2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I simultaneously love and hate you. Hate, because your status has change, and love because at least we know the committee met yesterday...
I think I was also the first person to report a secondary and the first to report an II, so whatever system they have for ordering things must put me at the top somehow.

Maybe since I interviewed 12th October, my status will be one of the later to update....

Can someone clarify what the additional correspondence looks like? Is it just the phrase 'Additional Correspondence' showing up in the last yellow box on the right? Not really like a 'tab' but just an additional box?

That's correct. I don't believe the "Additional correspondence" tab is added until they have made the final decision (presumably to accept).

I thought I'd calm down once I knew stuff was changing....but my status is still 'Decision pending' and I'm starting to freak out 🙁

Hey all. Fellow in stater here. I was wondering if I could get your guys opinion on Rush vs. UIC. Besides the obvious money difference, which one would you pick and why?

Final decision/additional correspondence here, too. I interviewed 10/12, so @Spriteling, you will probably see something very soon! 🙂

I hope so....I can't handle this waiting. I'm getting absolutely nothing done at work! By the way, where did you interview? Chicago?

Ha, I didn't realise that you'd been there also! Did we talk?

Probably! 🙂 I don't know which person you were or anything, I just saw you post earlier about interviewing in Urbana, so I realized we were the same date/location. I don't usually reveal myself IRL or try to figure out who other posters may be, just because it's nice to be able to make truly anonymous posts on SDN at times. But we had a nice group, and it was small, so I bet we had a nice exchange at some point!

Hope you get some good news soon!!

Okay so I lied, and checked my status again. Still decision pending. At this point, I pretty much have to assume I've been deferred. UIC is pretty much my only shot at med school, so this really sucks. :/

Don't panic yet! This same thing happened to me at another school, everyone was getting their decisions and I hadn't heard anything so I started freaking out that I had been rejected. But it turns out they just hadn't posted my interview date's decisions yet. It's not over till it's over!

Someone who had an interview at the same place I did, on the same date has been updated. So it's not that. :/

Yeah but maybe they're just like going in alphabetical order or something and they haven't gotten to you! It never seems like there's any kind of rhyme or rhythm to these things. Just stay optimistic, no use being upset about something that hasn't even happened yet and might never happen 🙂

From what I gather on last year's thread, they defer on a month-to-month basis. So I know it will be torture to wait another month but you'll be re-evaluated and potentially given an acceptance after the next adcom meeting. It sucks but this is definitely not your only shot! :xf::luck:

What do you think it means if my status is still decision processing? Did they update everyone? Do I have to wait a month?

can you click the additional correspondence tab or does it just say additional correspondence?
No I can't click it, I think they will just send something in the mail? Otherwise people would've been saying accepted by now 😛

No, its not a tab you can click on. On the status page it just says additional correspondence in one of the boxes

So I get how people waitlisted get the "decision pending" status, but I'm curious to know if everyone who was rejected and accepted get the "final decision made/addtnl correspondence". If not, what status do people get if they have been rejected?

Those who get rejected still get the sentence that says a final decision has been made, but they don't get the "Additional Correspondence" phrase that shows up in a box in the upper right next to your interview date

is that true?

it seems that way after looking at previous threads, but I dont think anyone has confirmed it?

Anyways I REALLY hope we get the snail mail by thursday. I would LOVE a reason to cancel the rest of my interviews and save that money to buy myself a laptop.
Same. I guess I'll hold the confetti until the mail gets here

So I just took a look at last year's thread.

Doesn't look like they do post-interview rejections until the end of the season. They just keep deferring you til April or May and then put you on the waitlist or reject. So I think we're looking good! But I wouldn't cancel other interviews just yet, just to be sure.

Link to merch. They have a decent selection for med school stuff!

Sending mail = more traditional and personal way to communicate. UIC is pretty old school, I guess.
