Hey, it was a real pleasure meeting you. Sorry, I forgot to shake your hand on the way out-- busy thinking about that ridiculous traffic. Best of luck to you!

LTC Saguil must've been tired after today's interviews lol. Anybody got a call?

What the CHUCK! Guys I need help. I cannot believe I have finally succumbed to actually joining student doctor network (instead of just stalking all of you and being jealous)... but I have a serious problem & I am hoping someone will tell me it's not that big of a deal (please God). My interview is on the 29th and at 1:00AM this morning I realized that it was the 16th... which means I basically have missed the 2 week deadline to turn in the "secnav5512" form. That's the one that they make a huge deal about like everywhere about how you MUST have it emailed in TWO WEEKS PRIOR to your interview. I don't have a scanner in my apartment, so at best I can turn it in tomorrow morning which will mean it will be 13 days prior instead of 14 days. Did anyone else do this and have it turn out okay? I am so upset with myself. The form has been filled out for so long and it is just sitting on my desktop waiting to be printed out at kinkos. Someone please comment!! I am going crazy. At this rate, I am going to be worrying about it all night, not sleep, then finally fall asleep in the morning and miss another day. Just another day in the life of this girl. I would laugh if it weren't true and if it wasn't my life. <3 help!

Turn it in asap

If it is too late a current student can get you in, hopefully you get a host, but if you don't maybe somebody else on sdn will get one and you can coordinate coming on base with their host

I just withdrew my II and application here. hope it goes to a deserving student.

Hey! Just turn it now. As for some reassurance, my interview is in 6 days and I just got an email from Ms. Baker telling me I needed to turn mine in today by 3PM if I need to turn it in for base access. I'm sure they prefer it within 2 weeks but just get it in ASAP!

Are any current military members planning on wearing their service dress uniform to the interview?

I would recommend it. Everyone at my interview last year who was active duty showed up in uniform. It's not a requirement, but I asked admissions and they recommended it as well.

Thanks, will do! I'm a reservist and haven't worn my blues for a while, so I'll work on getting them together these next few weeks!

hey thanks everyone for responding ! you have NO idea how much better I feel now! I thought I had definitely lost the interview...

are you sure it was this form?? the secnav5512?

Let's hope for some weekend calls!
On Thursday I wished Dr. Saguil good luck with the remaining phone calls. He said they were done for the week, so don't ruin your weekend obsessively checking your phone/the board!

I was a little saddened when i realized that LTC Saguil never got around to playing that Army promotional vid after having shown the other services. That was a costly tour of the residential area on the way to Sim center..

Has anyone received a host confirmation or base access confirmation for the 20th? Wondering if I need to book a hotel for the night before...

Haha yeah I mentioned that to him, he said the Army doesn't need promotional videos. BTW for those of you interviewing on future dates, he indicated to us this past week that we were likely interviewing for spots on the waitlist although I'd imagine that varies a great deal depending on the service. At any rate their waitlist does always move a bit.

This has been true in the past, however, I want to let you all know that last year Dr. Saguil informed me that they saw slower waitlist movement for the 2015 cycle than in previous years. Others on the waitlist and myself did not see as much movement as we had expected last year. Hopefully that was an off year and this cycle will have quicker waitlist movement for those who will be on the waitlist! I know this is early yet to be talking about the waitlist, but I wanted to let others know while it was on my mind.

For those who are interviewing this Thursday, I look forward to meeting you and best of luck!

Can anybody tell us what kinds of questions to expect for the USUHS interview? What kinds of things do they really care about that we should be ready to discuss?

Someone please tell me the difference between "security paperwork", SF86 and SECNAV form.

One form says if you hold a clearance we need to turn in verification but don't need the SF86. Another email said to complete "security paperwork even if you have security clearance".

I hold a clearance and have a military ID. I hold base access. Do I still have missing paperwork? (Sent this email to them as well just looking for earlier clarification if I can)

If you have a military ID you don't need to complete the SECNAV form, but let Ms. Baker know that so she doesn't think you just forgot to turn it in.

I did the SF86 just in case, although they ended up pulling my current clearance during verification anyways. Erring on the side of safety has served me well.

I asked last year and was told to do the SF86 anyways. I did.

Ok perfect so the security paperwork that they say have to be turned in two weeks prior is nothing I should be concerned with? (Because I am already late if that's the case)

Ah yes. That's for base access. If you have a military ID you don't need it.

It varies greatly depending on the person who interviews you since they basically just tell their interviewers to keep it low key and to not talk about grades and scores. It seems that they care that you've really thought about the consequences of military medicine and that you are prepared to make that commitment with an informed decision. By the time you interview you have been told many of the benefits already. I think the best way to prepare for your interview is to think about life after USUHS because USUHS compared to any other program is incredible, post USUHS life is the real sacrifice. They understand that the waitlist moves quite a bit, but they still try to find people that are truly interested in military medicine to keep that down. To a degree, my interviewer did the same with medicine in general, though many of the people I talked to didn't really talk about medicine in general to0 much.

That's my impression after my interview anyway, I'm sure others have some insights on the matter.

I think dextertrip is right when he says that they want very much to gauge your commitment to military medicine-- to see whether you know what you're getting yourself into. So, you might expect questions along those lines. I think I may have had a slightly different variety of questions, perhaps having to do with me being prior military (which I don't know if you are). I got a lot of questions about experiences as a leader as well as a follower, and where I have both succeeded and failed in either capacities.

I did get pressed hard on a question about what to do about patients in certain hypothetical situations where I felt like there were no good choices, however. I'm not sure what the purpose of these questions were, but we talked for about 50 minutes. I'd say that I really enjoyed the conversation (and it did often feel like a conversation), though there were some awkward moments.
