2015-2016 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha how is UC Davis already on mid Feb interviews? They haven't even gone through half the apps yet (probably).

Rejected pre-secondary. Ouch. I thought I had a shot at a secondary at least.

Rejected post interview (9/11) about 30 minutes ago. I was also one of the "decision delayed" people 🙁 This was my #1 top choice school. Best of luck to everyone else waiting to ear back!

Rejected Post-interview 9/4/15. Good luck everyone. A bit of a heart-break. "decision delayed" person.

Rejected presecondary. I'm really glad they did this rather than keeping it all silent until July. Respect 🙂

wow, UC Davis with the bombshell/self confidence blow. I was also rejected pre-secondary.

A little bit on in a state of shock... but thankful it wasn't someplace that I had higher hopes for. There were times where I forgot I even applied here, because it has been so long to hear back.

Pros of being rejected pre secondary: 1)having to fill out a secondary this late in the cycle... there need not be any other pro lol...the secondary is a MONSTER. 2) saved the fee 3)I have heard from a few people that the MS at UCD are really cutthroat and hard to connect with 4)I heard it is in a bad area

Cons of being rejected 1) I really wanted to go here. 2) In state tuition 3) UC school 4) I mean it aint no UCLA so I thought I was competitive enough (prolly had something to do with my low VR score) 5) I [somewhat] fit their mission. i can elaborate if asked 6) Sacramento sounds like a pretty cool fun to explore/experience
Per the rejection email they received 7000 applicants for 110 spots. That really aint that much. 3500 per 55 spots... I think it may be the most generous UC... Correct me if I am wrong

Oh well. Good luck to the rest.

Now I'm nervously awaiting the rejection email.... Maybe it had trouble flying to the east coast... I shall bravely wait!

This, pretty much word for word other than a week different interview date. Sorry to quote, but I'm exhausted and now sad.

I wish the best to everyone else out there: congrats to those who have made it in, and good luck to everyone who didn't make it here...remember there are plenty of schools out there!

3) This is probably as non-cutthroat a school as it gets, and the students here are (in my biased opinion) very easy to connect with.

4) Not a bad area really, though depends on where you are coming from. I would say about average for any city of comparable size.

Best wishes to you and all those who were, unfortunately, rejected.
is your med apps from this year or last?

I just want to back up @pDeluxe and reiterate that Davis's is the ideal image of NOT cut throat. The pass/fail system without ranking has something to do with it, but Davis is prettttty good at selecting people who are community-oriented and always willing to help. I've never, EVER had a problem with anyone being cut throat and unfriendly - people are generally very collaborative.

The campus also isn't in a bad area - definitely above average, as @pDeluxe said, but not super cushy/posh. There's definitely "character" around the medical center, but as a petite woman, I've never felt unsafe walking around at night (and the character makes for a more diverse patient population).

I'm sorry you were rejected. Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

Rejected yesterday (11/7) pre-secondary. Was a long shot I guess.
added to primary on 8/24.

Does Davis do post-secondary, pre-interview rejections throughout the cycle or is it just a mass wave of rejections at the end?

Would like to know too. Have had nothing but silence from davis

Rejected post-interview by email on Saturday, was initially in the delayed group. Good luck to everyone still holding out!

Anyone from the October interview groups heard back yet?

So sorry and good luck with the rest of your cycle. When were you complete if you don't mind me asking?

wow, I'm surprised so many people waited so long to apply. When I first heard someone saying "rolling admissions" that automatically registered in my head as "apply early".

Very sorry if this has already been asked, but does Davis accept pre-interview updates? Can't find that info on their website.

How did you feel your MMI went, if you don't mind me asking?

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with acting MMIs? This is something I'm a bit uncomfortable with! 🙁

Rejected pre-secondary today.

Applied 10/4, LizzyM 77, ISS, paid clinical experience in rural underserved primary care for over a year. Honestly, it sounds like they're just about full at this point based on when people are saying they're interviewing.

Quote of the email:
Thank you for applying to the UC Davis School of Medicine. Your application was thoroughly reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a position for the entering class. We receive over 7,000 applications for a First Year class of about 110, the Admissions Committee faces an extremely difficult task. You have our best wishes for success in your future endeavors.

I would suggest you read sample scenarios online to have an idea of what to expect, and do mock MMIs until you feel comfortable. My best advice is to be your confident self.

I have heard nothing from them. No Reject, No II, Nada.

I interviewed on 10/30 and haven't heard anything yet... a little worried since it's past the 2 week mark now D:
anyone else hear back at all?!
I interviewed on 10/30 as well. I haven't heard anything either. It's driving me crazy. I just want to know either way. They did say 2-4 weeks though.

I haven't heard back anything either. Anyone else on the same boat? 🙁

Interviewed 10/30. Received the waitlist email a few minutes ago. Anybody have any insight as to the chances of being accepted off the waitlist?

Interviewed 10/30, and just received the wait list email as well. Not the news I was hoping for, but not going to give up hope!
