2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone else find this processes of scheduling interviews incredibly archaic? Every other school has an automatic system and what you see is what you can sign up for. Their website showed multiple dates open in November and December and I called and it was full until late January... Also if you want to change your date you need to call admissions to even see what is available.
Yo, having trouble finding these elusive interview dates - would you happen to have a link?
Can't seem to locate them in my status page.

It's on the status page here: https://services.com.uic.edu/appstat/, but you can only see them if you were invited for an interview and have not yet scheduled it.

Edit: you also need to click on the "Next" button to see them from the main page.

Thank you! I mistakenly assumed that the secondary app included a status page.
Interview scheduled!
Good look to everyone.

I've changed from "Applicant in process" to "Application is in process"..does anyone know the difference?
Thanks!

I think a few pages back (page 15) @frenvedd posted the "dictionary" of the many status updates. "Application in process" looks like a hold until further review.

What percent of people interviewing receive an acceptance?

Oops I forgot to post my stats.
Complete 7/28, received interview invite 11/12.
IS, 3.93, 514.

Hey everyone, just to talk off the post above if anyone cancels or reschedules an interview for late November or December can you please shoot me a message? I'm an IS resident with family who live in Chicago but currently going to school out of the state. I would love to stay with my parents prior to the interview. I didn't anticipate all of the Chicago spots being taken and would be forever grateful if I can pick up a spot! Thank you!

Just checked my status and it now says, "Applicant is Impatient". What does it mean??
🤣

Sorry that you're still waiting though, hang in there! (I'm still waiting too!)

I think they try to give you your first preference. Because you got in so early, you have a really good shot of getting Chicago.
Also, I was able to see my site placement on the portal. Did you get an email about making login for my.uic?

I submitted my site preferences the day I got my packet and haven't gotten a login email. Did everyone already get one??

For anyone still sitting "in process", "in progress", etc., I just had a lovely conversation with someone from admissions who explained a bit of the workflow. Once you're application is complete (secondary, LORs, fee, etc) it is eventually sent to a reviewer (there was no mention of the timeline for this). Once with the reviewer, it takes 6-8 weeks for them to review your file. From there it is put in front a the committee and a decision is made: reject, interview, continue to review. I know the numbers are estimates and not hard-and-fast deadlines, but you should not feel down if you've been "in progress" for a month and not heard anything.

This is everything I was told so if you have questions I doubt I could tell you anything more.

THANK YOU for calling and for sharing! This does bring about a little bit of clarity. It seems like "progress" means it's been forwarded to the reviewer and "process" means it's been forwarded to the voting committee. And perhaps a switch from "process" back to "progress" means that the app is continuing to be reviewed.

At least it makes sense in my head! Trying to decode the mysterious inner workings of admissions offices has made me a little crazy. :dead:

I wouldn't try to over-think it. For me, I'm basically using it to assume there is a max review of about 4 months - 2 months to get to a reviewer and 2 to get reviewed. I'm sure there's someone who'll comment saying "I was complete mid-July and still in-process, so you're full of s**t.", but it's my rationalization.

Lol just kidding, i was complete mid-August, so its getting close to that 4 month. Thanks for calling and verifying though!

has anyone gotten their site preferences back? how do they determine it??
Hey 123Sploosh,

UIC tries to balance out each of its campuses with gender, race, non-trad, etc. This creates as diverse of a class as is feasible within the applicants who are ultimately offered acceptance. Typically the sooner you interview, the higher chance you have of getting your top choice. That being said UIC does switch things around often so getting an interview later in the game doesn't doom you to Chambana or Peoria if your heart isn't set on going there. It's also possible to ask for a transfer request but typically these are only granted to certain circumstances.

I'll gladly go to Rockford or Peoria if they let me in. I'll stay in an underground bunker for four years if they let me in, quite frankly.
Haha very fair, stay positive though! You'll never know what can happen in a cycle. I can tell you for sure that it's far more than a numbers game these days.

Today is the third thursday of the month, so I believe the adcom is meeting today....here's hoping, I guess!

Complete early September, IS and and still in progress :/

sad panda

I'm even worse. I was complete Aug 1st, IS and am still in progress lol. There was a huge wave of snail mail rejections around this time last year. I wonder if it's time yet...

The committee must've met today. Statuses changed!!

Is this what an acceptance likely looks like?

Balls. Interviewed 3 weeks ago but my status still says "Decision pending." I was hoping they'd decide on me today...guess I'll have another month of waiting. Gah I don't know how much longer I can wait without ****ting myself.

Last month they didn't update til the day after. They may be spreading it out.

Still decision pending UGH
Interviewed 9/14 losing hope here >___<

How is interview day in Urbana? Are the questions more relaxed/conversational or more of the "why do you want to become a doctor, why UIC" and the like?

Did my undergrad here, completed around the same time, and I'm in the same boat haha

Has anyone who interviewed mid/late October or after had a status change?

I'm wondering the same thing. I interviewed around then and they said at the interview that they expected to give us decisions by the end of November.

Yeah, no update here either. But, I think we had fewer people waiting on updates than we did last month.
