2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My status is now "Decision pending". One of the people in admissions at the interview said they would be meeting "towards the end of the month" so I assume they are't meeting this Thursday, but next.

From last year's thread, it looked like the committee meets the second to last Thursday of each month... so the 22nd seems right.

Technically the 3rd Thursday would be day after tomorrow... but yeah I think last year decisions came out the 23rd. Although they have been slower this year with IIs- hopefully that doesn't extend to decisions!

Well, this Thursday is technically the third Thursday; but since there are five in October, I assume that's why they're meeting next week.

I hope the adcom met today because I have until the 25th to get a full refund on a prereq requirement course that I start next Monday, assuming that I will need it for matriculation @_____@

Anyone on here also apply for the RMED program? Waiting for the end of November is killing me. . .would love to commiserate with anyone in the same boat. . .

I was under the impression that you cannot apply for those programs until after an acceptance is received.

No you can apply now, but I don't think they even look at that application until you've been accepted so most people just wait. RMED is kind of different though in that you have to call their office to get more details about applying whereas UMED, GMED, and IMED you can complete online so I'm not entirely sure

The RMED application is online as well. As I understand it, when you apply to RMED, it isn't that they don't look at you until after you are accepted, but instead the RMED program does the admissions process (reviewing applications and interviewing) and then passes their recommendations on to the general admission office. I am not 100% sure, but that is what I was told by some M1 RMED students...

No status change on my application, so I guess the adcom didn't meet yesterday 🙁

Those who are travelling to interview at UIC-Chicago Campus: Where are you staying overnight? I have a few friends at U Chicago but that's not very close to UIC. I haven't heard anything about a student host sysem. Are there any cheap hotels nearby that you've found?

Alternatively, are there any current, female UIC students on SDN who would be willing to host? If so, please PM me.

Thank you very much!

I am an in state student, and my supp application has been submitted 9/4, and status=applicant in progress.
----Does this school do 'silent rejections'? Or after how long do you think that I have no chance?
----Can any IS (stats please) tell me how long it took for their status to change?
----Any IS have experience (with stats please) of the longest they had to wait for an interview invite after that change?

I'm instate, LM of 76. Submitted first week of Aug, took 3 weeks to get to in progress after that due to "letter review" (even though letters were sent in July). Was in progress for about a month and changed to in process in the last week of Sept. I was in process for about 10 days before II.

Has anyone received a Final Decision status who hasn't been offered an ii? OOS in particular?

Submitted 9/26.
Status states, "Applicant in process". Not sure what it was before, but I just remember seeing this status on 10/5. Could've been earlier as well.
I thought it was backwards. Applicant in process = complete then applicant in progress = under review.
I'm OOS and thoroughly confused at this whole crapshoot..

Secondary complete July 22nd, IS, finally switched from applicant is progress to "in process" this morning

Hahah same (complete 7/26)! I can't tell you how many times I've checked the portal for it to finally say "applicant in process" after nearly 3 months.

Maybe they're processing IS and OOS at different timelines? Just trying to figure out why someone (OOS) complete late September would already be "in process" while I (IS) would be "In progress" for what feels like forever. Does everyone get out of "progress" eventually?

+1 for applicant in process after 3 months. IS!!! Good luck to my fellow "in staters" 🙂 and everyone else, but mainly in staters!!!

Today is the day they will be deciding on us! (Presumably) Eeeeekkkk!

I'm going to be checking my stat page all day, even though I know it won't change til tomorrow at the earliest.

The status won't say accept/deny online correct? We have to wait for snail mail?

If this year is like the previous years, there will be a status change on our application portal, which is a good indication of accept/deny. The actual snail mail will tell the exact decision.

Hey guys! I have a question not sure if it is answered already. So I just gave a call to UIC to set up an interview and the lady told me there are no slots available right now and I should keep checking for when anything opens up. I went through my secondaries portal/status and it shows a page of dates and zeros under campuses morning and afternoon interview slots. so i asked her where I can check it and she mentioned its not the secondary portal but a second email with a password and to look under my spam folder... I didn't get a second email with a password. the only one I got is the one titled "UIC COLLEGE OF MEDICINE INTERVIEW" does anyone know what she is talking about?

edit: OHHH wait... that is the page isnt it? the zeros mean that there are no slots?

Zeros mean that the spots are already filled for that day.

thx thx! do you know how often they put up new dates?
It is literally sporadic, but they were able to give me an estimate when I called (i.e. Check the next morning). Sometimes one spot opens up randomly if someone cancels, so it sounds crazy but I just checked the portal like once an hour.

Looks like last year, people started seeing updated statuses around 5:30 to 5:45 in the evening. Hopefully that will happen to us too!

Based on MSAR, if you are in state and have an interview, you should not be worried at all.

What percent of IS get accepted after interview?
According to MSAR, 599 IS interviews with 238 matriculating. That's not total acceptances offered, however.
I read somewhere (maybe an old thread?) that it was like a 70% acceptance rate for IS after interview. But, based on those numbers, it'd be higher, as the general assumption is 2x offers, where x is the number of slots they're trying to fill. So if we assume that somewhere around 275 were offered (which seems reasonable, given that 238 matriculated) then that's at 92% acceptance rate for IS.
