2015-2016 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone interviewed here yet? Or are there any current students who could give an idea about what interview day is like and how the interviews are in general?

How did the interviews feel? Conversational, or reading off of questions?

The interviewers asked questions based off of my application. They definitely had some questions written out ahead of time, but all pertaining to my app. Very relaxed and conversational.

Thanks for the input! What would you say is your opinion of the school and their interview day, after having attended?

Absolutely loved it! Everyone was really friendly, the facilities were great (and pretty new), and the vibe of students was really collaborative and happy. It definitely made me rank it #1 on my list.

Awesome! 🙂 Can't wait to interview here next week!

Is anyone else interviewing on Tuesday?? I'm excited but also nervous...

So I was looking through the SDN interview feedback at this school and I saw that one of the interviewers from last year was extremely rude. Did the people who interviewed here this month get a rude interviewer as well?

I interviewed last year and no one on my day complained about a rude interviewer. Also, there is an anonymous survey you fill out online after you interview where you can provide feedback. I'm sure if there was anyone who was receiving multiple negative comments from applicants, they wouldn't be interviewing this year. Tufts is really high on student experience and feedback, so if there was an issue, they'd have addressed it.

Just interviewed here yesterday! The school is so so so impressive and I absolutely loved it. To anyone interviewing soon (or at any time), the interviews were incredibly laid back and conversational! They also told us this about 4-5 times before the interviews too, lol. Structure of interview day is multiple info sessions in morning, lunch, and then you're split up into 2 groups, either doing the tour first and then the two interviews or vice versa. Hoping for some good news Oct. 15!

anyone have any insights on how the post-interview process works? 🙄

No, I emailed one at a time. Over a week I emailed three people. Should I email more than one at a time?

I found someone but I emailed them in August for my interview in October. There might not be any available hosts.

Did you find someone?
Not yet. I would have taken care of it a long time ago if I had known the way they do it at Tufts 🙁
Other schools just receive your info and match you to someone.
Oh well worst case scenario it will be my first hotel of interview season.

I hope this doesn't come off wrong, but does TUSM send secondaries to everyone? I recently received one pre-verification and not sure if it's just awaiting an automatic rejection once I send it in. Trying not get my hopes up as I'm nothing special stats wise due to personal circumstance, but am URM and have some killer EC's.

Good luck to everyone!!

As far as I know tufts does not pre screen secondaries

I live in Somerville, work at a local healthcare nonprofit. Anyone wanting to save money is welcome to crash on my futon

is there any information on how tufts evaluates multiple mcat scores? especially in the case of having scores from both old and new mcat?

Found this on their website!

Many applicants to TUSM apply with more than one set of MCAT scores. Our policy is to consider all MCAT scores (taken within five years preceding enrollment) and note the highest MCAT total.

Does anyone who interviewed in September remember them saying we would hear on Oct 15th? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

Yep! I think we'll hear on that date or sometime around then. Accepted applicants get a phone call to boot!

Also, Tufts DOES have a post-interview acceptance rate of 55% right? I hope I'm not wrong about this and it's actually something like 25% 😱

Cool-thanks for confirming. Yep! According to MSAR, it's about 55%

Does that figure include acceptances from the WL as well? That would be great if it just for non-WL acceptances.

One of the MS4's who led my tour said that Tufts isn't really a wait-list movement school...and I also saw on past threads that people who got deferred rarely saw any movement. But I could be wrong, it might better for someone at Tufts currently to shed some light.

This is unfortunately true. Heard this from an adcom member. Waitlist is a tacit rejection.

I feel like this is becoming a trend across many med schools, I'm sure there are a few people that come off it as I remember meeting a couple people on second look that didn't end up attending.

Also, not sure when they will give the people accepted from September interviews a call but the admissions committee met Thursday Oct 1 so hopefully you guys will hear soon!

I'm nervous as all hell for October 15!!!

From what I have heard I believe the m17 and m18 classes had virtually no waitlist acceptances, not sure about most recent class. My year had a handful of waitlisters come in.

As one of the people who was waitlisted last year, I can vouch for this. Very little movement the last two years off the waitlist.
