2015-2016 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everyone, I called and the nice lady said they're having a tech issue with the portal and that they're working on it now. Give it a couple of hours, then try logging back in, was what she told me to do.

First things first: congratulations to all of you who have been accepted! I think Michigan is a phenomenal place to get your medical/leadership training; filled with opportunities for you to find and/or build on your passions - since my recent acceptance, I've done a lot of research and met with a few med students (perks of living in Michigan!) and this is definitely where I want to spend the next four years.

After tiring through this tedious medical school applications process, there's a few reflection points I would like to make:

1) There are, generally, two types of applicants. There are those who put in their all - starting with the MCAT and ending with the interviews. Throughout the whole process, they are reading about how they can make themselves appeal to their top choices; ways they can stand out of the 6,000+ applications being reviewed. The other type, of course, are those who apply without doing their best, hoping for a spark of luck to come by their way. They are, essentially, "winging it."

Hopefully, everyone in this thread is of the former because if you are then you are going to end up where you fit best. I firmly believe that. Every one of us who put in 100% (some 120%) will go to the med school where they will be most suited and where they can develop as good physicians. It is disappointing to not get selected by your top choice, but again, there's a reason for everything.

2) The whole way through, I thought I was not doing enough. I even felt that my interview went horribly. This comes from my inclination, as is with most pre-meds, to be overly anxious and obsessive about the process. This, of course, is not healthy! Maintain a positive attitude throughout and fight the hurdles that come by. It is better to fail having tried, than to not try at all. Again, keep in mind that what where you end up will be the best for you. Medical school is exciting! For those of you interviewing, 99% of the people who interview at UM get into medical school somewhere. You're all future docs 🙂

3) This is a huge commitment - for those of us who have been accepted, do not waste time. Look for opportunities to excel in medical school and make the most out of the next four years.

I look forward to joining you all in this noble pursuit, especially those of you who will be in my class. Best of luck with the process!

This is my first ever post in SDN. I tried avoiding it during application season because I know that your anxiety will rub off on me 😉 lol

Hope this benefited someone!

How do you know they're closing applications?

I called and asked if an update would even be looked at, and she said the seats are all filled and applications will be shut off this week.

Did any other admits get a call today about Second Look? An M2 left a message on my cell.
Yup! And according to the FB group, they're sending out a link via email tomorrow to register for it!

Just rejected pre-II. Good luck to all still waiting for news!

Also rejected pre-II. Today alone I got this and Hopkins plus confirmation that Yale has extended all IIs, oh well. Hope good news comes soon. Best of luck to everyone!

Also axed. I mean all hopes of an OOS II were dead a couple of months ago anyway lol.

For those wondering about deferred decisioners, somebody asked on Twitter about when they will hear back and they replied: "mid March is our goal"

Rejected pre-II also. I knew this was coming, and it is nice to finally have closure.

After feelings of bitterness, jealousy, and frustration, I am now entering into a stage of peace and acknowledgement that it was just not meant to be for me. I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to go elsewhere for my medical education and experience life outside of Ann Arbor for a little while.

'Til residency may we meet again, UMich! :xf:

Congrats to all those who have earned a seat at this fantastic institution, and good luck to everyone who has been deferred as well.

Rejected as well! At this point it just confirmed what I suspected.

(Nevertheless, GO BIG TEN)

Rejected today too, went to UM for undergrad. LizzyM69.

For those accepted on 2/11 (i.e. video email) have you received an admission letter in the mail yet?

Still total silence here (I know that means rejection, but it sure would have been nice to have been notified).
