2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats. Does anyone get rejected post interview here at all? And does anyone know when they officially tell you you're on the waitlist?

I'm pretty sure there have been a few post interview rejections on the thread. You still get "Final decision made" but you don't have the additional correspondence tab. Since interviews are going to the end of March, I would assume you won't hear back about the waitlist until after the April adcom meeting. Also, they may still be updating portals. In my month, they were updated into the afternoon!

Also I just want to say don't give up hope. UIC was my only interview (I was offered one other, but had to turn it down), and somehow things worked out. They will for you too. 🙂

That's awesome. I'm so happy for you!

I'm still Decision Pending here, and the status check page is probably done updating for the day

OMG just checked and my status changed. It says a final decision was made on your application. Also, I got the additional correspondence "tab". It's not really a tab, it just says "additional correspondence" on the same line as the interview dates. Is this how its supposed to be????

For those who were accepted, can you please tell me if the "additional correspondence" tab appears on the same line as the interview dates? And if the "final decision" information occurs in the blue box on the bottom? I'm just in disbelief. I want to make sure that's how it was for everyone else who was accepted.

Yep, that's what it looks like.

Also decision pending. Interviewed in February and yeah I am pretty sure they are done updating the portals.

Is the last committee meeting on April 14 or 21? I know about the 3rd Thursday rule, but April 15th is a major deadline for me due to personal reason, and the 14th is four weeks from now. I guess a better question would be: when are the last interview dates?

Given that I'm Decision Pending now: after the April meeting, am I guaranteed to find out whether I'm accepted/waitlisted/rejected?

I'm not sure when the April meeting will be (it should be the 3rd Thursday) but I believe by April/May (the flow chart that's been floating around says May) you will know whether you have been accepted, waitlisted, or rejected. Some applicants in 'Decision Pending' were emailed and notified that they will be held for spring consideration so I am guessing that either in April or May, the adcoms will look at all the applicants who are still in decision pending to make final decisions.

Is there a Facebook page for accepted students? Might have missed this info.

On another note entirely, did anyone receive interviews for the UMed/GMed/etc. programs? Based on past years' threads, I thought it was just after the deadline that those are sent out.
I applied to both UMed and GMed. For UMed I received a confirmation that they received my application. For GMed, nothing. No interviews for either yet, so I don't know if they have been sent out yet for this year.

I'm in the same boat.

Sitting at "Decision Pending" after two ADCOM meetings is really eating away at me. IS, got positive feedback during my interview, hoping to hear something soon, anything...

Preach. One of my interviewers said that my answer to an ethical question was "correct." And I thought that I really clicked with them. I really don't know what to say, maybe I'm just not good at interviewing.

What? No...The interviewer being nice to you to make you feel comfortable isn't indicative of whether or not you did well...

Yeah. I felt the same way in my interview as bananafish94 is saying. I thought I connected but I think in the end the interviewer has their own agenda. Something I have heard from a number of people not sure how true it is though.

Ok ok, can you give more SPECIFIC examples as to what made you feel "connected"? Did she give you her business card personally or something? Did she tell you "good answer"? Any of those is just a gesture and is not correlated with how well you did..It could all be taken as formality. This coming from experience

Yeah, nobody is going to end their interview by saying either "we're going to accept you!" or "you're a terrible applicant and we don't want you here" when they don't have the authority to speak on behalf of UIC in that manner.

And I've learned that while interviews are typically a checkpoint for an otherwise admittable applicant, there can be so many other reasons other than the interview for why applicants were not admitted. The UIC Chicago interview location, at least, were not open file nor by adcom committee members, so any gaping hole or red flags they may have seen in your app would likely not have been asked about by the interviewers.

You're right, the interviewee never really knows how they did. I thought I did well based on my practice and the answers that

I agree. The interviewee's feeling after the interview have no correlation with how they did in the interview. Although I don't think they would invite somebody to an interview in the first place if there were red flags in the application.

I think that it is possible for someone with red flags to be invited to an interview especially if they believe that it can be explained. There are people who interview with low MCAT scores and low science gpa's so I think it depends on the quality of the rest of the application among other factors.

Ok. I just got the final decision made + additional correspondence. I am really excited if it means acceptance it would be my first md. Check your portals because mine was updated this morning. I checked Friday throughout the day but never was updated.

Congrats! I'm still decision pending 🙁

Approximately how long after one's status change in the portal, does the acceptance packet come in the mail?

Congrats! Was the invite via email? Also, is the interview date the same day as second look day?
Yep I got an email and it is the same as second look day. In the email they ask you to pick either the morning block or afternoon block.

Final Decision + additional correspondence!! Interviewed early Feb and been in decision pending limbo ever since

Hey...When did you receive your award letter? Were you SE01 status on your AMCAS? If you don't mind me asking.

Just received my award letter today, after a status change in my portal yesterday. Don't remember what SE01 is but I am not a disadvantaged student. The letter says it's a "College of Medicine Scholarship," which is not listed on their website. Maybe more are coming out!

Is the award letter sent out after an accepted student submits their deposit and acceptance paperwork?

Huh....I wouldn't think that a medical school would provide someone with a scholarship prior to them returning their seat deposit.

I received this status update today: "A final decision was made on your application on 03-21-16. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail." However, there is no correspondence tab on the webpage. Does anyone know if this is conclusive and if so, what the decision likely is?

It doesn't look good; however, there was someone in this thread that had their status change from 'decision pending' or 'decision has been made' and then they received a II the next day.
