Anyone have any thoughts on e-mailing Dr. Saguil? I'm trying to weigh if I should bother him or if I should hold off- this is in reference to trying to weigh holding off paying to prepare to take the MCAT again for the next admissions cycle or waiting to see what happens on the wait list. I am trying to hold onto a measure of hope while trying to exercise a level of caution in preparation that I don't get in during this admissions cycle. I know that he can't tell me where I sit on the wait list, but I am trying to lean forward in preparation in the event that I do have to apply next cycle. I'm sure he gets a lot of people asking him this same question around this time of year.

Im in the same boat as you so feel free to message me if you decide on enhancing next application with a new MCAT score. Im gonna' be doing that... feel ok about it although blahhh. :dead:

Me too!! Been studying for the new one to prepare for a June 2nd test. I bet retaking the MCAT is a big boost for your second application. At least I sure hope that's the case.

Ahh its a bit comforting to know others are going through the same thing! I bought my test for June 2nd as well! Though Im afraid Im falling a little behind on my study schedule because of work. Im a scientist at a pharm co. and a mom so... after my recent move to a different area in the city I have lost my "study rhythm" and have found it a bit hard to bounce back. I dont know about you but having people around that have the same goals or are doing the same thing helps! So, I would be more than happy to share any MCAT input or just words of cheer during this process if you would like hehe.

I took the old MCAT but wasnt able to study for it because of personal reasons, leaving me with a "low average" score. I feel confident that just giving myself the time to practice the concepts will work wonders. As far as the new material goes, I am done reviewing all the biochemistry material and find my self focusing on Behavioral Sciences. I took PSYCH about 9 years ago! So Its imperative that I make sure I review and practice that area before I go back and strengthen the "old MCAT" concepts that got me that initial "low average" score. Im just trying to find my balance back. I use to be on FIRE when it came to studying and all the recent changes in my life have required much adjustments. I hope I can get this boat up and running cause June 2nd is SO CLOOOOOOOOSE!!!!! haha. Anyways, I wish you all BUT ALL the success on both your MCAT and new application! Im here if you need someone who's hair is also about to fall down! hahahaha

I already signed up for the June 2 MCAT, too. 🙂 Hoping I won't need it but I'll have it reserved anyways. I don't look forward to learning biochem from scratch, but c'est la vie.

Team June 2nd! Hahah. I understand what you feel about biochem. I feel the same way about the behavioral sciences section . So far it has been ok to review it. Its just, though its an important topic and field well... Its also not the most interesting one for me hehe. Good luck on all!!!

Good luck to you and @CosmicGenes! Have you already taken Organic chem II? I'm in bio chem now and taking orgo2 first made biochem a breeze

Yes, I have. I graduated 2 years ago and to get my chemistry minor I needed to take both organic courses and biochemistry. I absolutely agree!!! Orgo II definitely helps a lot with biochem! It pretty much primes you with all the nomenclature, mindset, and "language" of biochem. Thank so much for all your good wishes! I send my good vibes your way as well!

For those that did not get the email from Dr. Saguil talking about the 20-25 spots that are opening in the next week or so, what is your status? Are any of you on the primary waitlist? Or are all of you on the alternate list?

I am on the primary list and didn't get that email. So maybe I'm too low on the primary?

I was just upgraded from alternate to primary a couple months ago.

Unfortunately no : (

I sure am ready to see some of y'all get pulled off the wait list though. : )

Me too. And I wish I could see myself still in the running but the Alternate waitlist seems like a long shot.

I really wish there would be movement soon, I am holding a spot at a DO school as well and they require $1000 deposit on May 2 that is non-refundable. USUHS is my first choice and the DO school my second. It would really suck to have to pay that deposit and lose the money if I got pulled off the waitlist.

Just a thought... you know... that is a very important decision to make and maybe its something you can share with your admissions counselor at USUHS. I'm sure he or she wont be able to tell you your position in the list, but Im pretty confident they can give you good advise and a view of how likely are you to get pulled off the list. That information may aid your decision making. Good luck and congratulations on your DO school acceptance!

I have email Dr. Saguil several times and his responses have been encouraging yet vague LOL. With statements like "you are in a good spot" and "I have strong hopes that we will find you a spot." I don't know if that is just him being positive or if he is trying to tell me without telling me that I will get pulled off the waiting list.

I think after what he went through during his medical school admissions cycle that is him trying to tell you without telling you that you will get pulled off. He obviously can't make any promises though. Hang in there!!!

Guyyyysss. Somebody is getting accepted today. I can feel it. Or maybe I'm just excited because that deadline date is rapidly approaching. But no really someone is going to get accepted today.

What is the deadline??

I am in the exact same situation.
I am holding all my hope in USU because I am unable to attend the DO school even though I was accepted.

My situation is similar to yours, then. I too received optimistic emails when I've asked for updates ("you are definitely in the running), but I just figured he was like that with everybody.

Just curious, how have y'all gone about asking for updates? I got the email and am dying to hear some news, but I don't want to feel like I'm over stepping or bothering Dr. Saguil.

I just thought of a specific question to ask him and sent him an email asking that question. Last week I asked him how many people were on the wait-list right after he sent the update email.

I think thats him being realistic and telling you you have good chances. He was very encouraging to me as well but never without loosing a realistic approach. For example, as I am in the Alternate waitlist he commends me for all the hard work Im currently doing and was honest enough to tell me there has been no movement from alternate waitlist in the past so a good approach would be to prepare for my next application. He is excellent and I greatly appreciate his honesty. As our friend here said, he wont be able to make any promises, so telling you that you are in good spot is probably as good as it gets. Congratulations on that! Woot woot!

As far as your particular situation goes... I think it will only be a matter of hopefully getting pulled before the deadline so you can decline your other school. If I was in your position I would keep close communication with both schools so you can keep yourself updated with the movement at USUHS and at the same time keep the other school in the loop and aware that you are still interested in them.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! :highfive::soexcited:

A week ago i wrote saying that since it's getting late in the cycle, I'd like to turn an eye toward the coming season. I asked whether i could phone him about it. He responded by saying that it isn't over yet and to stay optimistic. Not as encouraging as with others and didn't say whether i could call. 2 days, later the most recent update email came.

He's staying more optimistic than we are. Absolutely awesome.

For those of you who have received positive encouragement from Saguil, what branch are you on the waitlist for?
