2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I actually felt pretty good about it. It was a lot of people, but everyone was very nice. How did you feel?

I felt pretty good. I was visually nervous at the beginning. They told me to calm down, take a second and have a glass of water. After that, it was smooth sailing. Everyone was very nice and enthusiastic about the program and I believe it is the right fit for me!

Mark Meurer indicated that we would hear of our RMED status by next Mon/Tues. The rest of the forum suggests that the ADCOM will be meeting on the 8th, so we may have formal decisions in two weeks!

Best of luck!!

Of the last 24 hours, 16 have been spent at work. I can't wait to quit this job.

We had baked ziti and steak to put into a sandwich. I always eat light before an interview when lunch is offered, because I don't want to nod off during the interview lol.

Also, I checked my portal - saw that a final decision was made and I have an "additional correspondence" tab. I hope to get a large packet in the mail soon. Fingers crossed!

For those who got a site placement, how long did it take to know between them receiving your deposit and getting a letter? On the portal it says mine was received on 1/13 but I still haven't heard back. Did you have to submit your Hepatitis B and Official Transcripts before hearing back? Thank in advance!

I got my site placement letter after submitting my deposit/agreement/site placement card, and did not submit the Hep B or transcripts yet. Hoping yours arrives soon! :xf:

Hi,
I am having trouble with my portal. Do you know where the transcripts should be sent to? Also, do they specify if you still have to send in transcripts even if you have not taken additional courses than those already verified by AMCAS?

Thank you!

If you're talking about the my.uic.edu portal, mine has been glitchy too, and I know someone else posted recently that it wasn't working for them. So you aren't the only one!

Official transcripts should be sent straight to the Office of Medical College Admissions (the same address that you sent the site placement card and deposit to), and I think you need to send them a finalized copy even if you haven't taken any more classes since AMCAS verification.

Hope this helps! 🙂

In this picture, the basket represents UIC, and the eggs represent my hopes at getting into medical school.

Maybe this was answered, but is there a difference between applicant process vs Applicant in progress or am I thinking way too deeply about this?

Process means you're currently being reviewed.

For those of you accepted, would you mind sharing your stats? I am an instate applicant for the next cycle and this is my number 1 choice

Hey...I would recommend purchasing MSAR. It is cheap and resourceful. The information reported on MSAR will be more representative of matriculating classes, as only a small portion of those admitted actively update their status on SDN.

Good luck with the application process!!

So just for clarification, does the Additional Correspondence tab appear the day after the committee meets? In which case some of us could hear something next Tuesday if they indeed meet on the 8th?

They told us that we should expect no correspondence from them until "lateish February" but it's possible they were just being conservative with that estimate. That would be awesome if we heard next Tuesday!

That would either be the greatest or worst birthday present of my entire life.

Just got an interview for March... So excited yet so apprehensive. Do they even accept people around this time? Or would this more likely be for the waitlist

Personal opinion: I don't think a school with that big a class would waste their time interviewing for the waitlist. Are you IS or OOS?

Anyone hear yet about RMED program? I was told that we would be called either way yesterday or today but I'm still waiting...

Hey...Mark Meurer called me last night and told me I was accepted to the program. He is going to send the accepted applicants to the ADCOM in Chicago for a formal decision. Good luck!

Congratulations! Hopefully I get some good news today..

I am sure you did fine. Just take a deep breath and try not to let the anxiety consume your life!! Update us when you receive the good news tonight.

Also...My program interview invite and my acceptance call both occurred shortly after 4p, so be on the lookout!

Anyone know of any indication that the Chicago campus is nearing capacity? I really really want to be placed there and I'm cautiously optimistic as it seems from this thread that there are still some spots left. If I get Chicago then I can finally relax.

I was accepted to RMED! I got the call last night at like 5:40. Everyone accepted still has to wait for the ADCOM to meet and make a final decision.

Congrats. Question: Does anyone ever get the call they were accepted to RMED and then get rejected by the committee?

Yes...Even though students are admitted to the RMED program, they must be approved by the main ADCOM. The acceptance rate to UIC after being accepted to the RMED program has varied over the years (50%-100%); however, the mean acceptance rate is 75%. Refer to table 2 in the below link published by the faculty of RMED.

Glasser et al. (2008) RMED update: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3740530/

Being admitted to RMED is a conditional acceptance that provides the candidate with the support of the RMED faculty.

So I think this last week sometime I changed from Progress to Applicant in Process. I have already been accepted to MCW, but would really like to go to UIC since it is my in-state school. Does "Process" mean I have been moved to the bottom? :/
