2015-2016 University of Arizona - Phoenix Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am really grateful that the folks at UACOM Phoenix are willing to share information about their numbers and application process. It is reassuring to have this kind of transparency and not feel totally clueless about the process. Really appreciate all the info🙂

Sorry that you feel forgotten - never our intention. We are beginning to move decisions out bi-monthly, including post-interview decisions, as well as those who will not be granted an interview. Today was also the last day to submit an AMCAS for this cycle, so we hope things begin to slow down over the next few weeks. Supplemental deadline is Dec 1.

Our work is at full-steam right now. Not whining, but sharing so that you know it's not an attack on premeds.

---5000+ AMCAS received
---3000+ supplemental received
---Hundreds of files being screened weekly
---In the thick of interviews
---Just completed round 1 acceptance decisions

LOTS happening in admission offices, nation-wide.

Patience is a virtue. Stick with us, and your other schools. Remain positive, professional and keep working hard and serving your community. Do not let up on this goal, even if it's not realized this cycle.

As a coach (mentor, not athletic - haha, so not a track athlete!) once said to me, "run through the tape." Never quit until the race is over.

If I may ask then, if I am not hearing anything from UA Phoenix, when is the latest that I'll hear back?

We will make all pre-interview decisions no later than mid-Dec.
Wonderful! It's nice to find out before the new year. Please spread our gratitude to your committee members for giving us applicants definitive closure before the new year. It must be a lot of work, but it is truly appreciated by us applicants!

Rejected post interview. So sad it was my favorite I interviewed at but it's a lot easier to take rejection when 2 other schools gave me acceptances. I guess it's like the draft- it only takes one and playing for the Jets vs. Patriots either way you're a pro--- either way I'm gonna be a doc.

Good luck to everyone else still in the running!!

Jets are 4-1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (just sayin')

Congrats on your other acceptances!

Hey guys! I'm a little late to the party. My application was just finalized and submitted with MCAT score on 10/14. Just wondering if the secondary is in addition to the supplemental or if those are the same thing...? Seeing everyone talking about the II and I'm just wondering if I should be waiting on something other than the supplemental app.

The secondary is the supplemental. I'd be sure to turn it back in asap after you receive it.

Thanks for the Reply BamaNicole! I submitted that right away, LOE's are in, just waiting to hear back. I can't believe I'm actually doing this. Med school has been on my mind for years, and I finally decided to pull the trigger 🙂 Best of luck to all of us, and congrats to those who are getting the awesome news this week!

I am sooooo excited!!! I'm OOS, invited for an interview, and I cannot wait!! This is my favorite school, and I thought it was a long shot because of my out of state status. I can hardly sleep I'm so excited. I love the curriculum and the facilities, the downtown location, and cannot tell you how valuable the transparency in the admission process is. I'm so impressed with this place. Good luck everyone and I'm looking forward to meeting other interviewees, staff, students, professors, and seeing the campus on Nov. 2nd! Go us!!!:highfive::soexcited::bow:

When were you complete?

I have no idea. I don't neurotically track dates and scores and compare. I am just doing my thing here as a post-bacc and working full time, trying to keep my sanity

I couldn't care less about scores because I don't think they are a good mark for success in this process. I only ask about the complete date because I"d like to know when they are getting close to reviewing my app! I would say it's more impatience than neurosis.

Just for you I have signed in to AMP- looks like 8/5? That's when I submitted and my fee was received but I don't know if that is the date you're looking for. I'll send all my extra patience your way; it is so important  I have just accepted that I have done all I can do and the rest is out of my control, aside from improving my application to reapply should that be necessary. I hope I didn't sound P/A- I am constantly asked about complete dates and LizzyM scores and I just don't track all of it! Best of luck to you though!

Awww, thanks! I'm working on the patience thing. Maybe I will have developed it by the end of this application cycle. Congrats on your interview and good luck!

Admissions tracker is at 200 interviews given already.
Complete 8/18 and I'm ready to give donate one of my kidneys to this school to hear something

In your boat too man. I am ready to hear a rejection letter anytime now... 1.5weeks of my sweat and heart on their secondary, and a Benjamin on this school... just for a silent rejection.
+pissed+

If it doesn't work out, I will hope that another door opens in its stead. Good luck, bruh

🙁 same boat here! I was complete 7/27 and I've heard nothing. At least we will all know by mid December, even though that sounds really far away.

It gets worse... A few people have posted this week that they got IIs. And there's no telling how many people haven't posted it on SDN. That tracker hasn't been updated since October 12th so there are even fewer interview invites left. 🙁

As i have said before... 1.5 weeks of my life and 100 dollars was in that Secondary. I hate to sound entitled and I understand there were others who out-shined me for this cycle. But it still bugs me that all of my toil/effort was for a rejection letter that will be sent to me four months after my submission.

the minimum we can do is just wait until the end and let them do their jobs... after all I did pay them 100 bucks to read my essays/CV, thus I am not gonna make their jobs easier

There is no such thing as a silent rejection. If you're rejected, you know it because you're told. If you're not hearing anything, you are still under review. From my understanding, decisions come as the reviewers turn them in. There's rejections that have been given out so its okay...you're still in the running.

Has anyone received rejections this month yet?

I think some people got some 2 weeks ago, but I haven't seen any since then. They should be coming out soon though because I think Dr. Cunningham said that they're moving to a bi-monthly decision process for those too until the end of the cycle.

I'm from Michigan, I've been living in Phoenix for the last 7 months, however I have not officially updated my license yet. I still have a MI license, so I am technically OOS. I've been working as a Medical Scribe for the last 7 months in South Phoenix in an interventional Cardiologist's office. I absolutely love it here in Phoenix and plan to spend the rest of my life here, which I made clear on my app. My file was complete 9/16, 34 MCAT, 3.7 BCPM, 3.1 CGPA (Due to a couple semesters of bad grades right after high school, very strong upward trend. CGPA of 3.9 the last 4 years of college). U of A-P is by far my top choice. Any opinions on whether or not my odd residency status will help me get an II??

If it did affect it, I'm not sure that being an OOS student would necessarily be a boon, regardless of your ties to the state. Many of the OOS students in my class have no ties whatsoever to AZ. Your application is far and away more important than where you live.

Thanks for the quick response! The 6 week mark is coming up and it's killing me.

Rejected, no interview, OOS, good luck guys, hopefully I'll see you all in residency somewhere

I am OOS & still running but scared I will be in your boat by the next round. Luck to you mayne; may another door open in UA Phoenix's stead

wishing u lots of success on the rest of the app cycle!

i was wondering what your stats were and when you were complete? really hoping to hear from the school soon!

California resident, cGPA and sGPA: 3.84. MCAT 34. SR 7/22 SS 8/18 R 10/15. Didn't have any ties to Arizona.

Well... it seems I might as well withdraw my secondary after I hear from other places. MCAY 30, cGPA 3.78. Ready for Review August 11, 2015. With no ties to ARizona

@awetmop no need to withdraw, it's a waiting game. You either get rejected or you don't. Even with acceptances, if you have the finances, it's always good to look at different places. I've been ready for review since 07/13, OOS, no ties to AZ.

I was joking because another person with higher stats were rejected. Statistically it may seem unlikely because including the upcoming cycle, there are four more rounds of IIs offered if my math is right. It's just that I will be slightly irate if they kept us until the end - which is mid-December.
