Has anyone that was complete in August gotten an II yet? I was complete the first week of August and I'm trying to keep busy and not think about it. I got an unsolicited "We have received all your materials" email about 2 weeks ago.

I've been complete since July. My stats are lower than there average so not sure if I'll get an invite but fingers crossed!! I technically work for USUHS by assocation (sort of complicated) and I have a LOR from a professor there. Just trying to be patient that is the hardest part.

Same, man. Complete the first week of August. Heard of a pattern showing they send II's every 3 weeks on Tuesday. Last day was Aug 25th. That would make us due Sept 15th. We'll see....
 
Did anyone receive a confirmation e-mail after sending in their SECNAV 5512 form? I sent mine in over a week ago and haven't heard back.

I got a confirmation email. When I went for their open house, however, my parents, who came with me, got confirmation emails but I didn't. When I got there, they said they did receive the form and I was all set for base access. I would just call them to confirm.
 
What branch are you guys interested in? I can't decide between army and navy...

Navy because I am already active duty Navy. I will tell you it really depends on what you want to do, but if it's truly a toss up, Army has more spots.

Army. Most men in my family are Army. Also have Navy and Air Force in the family though haha so I'm fine with any branch.
 
I am heavily leaning towards Navy. Great looking base locations (I love the ocean) and the opportunities to be UMO seems unique and a cool way to be involved in the Navy beyond just being a doc. Plus I have had some career sailors in my family!

Branch preference has no bearing on an acceptance correct? On the preference sheet can I select that I "strongly desire an appointment in this service" for all three services if I prefer Navy but would accept any position they offered me?

It doesn't have a basis for acceptance BUT if accepted for your primary branch and spots for that branch are full, your acceptance will mean a waitlist spot. That's what happened with me last year. So you're right but it does have some affect.

So in my situation if I had chosen Army I would be at USUHS this year instead of applying again.

Did they only offer a waitlist spot? Or will they ever offer a spot in a different branch instead of the waitlist?

I think by the time my conditional release went through (another hurdle of active duty) all services were full. Also I think my release only applied if I stayed Navy.

Very relaxed interviews, completely conversational. Talking to other interviewees, experiences will differ. Everyone I had the opportunity to interact with (faculty, current students, other interviewees) were incredibly friendly and positive, it's hard to say no to an offer if it comes.
 
What kind of questions did they ask? Was it mostly like why you were interested in military medicine? What time did you have to be there?

The only question I distinctly remember is what I felt would be the most difficult part of going to school there. 98% of the interview time was really just talking about different things, from hiking around Yosemite to how military healthcare may change in the future.

They will almost certainly reference background info and activities you mention in AMCAS or your secondary, so be prepared to talk about items on those.

Check-in time is 7:30, actual start of the day is at 8.

Do you mind posting your GPA/MCAT stats and extracurriculars? I have a 3.28/36. My low GPA is mostly because of laziness in my first go around in college, and one quarter at a community college in which I withdrew from a quarter late and received 0.0 in two science classes because of it. In my last 4 years of school I have a GPA around 3.85. Active duty Army experience with deployment, 50 hours of physician shadowing, 200 hours hospital volunteering. I didn't have any research experience when I submitted my primary and secondary, but since then I have started a job in a medical research job. I applied last year and only got 1 interview from my only instate school (University of Washington), but I wasn't accepted. I talked to the dean and she told me that one of the primary reasons for my rejection were my essays. My motivations for wanting to become a physician weren't sufficient or I just didn't articulate them very well. So I rewrote my personal statement, along with all of my experience descriptions. I'm just trying to gauge my chances of getting in. USUHS is the only school I'm applying to this year because I didn't apply there last year, and I didn't want to reapply to any schools until I could add something significant to my application (like my research experience).

Sure. I interviewed last year for USUHS on October 23rd and was wait listed.

I have a 33 MCAT. My GPA is a 3.12 but that is a 2.8 from my initial undergrad (11-14 years ago) and a 3.86 for my masters degree and additional postbac undergrad. So my stats are a little hard to compare depending on how a given school views GPA repair or more recent coursework.

Soadhead, I am pretty similar to you. Except lots of research, not enough clinical last year. Rejected from in state school for the exact same reason (even the same wording)..."I couldn't articulate why I wanted in." I went out and got more clinical experience, wrote way better essays and I already had my in-state interview which went very well this year. I hear a lot of anecdotal evidence that my instate likes to see people reapply because it shows their commitment. I'm feeling pretty good about it and would encourage you to send in an app to you instate, they may just be looking to see if you show up again!
 
Is anyone aware of the chances of getting a waiver denied for multiple surgeries/metal in my body even if I have been cleared by an orthopedic physician?

Thanks for the input, and I might just try reapplying at UW this year instead of waiting until next year.
 
Does anybody know what time of day they generally send the II?

If it is cleared medically by the military (different than a surgeon saying you are cleared for something like sports) then it will end up being fine, but in general, anything that reduces your ability to do anything is very hard to be waivered. This is military in general, not USUHS specific btw.

Thanks! Yeah I have full function of my entire body no issues there, just the fact that I have had surgeries.

Yeah it's usually only an issue if there is a lasting impact from the injury, but there's always a small chance of any waiver being declined.
 
For anyone who received an interview invite recently, what day is your interview scheduled for? Trying to see the pace of the invites compared to last year (Unfortunately I'd already had an interview invite for about 2 weeks at this time last year. Something I shouldn't have looked up because now it just worries me).
 
II today for October 22nd. I am a civilian and have a preference for Navy because a lot of my family were in the Navy (including a Navy doc). However, I would be more than happy with Army as well. I am wondering if by the time I interview most of the Navy spots would be filled and it would be better to select Army as my top choice. I want to practice military medicine and would rather practice in the Army than get waitlisted and rejected to Navy this cycle.
 
I just got the II for October 22nd!!! I'm incredibly excited! Top choice branch is army. For anyone curious about stats, my MCAT was pretty average, my GPA was also rather on the low-average side because of my first few years at CC, but 4.0 the past couple years at uni. Some military affiliated non clinical volunteering, plenty of clinical experience as I work in the medical field. Good luck everyone! I hope this is the lucky week for all of us!
 
I have also received the II for October 22nd! I applied last year and interviewed December 4th when all of the Navy spots were filled and there were some spots available in the Air Force and the Army. I remained on the wait list throughout the cycle. I am really excited for this opportunity. Congrats to everyone who has received interview invites so far! I look forward to seeing those with interviews on October 22nd!

I can't vouch for this year but by the October 23rd interview last year all Navy spots were full already.

I interviewed last week, on the 10th, and I am almost 100% certain that USUHS conducts interviews every Thursday during the cycle. There was about 40 of us at the interview. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!
