said that when they choose someone to be on the CCL, it isn't a decision made lightly.

Sorry for the vague question, but could anyone describe a little about the interview day itself? Thank you

Interview day consists of a short info session, two interviews (one closed and one open), the clinical skills session, a school tour, and lunch.

When you check in with the admissions office, you will be given a folder with a ton of good information. The information will include the names of your two interviewers, where to meet them, a personalized schedule, and many other great goodies.

Then, there is a short talk about your day and TUSM, and your day begins. All applicants have a different schedule. For instance, I first had my closed interview first, then my open interview, and finally my skills session. They were all back to back, so I was done with the interview process before our school tour. The school tour was led by five or six current med students and consisted of a look at a few lectures halls, classrooms, the anatomy lab, and discussions about curriculum and med school life. After the tour, we had lunch with the students that led the tour. That was a lot of fun. For me, there was supposed to be a meeting with someone from one of the diversity groups, but they were unavailable at the time so I had a phone call with them the following week.

All in all, it was very informative, and I loved my time there. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Does the day really end around 3:30 pm? Or is it done a little earlier/a little later for some? Wondering about what time I should book my flight home, would a flight a 6:15 give me plenty of time, in your opinion?

there's some URM meeting after 3:30 that those invited can stay for. Some people have late afternoon interviews (3PM) whereas others got done with both earlier in the days. So I can't say when your day will end b/c the significant stuff really only goes on in the morning.

just be careful about traffic in the afternoon b/c it was deadly when I left. My flight was also at 6:15, and I had a late interview (ended early though probably only 25 mins), and I hit traffic, so I think you'll be fine, but I don't want to be the reason you miss your flight! lol

oh wow, I definitely didn't realize how variable the day would be, at least the interview email didn't seem to hint at that. Thanks for your help! I'll probably book the 615 flight and I'll pay a little extra to be able to change my flight until the day of, that way I can switch it to a later one if necessary (the next available one isn't until 10PM though so I'm trying to avoid that)

Thanks for your help!

I second the traffic issue, I almost missed my flight too

And at this time of year, you're going to have to start worrying about weather impacting flights too. Though so far the weather's been warmer than usual.

We can't tell you anything about the clinical skills activity since we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, but it's not something you should worry about. Just another way to get to know your preparation to become a physician. Don't sweat it and be natural.

Still "Under review" ... Does anyone know what percentage of interviews have already been offered or if I should count this as a silent rejection?? Really sad I haven't heard from Temple yet.

I had scheduled a flight around 5pm..definitely poor planning on my part. But I made my flight so you should be fine. You can take an uber to the airport for about 30 dollars.

Hey! I'm interviewing at temple soon and was wondering if the medical school will let me my luggage at their office or something? I am going from the school to the airport directly. Thanks

Yes! Lots of people did this, myself included.

Anyone have any recommendations for hotels in the area?

have they been on track as far as getting decisions to interviewees in the 4-6 week timeframe?

Did they say they were going to stick to the 4-6 week timeframe?

But to answer your question, no, not strictly at least.

Hey Temple Team™

I was told mid November that we should hear back before the next major holiday, which means before Christmas. So, the decision could come today or next Friday. I think they happen on Fridays.
I got my email on a Monday or Tuesday, though the official letter was apparently printed on a Friday

I interviewed on 10/8 and still haven't heard anything...anyone else in the same boat?
