2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My PI works in MD/Ph.D admissions and was talking about the process with me, and I'm assuming that MD admissions are similar. He says that they interview people, score their application, and every time they meet they have a certain score above which automatically gets an acceptance, and below which gets a waitlist. Every subsequent week the threshold score for acceptance gets a little bit lower, which explains why people are often accepted months after their interview. But seeing as they are done with interviews and this is their last month for their regular meeting, I don't see a possible reason why they wouldn't decide on everyone at this time.

Buddy of mine got an interview and acceptance in June 2 years ago... I just really don't believe that they have finished interviewing if you want me to be honest ..

Your friend got an interview in June? I mean, I guess stranger things have happened but that's just ridiculous. Then again they originally said they were interviewing into March and evidently extended it to mid-April. But I haven't seen any interview invites posted here in a long time.

The M2 I interviewed with said that one of his classmates interviewed and got accepted in June so I guess it's definitely a thing lol

Wow, that's interesting! I can't help but feel that there was some kind of weird circumstance though...schools already have long waitlists by June and it would seem strange not to just pull people off of that.

At second look, they said they just wrapped up their interviews for the application cycle. Unless someone is really a standout or they don't have enough people that they like, it's safe to say they're done interviewing.

And my portal still says "Application is in process"

They also told me my application would have a decision made on by December 10th.

Maybe, but I feel like coordinating an interview day probably requires a bit more forethought and planning, so it's not like they can keep pushing things back and doing things on a whim, you know?

If I remember the story correctly, I think there was a late rush (summertime) to bring in OOS matriculants two years ago. Sounded like UIC was looking to pull in a few more high-paying students for that class. Maybe this is the circumstance being tossed around here?

Perhaps so. UIC, if you're reading this, I'm in-state but I'll pay OOS tuition if you let me in.

Anyone hear anything from GMED yet? I heard they would release decisions today or tomorrow and I haven't heard anything yet.

Does anyone know how UMED will interview people who have not been accepted yet? When do they interview until?

UMed already interviewed people on April 15th, and I believe that included those not yet accepted to the COM.

Wow, you are correct... I thought their app deadline was April not March.. Time flies....

March. All classes were filled by then. Yeah yeah I know the numbers move but to what extent, ya know? Administrative optimism just makes me more pre emptively pessimistic.

I probably saw you at rushs second look day as well

My friend, I feel like you don't entirely understand what it means for the class to be "filled." All the March 15 date means is that the school has to have extended as many offers as there are seats in the class. UIC has a class of roughly 300, which means they issued 300 acceptances by March 15. Obviously, only a portion of those people will actually attend. The same people that get accepted at UIC are likely to also get accepted at Rush, Loyola, SIU, possibly Northwestern, Pritzker, etc. It makes no sense for them to keep interviewing into mid-April if the class is full! They will continue to accept people, probably not at as a great a rate as they did in September, but there is still a very real chance.

For those people still up in the air: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...l-hoping-for-wl-school.1194538/#post-17649900

1) mid to late April, acceptees start putting in final acceptance some WL movement
2) April 30: Final acceptances for all
3) May 1-15. Schools adjust their acceptance list, start sending out WL in earnest
4) May 7-30 (yes overlap). WL students respond
5) June 1-15 consider the second wave of WL so to speak, less than first but the cascade continues.
6) June 7-30. WL students respond. Most WL is over but not all

and I think a large part of people who haven't heard back post interview are likely going to be in a WL position. UIC may go a little longer than that timeline (maybe WL movement into mid july) but I wouldn't bet on it.

So are we thinking there may be some movement after tomorrow due to the committee meeting this Thursday?

I hope so. When I spoke to someone in Admissions they said that we should all learn our status by the end of the month after the committee meeting. Hopefully, tomorrow they let us all know our status!

Does anyone remember if they will email us their decisions or if it comes in the mail? Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Time for me to start stalking the status page lol & calling for a application update. Last time I called they sent a II within 5 minutes of me hanging up. I hope this happens again! Good luck everyone

Let us know if they actually did meet today!

Does anyone know if UMed extended all invitations yesterday?

Called and spoke to someone in the office. There was no meeting today. They are meeting next Thursday. I'm assuming because the multiple acceptance deadline is the 30th and by next Thursday they will have a better idea of how many spots are open. Idk just a guess

So I assume we shouldn't be expecting any changes to our pending decisions 🙁
